A singing, yellow-eyed cat, who some call Mr. Peebles, has become known as the "Monday left me broken" meme. His creepy gaze and human-like body have captivated meme enjoyers since the beginning of this year.

Although he's all over TikTok, YouTube and Instagram, Mr. Peebles has a mysterious origin, seemingly spawning out of nowhere and into the timelines of many doomscrollers.

To the best of our knowledge, let's explain this trending meme, where it came from and why it's relevant.

What Is The 'Monday Left Me Broken' Song?

For starters, the song that the yellow-eyed cat is singing comes from the late EDM musician Avicii. It's his song "Waiting For Love," which has vocals from the singer Simon Aldred, known for his role in the band Cherry Ghost. The song was originally released in May 2015.

What Is The 'Monday Left Me Broken' Meme?

The meme in question is a simple viral video trend that uses the audio of the aforementioned Avicii song. It also uses an image of a human-like cat wearing a suit with yellow eyes and a piercing gaze. The original meme creator used the app Revive to make the still image of the cat sing the song, starting at the section, "Monday left me broken."

Inherently, the meme played on a history of singing animals made using the Revive app, such as the 'Wake Me Up' Dog.

Where Did The 'Monday Left Me Broken' Meme Come From?

The original "Monday left me broken" meme was uploaded by a TikToker named @beast_warrior in late February of this year. It's currently unknown where both the cat head and the human body were sourced from. In turn, @beast_warrior is the most likely creator of both.

Continuing into this year, the meme has only become more popular, spreading across social media. Other than TikTok, YouTube appears to be the second biggest landing spot for the growing meme trend.
