@Fridge Logic & Richter,

This situation requires a compromise because right now all I'm seeing are two wealthy-ish nations faffing over Baltic Sea access.

On one side you have aggressive expansionism by the Kalosi, then you have a point-blank stubbornness from Moklaezia, this type of shit is just so textbook for starting a war it's almost funny.

Arstotzka does not wish for war, nor does it want friction between nations and grudges. The "Theocracy" suggests that you both come up with something you can mutually agree upon and move on. As a matter of fact I believe giving the Kalosi a bit of land on the sea and access to it as an okay idea, as long as it doesn't cut off Al Amarja from the other alliance nations.

On another note, Richter you should be beginning to worry about Vitalian, he has already threatened Al Amarja and due to the treaties you are compelled to assist him. You should wrap up this issue with the Kalosi and turn your attention South as quick as you can.

your ways are lovely, but don’t worry, we are just going to seberia

Follow Syndic everywhere he goes, because that would be hilarious!

@Shabbs

I’ll ally with the Anatolians.

There wont be much point in that if they're gonna be in Siberia and you have no connection to them. I'd worry more about your relations with your direct neighbors who are boxing you in

But do it anyway and get your turn in because you're about to be booted from the game you tried so badly to be in. If that happened that would also be hilarious!

Given that the anatolians are my closest neighbors, it'd be a good idea to ally with them.
Plus, we'll expand our empire by some more.

Turn 9, 770 AD

Map of the World

Events:

- The Norsemen begin an extensive series of exploration and expeditions, known as vikings. Soon the term becomes synonymous with the people, however, as raids by the men of the north become common throughout Europe. Though extremely quick and dangerous, most raids show little sign of conquest in mind, and it is worth noting that Norsemen employed or Norse trading partners still remain; they are separate from these private ventures.

- Vitalian's Realm hosts the first "Crusade"; together with the Byzantines, they begin a slow, steady march into the East, intent on breaking the infidels. Christians of all denominations are invited to join.

Dr. Robotnik and Schabbs have been booted for inactivity

- The Theocracy is reorganized, with land-owning Clerics now paying homage to the King, known as the Lord of Sunlight (alternatives include Flame and Cinder however).
- Propaganda, more or less rude drawings of the Laeufe, is spread around. As loyal as they are, peasants aren't really that interested in foreigners.
- Those showing a degree of education are exempted from conscription, but are forced into devising strategies and tactics for the military. Other than introducing archaic concepts such as the Phalanx, they aren't much help.
- An attack is led on the Laeufe, oddly enough directed through Arstotzkan territory. Border patrols fend off the idea, lacking any sort of prompt to do otherwise. Relations are warm enough to prevent any sort of kerfuffle, however, and the attack resumes through less "owned" territory.
- Peasants are asked to "donate" to the war efforts. Being naturally poor, they have to be shaken down for a coin or two.
- A census is taken, to the extent the Theocracy is capable; A population of 150-210,000, with ~30,000 involved full-time or part-time in the state Militias.

- Secret Amarjan Cabals secretly pay off Vitalian's Realm with secret money and secret statues made of a secret metal. It's iron but that's a secret shhhhh.
- Additional defenses are raised on the Vitalian border; trenches, watchtowers, things that would make an invasion a more unpleasant affair.
- Ambitious new ideas in weaponry and armor have to settle for much less; throwing axes instead of knives, and plate armor being utterly impossible.
- Militias raise a new standard, by which members are taught to read and write. The benefits are innumerable. The [REDACTED] also learn to [REDACTED], using their own [REDACTED].

- Swedes are given their final salary and released from service.
- Camps are established, as a significant portion of Kalos forces remain in newly occupied lands.
- Infiltrators don't even need to pass the border to see the Eggmen are weak and disorganized, unsettled and poor.
- Viking raids to the north see trade reduced, but not stopped, as well as refugees heading south into new lands to escape the unpredictable berserkers.

- A tome of Artotzkan ideology is written, and copied to a few choice military leaders. Such contents include the concepts of gods and nation being one and the same, and of course, how glorious Arstotzka is.
- Arstotzkan Militias adopt the pike as their weapon of choice, meaning most forces now consist of Pike Squares or Spear-Walls.
- Someone drops iron into the state mint on purpose for some reason. Shined and made in number, they are still but iron, and thus, nigh worthless in trade.
- The "Theocracy" begins to subsidize apprenticeships, giving a break on tax to those who have an apprentice, and a small break on those who are apprentices. As such, specialty workers and craftsmen grow in number.

- A constitution is established, contracting rights between the people and the duties of their representatives.
- A monthly almanac is proposed, but the idea is absurd: to make but one book takes months of work. Making thousands a month is impossible, and surely, always will be.

- A trade embargo is established with Vitalian's Realm. Neither side is really that much worse for wear.
- The Canal is completed, and now the Dniester is a wide, relatively smooth path into the Black Sea.
- A large fortification is constructed in the Ural, one of the first Castles. The walled beast sits along the higher ridges, and proves an impressive sight, both practically and aesthetically.
- Prospectors find nothing of unusual worth to the north, common metals and minerals, as it were.
- Sailors and rowers are now required to take a course of combat training, thus making their roles two-fold; as sailors and marines.

- Settlers are set into the fertile regions of the Mongolian Steppe, where they set up as semi-nomadic herdsmen and ranchers.
- Diplomats are sent out in many directions. The Khanate establishes contact with those called "Tibetans" as well as "men of the Tang".
- The needs of managing an blooming empire are met by immigrants of neighboring nations, mainly Islamic Philosophers and Eunuchs, who assist in establishing a structured government, as well as a bit of conversion to the faith of the Middle East.

WHAT?! this a disgrace, Arstotzka refuses to be linked with filthy Kolechian scum, they are terrorists and spies, nothing more.

Arstotzka votes to have the Kolechians removed from the alliance. Deny and Detain, Deny and Detain.

Arstotzka is to launch its attack on the Leufe Leaufe Loaf's next turn, do not worry

@Arstotzka and Kolechia:

Al Amarja wishes to stay neutral on your eventual war against each other, we already have the Vitalians to deal with plus we're already beginning expansion on our nation by absorbing the Eggmen to Al Amarja. Soon poor Eggmen will know the glory, freedom, and opportunities presented them from the motherland.

I just recently completed a course about China and its relations with central Asia, so I'm feeling that things could go very well for Madom. It is partially why I moved this far east. Also, a message for Kolechia: what are you doing up there its cold and dry and dark why are you doing this get down from there you'll freeze your toes off you clowns.

After the Lauefe campaign is finished the Autons will probably expand North so you eastern guys don't have to worry.

Also trade will be available for all who are willing and the potential annexed lands will make the routes shorter.

Nah, you'll just be given a culture depending on where you choose. The opposite situation, due to Europe being somewhat cramped.

I don't really care which color you give me.

Turn 10, 7900 AD

Map of the World

Events:

- Norsemen, dissuaded from continuing efforts in continental Europe, begin to swarm the Mediterranean, causing much grief for those along the coast, and reach as far as Moklaezia. There is also rumor of expeditions going into the far west, where they probably fell off the edge of the earth.

- The Crusade proves to be one of the bloodiest efforts in human history, as nearly six hundred thousand deaths occur in the first few years alone, with bodies from all across the known world stacked together: Pict Mercenaries atop Indian Slaves, Varangians beside Ethiopians. No side has made any leaping progress.

- Militia members are now required to take lessons in literacy and numbers, promoting education among the active classes.

- The Amarjans begin a campaign to seize the land of the Eggmen, probably for want of elbow room. Leaders and warbands are defeated, but the civilians are largely left to their own devices. Many come from north, where Kalos treatment of loyalists is harsh, in a word.
- The Crossbow is adopted by Al Amarjan forces. It is comparatively clunky to the ordinary bow, but doesn't require a lifetime of practice to use.
- Extensive aquaducts are constructed throughout the region, both sending water to places they're needed, and taking waste from where it is unwanted, usually from the wealthy to the poor.
- Astrology is taken up by the learned of Amarja, star maps and horoscopes, neither terribly accurate, are yet useful in their own way.

- Active naval patrols slow down raids by the Vikings, and soon they end, as more profitable, less hazardous targets are found.
- Invasion of the Eggmen begins, and seemingly ends, as Kalos has little trouble sweeping through the area, that is, until they encounter Frankish and Amarjan forces, at which point Kalos troops halt.
- Such brutality to Eggmen refusing to betray their leaders means many flee to the south, where Amarjan practices are much less… hostile, as well as to the Franks.
- New decree by the court declares that women are now permitted to be land-owners. Landowning has long brought the unspoken right of opinion, such is that a woman's say is now worth something. HA HA HA HA HA ha ha ha. Heh.
- Additional fortifications are put along the Moklaezian border. None so impressive as the Ural Castle, due to funding, but still make invasion that much less appealing.
- The Mountains are prospected, and soon veins of coal are iron are uncovered and exploited.

- Each Provence is also assigned its own Military leader. Interestingly enough, this leader tends to be elected more often than not in each province, and these leaders promote the separation of the military machine into its army and civil guard.
- Colleges are established, as means for retired men and women to "Study"… which in reality amounts to middle-aged people getting drunk and doing not a lot of productive things.
- Interconnecting roads are constructed between Sachielia and Maldania, making passage between the two seamless.

- Alternative classes are offered in schools for boys of pubescence, with a focus on military service. The novel idea of training for an assured salary sees many a family send their child to such academies. They still learn to read, however.
- A museum is established in the Cattonian capital, mainly outlining the history of the state, as well as what's known of the filthy barbarians Cattonia has freed from existing.
- The Army begins a campaign against the Magyars, breaking the siege and marching into their territory. Resistance is light at first, though it firms up the deeper Cattonian troops go.

- Many a Laeufe refugee come to Moklaezia, and settle in the north. By this time no one really remembers that the two are from the same stock, so no hard feelings are present.
- Moklaezian forces enter the Crusade, in a manner of speaking. Forces speed across the north of the Caspian, waging war against the largely Muslim Voltagenites, as well as converting many smaller settlements at sword-point. Such efforts invite a proposed alliance from the Realm and Byzantines.
- Monastaries are constructed in number, inviting the growth of non-secular knowledge and the Monastic lifestyle among Moklaezian clergy.

- Diplomats to China bring tribute and offers of trade. The Tang Emperor is pleased by the developments, and soon trade between the two powers is apparent.
- The Hoard turns west to bring the remaining Turks under the Khan's thumb. Resistance is much more significant, as the Western Turks have consolidated themselves after recent events.
- The Khan converts to Islam, and through his encouragement, many of his advisers do as well. The usual Mongol tolerance, as well as that lectured in the Qur'an, means that the people are not forced to any conversion or tax as a result.
- Secure routs through central Asia bring about a much more secure Silk Road. Though trade into the west is much strangled by Wars there, it still proves profitable, and a magnet for bandits. Little quarter is given, and a good chunk of Madom forces are constantly fending off brigands with force and threat of extreme punishment.

This is going to be the last Turn in this "Age", with that in mind, pull out whatever stops you had in mind.

As an addition, the next Age will start in 1100 AD, and thanks to the efforts of Players to preserve secular knowledge, you will be able to perform research, which will be an added statistic.
Players will all start with roughly the same level of knowledge, and can have up to two technological innovations being developed at any given time. The speed at which these are completed depends on how complicated the project is and and the economic status of the nation.

If you don't know how far mankind was in 1100 AD, you should probably look it up.

@Alliance,

With technologies finally coming into play we should coordinate our research efforts with one another, after all we are to share our discovereies. I recommend collaborating so that we all know what exactly to research.

Also I can't help but feel like I'm becoming trapped

It can. By turn 20 we'll reach the "Industrial Age" per se, which will be the final leap. Assuming people are still playing by then, we'll be there.

So are you all ready for the next age? Cause I'm hoping that this new age will be a renascence instead of a coming great depression that some (small) part of my mind is worrying about.
