Pete Buttigieg Hosts Jimmy Kimmel In Front Of Almost Nobody
The surreality of 2020 continued last night when Pete Buttigieg, former Indiana mayor and Democratic Presidential Candidate, hosted Jimmy Kimmel in front of an empty studio audience.
Many late-night shows have gone without studio audiences this week due to Coronavirus precautions, including The Daily Show, Seth Meyers, and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, but none were as surreal as Jimmy Kimmel, which had long planned for Buttigieg to sub in as a host last night.
Buttigieg tackled recent events, including Sarah Palin's monstrous turn on The Masked Singer and Trump's response to the Coronavirus, and interviewed Patrick Stewart. For many online, the show sparked a tinge of schadenfreude, as many were not fans of Buttigieg during his time as a Presidential candidate.
Pete Buttigieg is not funny and warm, he’s a creep who has financial ties to the app that crashed the Iowa caucus. He repeatedly tried to shut out minority votes and suppress them because he made no inroads. Fuck him and fuck Jimmy Kimmel. #JimmyKimmelLive

I quit the Jimmy kimmel show in 2016 and today I’m canvassing for Bernie in Flint. This week my former coworkers will be writing material for Pete Buttigieg to host because they’re collaborators who care about nothing other than their own comfort. Disgusting

Pete Buttigieg hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live last night because this is part of the natural process of total societal and economic collapse pic.twitter.com/OeAzYmwLnG

Incredible monkey's paw end to the Pete Buttigieg story if he has to host Kimmel to no audience

Others took a more charitable approach to Buttigieg's stint, weird as it may have been.
Wow Mayor Pete #Buttigieg is actually addressing COVID-19 better in an opening monologue on Jimmy Kimmel than the current presidentAnd funny

Pete Buttigieg just hosted Jimmy Kimmel live. 10/10. Knew he’d do well, yet still exceeded expectations. Amazing performance. pic.twitter.com/f9NnelIzUb

So the Pete Kimmel episode is the best thing I've watched for a while. Pete Buttigieg, Patrick Stewart, and LeVar Burton bonding over TNG trivia was everything I needed today.

Critical reviews about Buttigieg's stint were positive as well. With the Democratic Primary well underway and people wondering about where former candidates and Democrats will wind up should a Democrat win the general election, it will be interesting to see if Buttigieg's Kimmel performance translates into a White House position down the line.
