Weekend Meme Roundup: Oversimplified Logos, Chun-Li And Sinnoh Confirmed
This previous weekend was one filled to the brim with gaming-related memes. From Fortnite adding Chun-Li to the game, to one of the longest-running Pokemon memes "Sinnoh Confirmed" becoming a real thing, the internet was filled to the brim with content for making memes. Also unable to escape the eyesight of content creators was Firefox and their Oversimplified Logo, which spawned a slew of new creative memes as well.
Chun-Li
Chun-Li is the ever-popular Street Fighter character known for her high kicks and large thighs. She's been a mainstay in the fighting game community for decades, constantly featured in online content that includes memes. This most recent meme adaptation comes from her inclusion in the game Fortnite, a non-fighting game that includes skins of characters from other parts of pop culture. Part of the reason why she exploded in popularity comes from people making edits of her skin selection screen, either changing the background around or modifying her skin design to be a little more accentuating of her "assets."
Oversimplified Logo
Oversimplified Logo is the fighting back of people against this new post-modern minimalist design overhaul that every company seems to be going through. The general sentiment by the masses is that there was no need for Firefox and other companies to change their logo and that the smaller, minimalist, less detailed designs that have been getting more ingrained in online graphic design are a rabbit hole that they do not want to fully go down. Because of this, many content and meme creators began posting about the oversimplified logo, both supporting and antagonizing it.
Sinnoh Confirmed
Since the very first days of Pokemon game remakes, there was one generation that many people were waiting for, the Diamond and Pearl generation. For many people, these were when Pokemon was at its peak. It was the first time a mainline game was on a Nintendo DS, and the storyline itself was very engaging and even went against previously established lore from previous games. With the trend that after every mainline Pokemon game you would have a remake of a previous generation being released, it was only a matter of time. That time finally came last weekend when Sinnoh Confirmed became a reality. This is something that memes have been about for literal years now, and it's exciting to see them pay off.
