Since last year, a Punjabi couple, known for their successful and viral Instagram business, have been the subject of the so-called Kulhad Pizza Video controversy in which an alleged video of them leaked on the Indian web.

Sehaj Arora and Gurpreet Kaur are a happily married couple from Jalandhar, Punjab. They originally went viral when Instagram user and YouTuber Harsimran Singh (known for his food tourism videos) covered their business in a viral 2022 Reel that received a whopping 4.9 million likes.

Going into 2023, the couple used their clout momentum to successfully launch their own influencer careers. Combined on both their Instagram accounts, they have over 1.8 million followers.


What's 'Kulhad Pizza?'

A "kulhad" is a small clay cup used to drink chai from. "Kulhad pizza" is when pizza is cooked inside of a kulhad, creating a pizza slice that one can eat with a spoon, hot and gooey from baking inside a clay cup. The recipe and format plays on the Indian street food tradition of "pizza cones" which are a novelty (yet insanely popular) fast food item sold across the country.

The Kulhad Pizza couple faced controversy when a video, allegedly showing them having intimate relations in bed, leaked online. Shown in a dark room from the man's perspective, the video caused mass backlash when it first spread in September 2023.

Indian internet users jumped at the opportunity to make memes at the couple's expense. It became a hot-button issue for Indian tabloids which gained criticism from many others who believed that spreading the video was more shameful than what was shown in it.

Where Did The 'Kulhad Pizza' Video Come From?

The video was purportedly first leaked on a Telegram channel in September 2023. From there, it quickly spread to Twitter / X where it racked up millions of views. All of the original posts have been removed from the social media platforms.

Is The 'Kulhad Pizza' Video Real?

Although the video has convinced many, the couple is denying its authenticity. In a tearful since-deleted video posted to his Instagram, Sehaj Arora claimed that the video was AI-generated, likening it to deepfake technology.

Arora also claimed that someone was trying to blackmail him and his wife. He alleged that they received the video in their inbox days before its mainstream leak, paired with threats aimed at their careers. If he's being truthful, it makes the story all the more troubling.
