Weekend Meme Roundup: Home Depot Skeleton, Anime Face Filter And Shark Pog Kicks Off Spooktober
Spooktober is back baby! We got an early taste of it back in August with Daeodon at the Door, but now, it is in full force just as September is coming to a close. This past weekend we had the likes of Shark Pog, Anime face filters, and a giant Home Depot Skeleton as our breakout memes, and with two out of three being horror-themed, it's safe to say that Spooktober is officially here.
Shark Pog
Shark Pog is the continuation of the ever-evolving PogChamp spreading further and further outside of Twitch. This time, an Animoji shark named Bruce says "Shark Pog" before tilting its head to the side to try and make a PogChamp-esque face. Much like Baka Mitai the main form that this meme takes is through short-form video, although it has started to use still images of real sharks for the purpose of showing a Shark Pog. By having the meme be versatile and able to be used without video, it opens itself up to more creative uses, as well as the ability to go meta even faster. So, it remains to be seen just how long Shark Pog will last.
Anime Filter
Anime Filter is the newest in a long list of memes created from transforming images and videos of your face. This is similar to Facemorphs in that they do not swap your face with something else, but merely change it to look like an anime character. The filter was released by Snapchat last week and immediately became a hit. Countless people used the filter to see what they would look like in an anime, and many took it a step further and started to use old historical photos to try and see what older figures of history would look like. The filter was not isolated to only Snapchat either, as people began using it on other platforms, making it their profile pic on sites such as Twitter and millions of other users on TikTok creating videos with filtered faces.

Home Depot Giant Skeleton
The 12 -Foot Tall Home Depot Skeleton is the herald of Spooktober, for he is the giant foretelling us of what is to come. The Home Depot Giant Skeleton first began as a product listing on the Home Depot website, but it wasn't long before people starting buying it and posting images and videos on TikTok and Twitter. It was instantly well-received and became a hot ticket item for anyone with a yard capable of hosting such a beast. As is common with Spooktober memes, this one revolves around Skeletons, and it will be interesting to see what kind of mark this one has on skeleton memes as a whole outside of the Spooktober context.
