Ugh, I didn't want to did it. I really didn't. I have a lot of respect for the Kamakura Shogunate, the essential birth of feudal Japanese culture and samurai. Ah well, they'll get what's coming.

@Sacheilia is there anything we have that you would be willing to trade for your military technologies? I must point out that the Madom Dynasty will not stop with us. They've already conquered most of Asia and if we fall you will be next.

@Al Amarja,

You missed giving my Guardsmen legal power in your nation, without it they are powerless to help.

If you want aid in helping to keep your country from folding I recommend you resolve this in your next turn.

On another note it looks as though Al Amarja couldn't be anymore unwelcome in Europe than it currently is. I recommend trying to conform to some social norms, probs a bit to late for that now though.

@Sacheilia

I'll send my scientists over this turn

@Sacheilia: I'm already sending you my mystics on dealing with the giant Woolie Hole. So I do expect you to keep to your word about overlooking on the situation on Al Amarja. Which speaking of mass murder that situation is finally going to be resolved.

@Kalos: It's obvious here that Al Amarja doesn't belong in Europe so how about we make a deal. Your people help ship my people out of Europe and into either Africa or the Mediterranean and you can take some of the former lands of Al Amarja. Is this deal good to you?

Also sorry for the double post.

Very, very busy today. May be mistakes, if so, point them out so I can quickly delete the the turn and cry to myself for being a failure.

Turn 25, 1440 AD

Map of the World

Events:

- Recent studies have shown that magic isn't real. The economy of the world sees a slight, slight drop, as magicians and witches everywhere are laid-off.

-Average Peasant Class, Average Working Class, Small Economic Elite
Technology: Superior Supernatural Physics, Definitive Printing, Superior Metallurgy, Superior Archery, Superior Armor, Superior Infrastructure, Superior Agriculture, Primitive Medicine, Superior Weapons, Basic Engines

- An Amarjan scientist develops the world's first Steam Engine, a device capable of powering heavy machinery on a practical level.
- Many wake up one morning to find the streets filled with the corpses of Guardians and Cabalmen. Some say it was a mass suicide, others claim it was Holy Retribution from above.
- With the loss of the Hegemony binding the nation together, a Queen Regent takes up a throne, and abolishes laws against Christianity. Foreign powers support and recognize her rule, seeing it as a step away from foul pagan ways. Additionally, the loss of the Cabals breaks orthodoxy among the faiths.
- Further activities are halted by a sudden, brutal incursion by Kalos, which reaches into the heart of the nation, setting siege to the capital.

- Kalos forces invade and occupy central Amarja, setting siege to the capital of the new Monarchy, meeting little resistance on the way.
- The Hegemony cannot be sentenced to anything. They are already dead.
- The Knights of St. Shalour are forced to delay their mission to the west, as they seem to have burned nearly every spare commercial ship in the docks. The ones remaining are struggling to keep commerce at its current level.
- Thrace and The Swiss Dutchy refuse to partake in the wars of Kalos and Amarja, as they are allies to neither, and respect the sovereignty of the Amarjan Regent.
- More sophisticated Cannons include the use of various shots and a standard caliber, providing devastation artillery for the forces on land and at sea.

- The Order develops the worlds's third steam engine, providing the Knights with a device capable of driving heavy machinery with comparable ease.
- Knights rally and assault the lands of Arstotzka, skipping around the wall completely and driving into the western heartlands of the nation.
- An expedition lands in the far west, settling a new continent in the name of The Knights.
- Crude guns are adopted by the Order. One might see this as very much ironic. Those people are not correct in their thinking.
- The price to pay for kidnapping is raised to a new high; death. Trafficking in the vassal lands of The Order lessens, as well as those kidnappings of… another nature.
- The Hochmeister of The Knights Authoria declares a new quest, this one for the Spear of Odin, Gungnir. Very few pick up the duty, as the last one… it didn't go so well. In fact, the phrase "chasing the spear" emerges to refer to those looking evade an inglorious death.

- Continued investigations into The Hole don't find much. It's a massive hole with veins of metal matching the sample. Of note, however, is that garrisons in the Castle have reported hearing unpleasant chattering noises…
- Spies [REDACTED] the [REDACTED]. It seems [REDACTED]. No but seriously, the Madomi in the north fight using extensive numbers of Skirmishing Horse Archers, while the Rose fight in a similar manner, albeit with less advanced methods and means.
- There seems to be no "Anti-Invasion Tactics". The closest thing seems to be regular old defensive drills.
- A campaign "encouraging" citizens to join the military begins. More efficient however is the good old "Join this military convoy you filthy fucking peasant before I flog you in front of your neighbor, shaming you even as he takes over your family and ravishes your wife in the pitiful mud shack you pathetic worms refer to as a home". Ah, Democracy.

- Interesting Mechanical devices are created, geared devices capable of calculating the positions of the planets and stars to a very fine degree on any given date. While interesting, these devices don't have a very special function, and treated as glorified sextants.

- Cattonians invent their own form of concrete. Well, it's regular concrete, but it still makes for great walls.
- An invasion of Arstotzka sees Cattonian forces set siege to two Arstotzkan cities in the east, with no major casualties on either side. Alongside forces from the Knights Authoria, many central Arstotzkan forces are displaced by the incursion.
- Inquiries by Cattonia regarding the battles between Kaldrvan and its enemies leads to the Kalrdvan people providing a printed version of their famed tapestry

- The Madom create the worlds second steam powered engine, a device capable of driving heavy machinery more efficiently than a giant wheel of slaves.
- A colonization effort to reach areas near India fail, as the lightly guarded flotilla is ambushed and torn apart by Malaysian Pirates.
- Rose Armies from the West begin to slow the advance of forces in the area, but have yet to push the line back, while western Roses have set siege to a northern city just outside the border. Additionally, locals in the East of the Kingdom have begun burning their farms and giving opium to troops, causing additional problems that have slowed the advance.
- As central asia comes under the rule of the Madom, some unsettling news reaches the Emperor's Court; Khans in the Western territories are petitioning for independence from the Dynasty, and have already proposed their claims; the region from the Caspian, to the mountains far east of the Aral.

- Rose peasants and soldiers begin to burn their fields and distribute opium to the warriors of the Khans. While it doesn't save the lands already taken, it does slow the advance of the Horde significantly.
- Assets are sent east to counter Madomi forces, but are unable to hold out in a slugging match against the Horde. Troops south are able to set siege to a Turk city, however, meeting little resistance.
- New assets are raised from the peasantry, mainly men, but also women as the situation demands.

Those few humans who have been left among such beasts have been reduced to slaves of the lowest caliber, only to operate whatever machine or tool the mighty pincer cannot conquer.
- With humans being the great minority of the Akash, southern Warcrab nests have come to follow the Akash Alpha in its endeavors.
- The Alpha of the Akash has gleamed a knowledge of their Genes that is nothing short of instinctual, and the Hybrid people are soon more alien than monster in their design.
- Pitiful boats are abandoned. The Akash now swim to their targets, the first of which is to colonize what is now known as "Biggest Dong".

- Mines are chartered in the mountains of Otak. Why, I have no idea. This does nothing whatsoever. It's not like people don't do business unless told to. Either way, the veins of copper and tin that Otak has are under exploitation.

- A group of soldiers dedicated to asymmetric warfare is founded, mostly trained in a manner to abuse the pig-headed sense of honor among nobles and those of significance. They are called "Neenjuhs".
- A message is sent to the Shogunate, once again proposing the terms of Alliance to the nation, this time of threat of death. The Shogun and his Diamyo respond "あなたをファック。".
- Forces are dispatched to the border to construct some rudimentary fortifications. While obviously aware, the Kamakura Clans do not respond with any military force.
- Additional Naval assets are raised in the name of the King, expanding the Collectives' fleet.

@Kalos: Seeing as the Hegemony is now gone would you kindly leave me capital in peace or do you want our queens to have a cup of tea together? But since making guests leave empty handed is rude in Al Amarja I'll give you the heads of the cabalmen as a trade for free. Does this sound fair to you?

Crow, I don’t know what the hell you’re doing, but if you ever pull a stunt like that again, I will personally take you out of the game.

I didn’t expect such a quick heel-face-turn from your nation, so I’m taking out my occupying force. I will also be suspending trade for a couple of turns, so I suggest you go to our neighbors for support in the meantime.

Yeah even I will admit that what I did was horrible idea that will be placed on to my regret list. But right now I don't want to think negatively. Right now the dawn of a new age is shining on Al Amarja and I'm going to try to enjoy every last moment of this new age. Plus isn't everyday that one can save themselves after doing a major fuckup like that. Also don't worry about event like that happening again in Al Amarja, the first time will be the last time. Also I have no hard feelings on the trade suspension.

It looks as though I made one too many remarks about the Jewery of my neighbour and have thus managed to incur the almighty wrath of the hebe. I was however expecting an attack from Cattonia at some point, it came to little surprise to say the least.

On the other hand I wasn't expecting a invasion from Knights Authoria I though the relations we shared were above neutral. This makes Arstotzka sad.

I can't help but feel as though my downfall is an inevitability at this point, some predetermined fate shit.

@Authoria & Cattonia,

Arstotzka didn't want a war nor do we understand what it was exactly that warranted this random invasion to begin with, a faceless attack from the blue is confusing to us.

Is diplomacy an option here?

Question: Does magic not existing mean that there are no spooky scary skeletons at the bottom of The Hole, or is that still within the realm of possibility?

I personally would like to think it's the latter but Cale is the one to decide that since he runs the show. I will admit that I am a bit sadden by the departure of magic but I do understand that the reason he took it out was the fact that the the complications of measuring that would be complete hell for the game. Oh well, the steam engine can me a chance to conquer another technological avenue that I have my sights set on since the ability to research technology first presented itself. But I will say that I have this foolish hope, and I know it's foolish here, that somehow either in the last turn or near the last turn the magic will come back.

Entities regarding The Hole were never magical in nature.

I’m gonna guess that they are alien beings from parallel universes either trapped in the hole or maybe they come to our reality through the hole. And I'm going straight into lovecraftian horror again.

- A strange new device is displayed: a massive wooden cart, with wheels that are spun by the force of an engine, rather than by animals. The first prototype is set upon rails, and is capable of hauling great loads with great haste.
- New roads are made, but most people stick to the old ones, being firmly paved and more trusted.
- New houses are built. Make sense, most people would prefer not to be homeless.
- A national bank is chartered, and trade is established with neighbors, bringing the economy higher than it was before the war.
- Military service is made mandatory for… a week. An overwhelming majority choose to opt out of continuing when their "tour of duty" is finished, but some are "convinced" to stick around.

- Basic Firearms are gifted by Cattonia
- Kalos forces move out of Al Amarja, and move straight to Arstotzka, meeting little resistance as forces are occupied north.
- It is ultimately decided that it would be cheaper to conscript and equip peasants than hire mercenaries, and so it happens.
- Re-compensation of the Commercial Fleets of Kalos is made, and the Knights are able to make their journey west. However, in a shocking turn of events, the Knights rebel against the Queen, and settle another, much larger island, quickly enslaving the native populace and attacking the colony of Carcosa. On another note, the conspicuous kidnappings that have plagued Europe for so long have quite suddenly ceased…

- The Arquebus is adopted by Sachielia, a firearm that is more practical than those preceding it.

- Forces sallying forth from the East Castle meet a Cattonian army in their attempt to sweep the border, resulting in several pitched battles that deal extensive casualties to both sides.
- Troops are sent from the north and south to cut-off the invasion from the Knights Authoria. The northern-most army sees success, but the southern troops are overwhelmed and forced to retreat.
- Huge amounts of estates and businesses are nationalized, leading to a situation in which the state controls nearly all production and distributes it as it desires.

- Further attacks are slowed in the south as significant Arstotzkan forces sally to meet the forces on the field. Several pitched battles result in significant casualties on both sides. Progress in the north proceeds, however.
- Cattonians innovate the use of the Water Wheel to move machinery about. Neat.

- Scientists have come to understand the nature of lighting as events of atmospheric tension creating a flow of energy, but have no real clue as to how they could possibly recreate that energy.

- Many wealthy merchants begin to adopt the steam engine to drive great factories, capable of producing less ocmplex goods with stunning efficiency. This revolution results in the elimination of Craftsmen in many industries, replacing them with a "Middle Class" of sorts, who can now afford something a bit more than just surviving.
- Many scholars are sent around the known world to gleam a greater understanding of Government as an entity, and learn what single government can serve the Dynasty's needs. They find that a Republic, if well maintained, satisfies many desires, but is all to easily corrupted, while an Autocrat cannot be fair to all peoples, he certainly does not strangle himself under excessive Buearacracy.
- Fire Lances are replaced with Matchlock Firearms, far more practical and capable of delivering horrific volleys to the enemy.
- The Imperial Army is brought in to work in tandem the Turks in the North, but prove to perform much more admirably against the enemy, and begin to deal horrific casualties to the Roses with their guns and bombs.
- As the Army moves north, a grand highway system, larger than any that precedes it, is constructed, raising traffic between the north and south, as well as giving the Army an extremely efficient route with which to ferry troops and supplies.
- Khans are brought to the court to discuss their demands of independence with the Emperor and his Court. The Turko-Mongol representatives list their grievances, claiming a cultural issue in which many are unhappy to serve a ruler they will never see, in an opulent palace more than a thousand kilometers away. Furthermore, the tantamount replacement of the Horde with the Imperial Army in the north has convinced the Khans that they are not trusted or relied upon, even as they die for the Dynasty, and are tempted to take offers by The Queen of Roses. Additionally, they are upset by the banning of opium by Soldiers.

- The Madomi City is burned when a threat by Rose forces goes awry: reinforcements from the Dynasty push back the incursion, and Rose troops set flames inside the city in spite, burning the settlement.
- Guerrillas in the east continue to slow Madomi forces, but only ever so slightly: The Imperial Army has arrived, and proves much more formidable with devastating weaponry almost built to counter the Horsemen of the Kingdom.
- Further attempts to smuggle opium into the Dynasty are made nil, as a new law regarding its military causes troops to be much less accommodating to its presence.

I cant help but notice that for the longest time, there's this city between Sachielia and Roses Madomi that nobody has ever, ever touched.

Not even the Khans dare go for it. Everyone just builds around it like it has the plague

Is there something about that city? Why can nobody claim it? Is it haunted?

The Madom Emperor is going to sign a constitution reforming the government of China as a republic. It has become clear to me that to advance in this world a democratic style of leadership must be adopted. Along with the signing of this historic document, the new nation of Madomistan will be released from our borders. Whether Madomistan wishes to coninue the war with the Monarchy of Roses is their own business, but for the time being I will support their decisions and come to their aid if Madomistan's territorial integrity is ever threatened. The following territories are being ceded to Madomistan:

MAN, WOMAN, CHILD, YOU ARE ALL SOLDIERS OF THE STATE NOW!

The foreign enemy do not wish to take our lands, they do not want to destroy our government or take our knowledge….they are simply driven by the vile desire to exterminate us all. It is your responsibility to stop them, no matter the cost. There will be no mercy when they march upon your homes, take up arms now.

We won't surrender, flee, or submit.
We will fight and we won't stop.

Glorious glory to glorious Arstotzka.

Whether Madomistan wishes to coninue the war with the Monarchy of Roses is their own business, but for the time being I will support their decisions and come to their aid if Madomistan's territorial integrity is ever threatened. The following territories are being ceded to Madomistan:

Are you still at war with me though?

I have asked in my turn to end the war, but whether or not Madomistan actually does is up to you and Cale.

Map of the World

Events:

- As enemies of the State close in, Arstotzka recruits every being with at least one leg and one hand to fight the enemy. While successful at first, the lack of harvests and imports leads to mass starvation. Men and women will ultimately follow their stomachs before their hearts and minds, and so desertion begins to spin wildly out of control. All that remains of Arstotzka is burned, salted fields, and so many Ideology books, of which new copies mysteriously appear by the day… Laika has been defeated.

- Amarjans adopt the use of Concrete. For uses. Concrete uses.
- Sexist Public fountains are made for the public. For uses. Fountain uses.
- Engineers tackle the problem of making the steam vehicle smaller. For uses. Vehicle uses. Though they would rather work on this new "Train" thing.
- Men are not meant to fly, so says the average man. But engineers say it will be possible. Kites the size of buildings do not seem to work, and this steam engine just doesn't cut it for something that needs to have a great weight to power ratio.

- Kalos suffers severe casualties in dealing with the remnants of Arstotzkan forces.
- A large portion of the Navy sails west to wage war against the Knights of Ambrosius, because there is no Ambrosia. However, after hearing that southern routes were no longer death-traps, the fleet travels near Akash, and comes under attack by Warcrabs in the area. The fleet is forced to turn back to avoid extensive casualties, and decides to stick with northern routes exclusively.
- Kaldrvan is unwilling to allow military ships to make port in their harbors, and deny requests to make staging areas for further attacks.
- Printing is improved thanks to the new Steam Engines from Amarja, which allow for articles to be printed with a speed nothing short of miraculous.

- More peasants are drafted into The Order. Good thing because many knights die in the conflict with Arstotzka.
- The Matchlock arm is adopted by The Knights Authoria. Many Knights claim that the weapon unnerves them, for some inexplicable reason.
- Someone breeds a wolf and a bear together. Bealf. Bealves. It quickly runs into the wild before inspiring scientists to look into the nature inheritance.
- Imports come in from the colony, such strange goods as "cocoa" and "peanuts".

- Sachielian researchers progress their understanding of Physics, as well as develop the steam engine.
- Companies are sent to the Kingdom to assist the Roses, but are quickly overwhelmed by the Hediyen Horde, and experience a high casualty rate.
- There's a navy now. It's up north. You can't see it but it's up there trust me. I think.
- The Hole is now held under constant surveillance, with guards stationed at all hours of the day and night. Nothing much happens to threaten their post, but some do report seeing "things" at night. The description of "thing" is vague however.

- Before ultimately crumbling, the Arstotzkan military deals a harsh blow to Cattonian forces from their fortress in the south.
- The Steam Engine is adopted by Cattonia, spelling the potential for great things to happen. GREAT THINGS.
- Explosives are made into portable bombs, referred to as "Grenades". Large Corps. of these "Grenadiers" are founded.

- Attempts to expand upon the colony are met with failure, entirely on the fault of the Crab-horrors of Akash, which attack and enslave the populace of the Colony, as well as deny commercial ships access beyond the Strait of Gibraltar. This also makes communing with natives very difficult.
- The Steam Engine is adopted to drive ships and looms, which sparks something of an industrial revolution in Foznia, creating a stable "Middle Class" out of the working populace, as well as making production more efficient than ever.

- The Steam Engine is utilized to propel boats, using driven paddle-wheels instead of oars or sails, and proves much more efficient in calmer waters.
- The Emperor steps down from his Divine position into one more… mundane. The Madomi bring sweeping changes to the country, introducing a Parliament and Supreme Court, as well as the Executive that is the Emperor. Such is an extreme change to the region, and as such, most representatives are men of wealth, and judges tend to be well-known Buddhists.
- Khans and Khagans are granted their independence, and a large portion of Central Asia, officially referred to as "Madomistan" is created. However, the Turko-Mongols migrating into the region have come to call it "Hediye". Appeased by this decision, friendly relations are maintained with the Lords there, and while they decide to continue the war with the Roses, they require no aid from China.
- A Public education system centered around the bettered Working Class provides early access eduction by the state, and soon enough basic math and literacy becomes the norm, while advanced subjects are expanded.

- The Hediyens reject offers of peace, and as military movements have stopped, they swarm over the nation, taking many lands hostage. The Khagans on the fringes of the kingdom urge the Princess to flee with them and leave the peasants.
- Electroplating using crude batteries is found to be… interesting, but not altogether that useful, being a highly inefficient and time-consuming process.
- Apothecaries decide to turn from opium to finding herbs and drugs that help people… and not just when they're jonesin'.

- Attacks are made against the Foznian Colony in what is now known as "South America". The small coastal town easily crumples under the monstrous attack, and further incursion is prevented through the sinking of commercial vessels from the Foznian mainland. A large number of slaves are brought in.
- The largest Crab-Isle of Banihel joins the Akash, drawn in by the violence, and sets itself upon a large military convoy from Kalos.
- The Alpha's understanding of Genes has grown to the point that it can utilize universal pheromones to communicate with any living being. That's really not genetic at all but it still happened.
- Hatchlings are given lessons on how to keep hydrated when water is not around. Unfortunately being stupid animals they know only to carry around satchels of water, which for a campaign, is not practical.

- The final offer for annexation is met with silence. As such, the Collective begins to destroy the castle, only to find that it is entirely empty, even the slaves that should be there always are gone. The Shogun rides in from the south, with him the bulk of Japanese forces, and boxes in the Collectives Army, while Japanese ships force the Fleet to stay docked, preventing an escape, and dealing a great blow to the Collectives' forces.

Well Laika's gone, what's everyone got to say about that?

Ultimately he was a potential threat and not to be trusted. While it was successful for a while Arstotzka it was not enough to keep itself around, it had an aggressive stance and chose the wrong allies (and backstabbed them).

gg, bro.

Oh, a quick question. My technology states agriculture and explosives. Does this mean I have absolute no knowledge of other technologies, say archery or medicine?

Everyone knows Archery. But we all had to research medicine.
