Coconut Challenge Explained

What's The 'Coconut Challenge?' The TikTok Trend Explained

Calling the Coconut Challenge on TikTok a "challenge" is a little bit of a stretch, however, it does require a little bit of leg work and enough rizz to land a male partner. If you don't know what it is but saw Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion talking about it recently, this explicit "challenge" involves moving in a way that spells out the letters C-O-C-O-N-U-T.

Although the trend was originally coined "Spell Coconut With Your Waist" four years ago, it's since been renamed and has had a resurgence in viral interest. Let's explain.

What's The 'Coconut Challenge' On TikTok?

As stated, the Coconut Challenge is less of a challenge and more like physical onomatopeia. Basically, the challenge happens when a woman is "on top" of man and spells the word "coconut" with her hips by moving in the shape of each letter, going all the way through C-O-C-O-N-U-T.

Who Created The 'Coconut Challenge?'

At first, the "Coconut Challenge" did not have a proper name and was instead referenced only by the concept of spelling out the word with one's hips. The concept is credited to Twitter user @danielmaven who tweeted on February 14th, 2019, "Writing 'COCONUT ' using your waist is the trick to master women on top!! Thank me later ladies!"

How Did The 'Coconut Challenge' Spread To Cardi B And Megan Thee Stallion?

This month, Cardi B took to TikTok to talk about her friend Megan Thee Stallion who had apparently been doing the Coconut Challenge for her man. The video sparked curiosity from Cardi B's fans, leading to the challenge going viral on TikTok.
