All the Big News from Nintendo's 2019 E3 Presentation

All the Big News from Nintendo's 2019 E3 Presentation

Another Nintendo E3 presentation goes in the books, and another cycle of post-E3 hype begins. Nintendo has a habit of casually blowing its competition out of the water at these things, generating hype with their Nintendo Direct presentations instead of in-person powerpoints and alleged audience plants. Let's dive right into the big news from today's Direct, shall we?

Banjo-Kazooie and Dragon Quest Characters are Coming to Smash Ultimate

Nintendo appeared to get the expected Smash Ultimate news out of the way early when they led the Direct with the announcement of Dragon Quest characters coming to the roster. This was met with mixed reaction on Twitter. Not everyone was thrilled to see characters from a series mostly popular in Japan enter Smash, especially when other, more globally popular and long-awaited characters had been rumored.

However, Masahiro "Don't Ask Me for Anything Ever Again" Sakurai saved the big news for last when, yes, Banjo Kazooie was finally announced as a Smash Brothers character. This was met with, shall we say, considerably more enthusiasm.

May all Smash fans be at peace. For now.

Breath of the Wild Sequel Is In Development

Nintendo saved the classic E3 "oh, just one more thing" bait-and-switch at the end of the Direct to announce that a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently in development. The two-minute trailer had creepy music and a Lich King-like enemy, and showed Link and Zelda working together, perhaps suggesting that Zelda will be a much more integral part in the follow-up's story. However, while details are obviously scant at the moment, let's take a look at the hype:

Luigi's Mansion 3 Introduces "Gooigi" Mechanic

Luigi's Mansion 3 will take place in a hotel and appears to have retained all the charm that has kept the series as an underdog Nintendo favorite, but fans were quick to joke about a new mechanic to the series: Gooigi. Gooigi is a Luigi doppelganger made of, well, goo that a player will have to utilize to solve certain puzzles in the game, but that's only part of why fans were hyped.

Animal Crossing Beautiful, but Delayed

Animal Crossing fans have been waiting years for a new game, and while Nintendo said they had to delay the release date for Animal Crossing: New Horizons to March of 2020, they did show some gameplay footage that got fans excited.

The Rest

Other notable titles like Fire Emblem: Three Houses, The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, Panzer Dragon, No More Heroes 3, Resident Evil 5 and 6, Link's Awakening all made cameos in the Direct, leading to an overall very exciting presentation. In conclusion, Nintendo Fans right now:

Considering that BotW was intended to be a complete 180 based on criticism from Skyward Sword despite that game also getting mega-bloated review scores… I think it's possible some things will be fixed.

I just hope there's another kingdom. Reuse all the enemies, models, and mechanics you need Nintendo, but please don't reuse maps…
