I've loved this stuff since it started.

is machinima a meme? machinima is pretty widescale on youtube. and it has some sort of a guideline despite the wide range. it is always footage of a video game with commentary of what the characters are saying; creating a story.

anyways. i like the "hard justice" machinima. it is quite funny while still maintaining a serious base.

I'd say machinima's every bit as much of a meme as youtube poop, and that's been confirmed.

I would disagree that machnima is every bit as much of a meme as Youtube Poop.
Personally, I'm not really a fan of Youtube Poop, but I give it credit for being strong on remixes.

I'm really torn on whether or not machinima should be considered a meme.

Pros
Machinima is ripe with spoofs and parody.

Cons
Machinima often appears as simple fanfiction.

I would say that "Machnima Parodies" might make a good entry. But not all Machinima strikes me as memetic.

So even though I'm on the fence about "Machinima as a meme" I've got an open mind about it.

Sidenote: about two years ago some friends and I were toying around with the idea of using Garry's Mod to create a feature-length movie that satirized the printing company we worked at. We created a lot of custom skins and wrote up about half of the script but never did anything with it. Here's some of the test stuff.

I think kikinak has the right idea. Since this topic was originally about a specific machinima series, I don't think we'll get a lot of the feedback we need. Submitting machinima will allow other users to submit their arguments, which may prove helpful in deciding the fate of machinima's place in KYM.

I'll direct any further arguments to his topic.

Could we compile some of the better machinima examples and major games used and such? Wondering if that'd be worthwhile in a general directory-ish Machinima entry

I believe the most used games for Machinima right now are Half-Life and Halo.

I liked that they added a plot, made it more interesting.

Note: a big reason why Half-Life is used so much is because of Garry's Mod.

For those who haven't heard of it, Garry's Mod is basically a Sandbox for all games built on the Half-Life Source engine. It's basically the tool used to create so many of the images and machinima videos with characters from the Orange Box, and some lesser-known games.

Even so, machinima isn't really a meme. It is more kind of a genre of film. There isn't really anything memetic about machinima, and if one did spawn a meme, that would have it's own article.
