@Crimson Locks
Thanks for the drawing. The tail seems to be a bit short but you did an awesome job!
And the helmet looks pretty badass. Now I'm a little bit worried on the placement of the wings.
Maybe I put them near the front too much, but it's still looks good. I just want to make sure that the whole body is anatomically correct. And again, you still did an awesome job.

@markhaox14 & "Toys be finishing the job"

Anyway, is it normal to ship other people now or has this been going on the internet for some time?

@Verbs
Yep, I just saw those popping up last night, too.
I'm not sure why someone would put their job on the line and risk getting sued just to show people a bunch of crappy cell phone pictures of a movie, but there you have it.
But yeah, Please remember to use spoiler tags for anything relating to the content of the movie.
Some people don't want to wait to see it themselves so please be courteous to them.
Verbose shows you how to make spoiler buttons in his post up there so make sure to use them.

Anyway,
<div class=spoiler title="My thoughts">

Blurry as hell, but…

That's a Scootaloo on a Rainbow Dash.
+1 to movie!

I'm honestly not too surprised by those shots.
The trailer made it clear that there would be some magic-splosions involved and we'd seen screenshots of the girls in their winged and eared forms before.
McCarthy was also responsible for the wedding episodes which featured a 'traditional' girly event interrupted by magical creature combat, so it's good to see the prom setting won't be too straightforward at least.

@Mrwens
I do doubt that Shimmer is actually going to 'die.'
The caption about 'killing' her sounds like it might just be… poetic exaggeration.
Either we will have a situation where she was replaced or possessed and the real evil gets destroyed and she lives on repented, or she really is evil herself and she's just magically defeated in some way.
Either way, I'm pretty sure she survives since there are a few shots of her all beat up and Luna seems to be offering her a cake slicer thingy.

@Lunar, below

I highly doubt Shimmer is going to be dead… This isn't that kind of show.
Only bad guys with no characterization are killed.
Shimmer gets at least some characterization, so she likely still exists.
Oh yeah… And the beaten up Shimmer is being handed something like a workman's tool… Which presumably means "Clean up the mess you made"! Which would be after she destroys everything.
So yeah… Rumors of her death have been greatly exaggerated.

Edit: Le FLIP! DEADPARROT SAID IT FIRST! GAH!

This is… going to be insane… And It will probably end up being the only High School AU style thing I sit all the way through.

Did you guys notice how there's one shot where Twilight has wings and pony ears? It's right where human Celestia gives her the crown. So it looks like those are going to be some kind of super mode for the girls – maybe it's how Dash makes that rainbow tornado in the other screenshot. So I guess now we know what the deal was with the promo art switching back and forth.

@ Bionicle
Yes… it is completely normal. Some of us have been waiting for the chance to be shipped with our dream user, and so this is to attempt to help them out on those rainy days.

Discord Disclaimer: However, there's no guarantees as to who you get shipped with, so you have been warned…

I'm not too worried about spoilers, but just to be safe…

My expectations for this movie has gone down a bit. I kinda already knew what the plot was going to be, but I don't know how the writers are gonna pull this off. I won't be able to see this movie on opening day. I'm not gonna avoid spoilers, but I'll try to avoid reviews of this movie so that I can form my own opinion when I see it. It looks like my least favorite part of this movie is going to be the soundtrack.

I thoroughly enjoyed that trailer a lot more, personally Imma make a trip to the Pony Quarantine board on 4chan and check out the spoilers. I'm at the place where all the theaters playing this damn movie is at least 40 miles away from each theater and I would gladly go see this movie if it was at THE BIG HUGE ASS THEATER LITERALLY RIGHT DOWN THE STREET FROM MY HOUSE! But 40 miles to go see Equestria Girls? Nah, not worth it at all despite my expectations getting raised a little bit, so yeah I won't get to see the movie until they release it on Bluray anyways. Why should I give up going on the internet because Hasbro decided to release this movie only in the middle of nowhere in my home state? (Cause really, they DO have smaller theaters around here for fuck sake!)

Oh yeah definitely JUST another Highschool story that's for sure. Glad to see Spike also followed Twilight through the portal and now Spike Dog gets to talk including one of my favorite scenes from the trailer "Really? The Talking Dog is the weird thing here?!"

Will still save my total judgments for when I actually see the movie…..in how many months….dear god it's the Avengers and Iron Man 3 getting released overseas how many weeks ahead all over again…

I'm actually more intrigued with the new trailer. It's hard to compare if the writing overall has stayed the same, because it's an entirely different situation that forced the writers into a small range of stories that they could write (My guess is that Hasbro said to make a movie where the characters in the show are human, but make it so that they can return to Equestria like nothing ever happened.

Also, introduce Sunset Shimmer. Have her featured. Make it so that she can be a part of Season 4.) Not to mention that it's only a trailer that's been hacked up and pieced together a bit.

But considering that's what you have to work with, the premise is about as good as I could figure.

Despite how the plot is carried out (the plot has never been why I watched the show anyway,) it seems like the quirky humor is still there to me.

Twilight: "Looks like if I want my crown back, I'll have to become princess of the Fall Formal."

-cut to Twilight raising arms with huge grin-

Spike: "How exactly do you plan on doing that?"

Twilight: -arms still raised and with the same huge grin-
"I have no idea!"

I'm not sure if that's the sequence from the actual movie, but it was still chuckle-worthy.

If the humor is there, and the script is written well-enough, then I think I'll genuinely enjoy it. I think that will be the case.

The music could be annoying, or it could be really catchy. I can't tell yet, but I believe in William Anderson and Daniel Ingram.

(The design is growing on me. You can't have body designs that are too much like post-pubescent girls in high school or else you'll get angry soccer moms saying that Hasbro has "sexualized" My Little Pony. And angry soccer moms who buy toys for the target demographic are a much more dangerous group than angry bronies who are still the periphery in terms of toy sales, even with adult figurines, bikinis, and the like being sold which are obviously not meant for young girls.)

If I watch it, then it'll be on The Hub or through a late night Redbox rental or something. I'd buy it, but I'm not quite sure if I want it as a part of my DVD library.

@ CrashGordon94

Brit fag here… yes, and I will see it in theaters, and fortunately, I won't be given any weird eyes. Don't ask why, because I won't tell.
And to your other question… most likely no to being bombarded with ads. Hardly any ads have shown for the movie on television or billboards, and I doubt you'll find any until it actually releases.

On a completely unrelated note, who wants to see how a Family Brony lives?

This GIF was made by Mike, and I thank him for it!

Well, time to mount an expedition to /mlp/ to see how this movie ends. If it ends like the way that earlier rumor has it though, my jimmies will be rustled regardless as to what happens. Especially with the whole "the Elements are vital to Equestria" comment Celestia made.

So, Sunset Shimmer seens to be a Demon of sorts

It also looks like she have a horn, wings and pony ears. So her transformation is from pony to human to an anthropomorphic pony/human being.
And as DeadParrot stated, I think all the mane6 are getting to being part pony, part human.

Meh

In other sad news…

:(

EDIT: [SPOILERS] Full album from EQG leaked pictures from /mlp/

Otherwise, thank you, that's good by me!

Oh my lord! D':

Damn it, 4chan. My expedition was a failure. The ending is the only thing I'm really worried about. I've endured so much cliche Pokemon that I can handle a mediocre High School plot, but if it ends the way the rumors say, it will be the first time in a long time that my jimmies will have been thoroughly rustled. As in, seething with rage.

I'm sorry if I sound disrespectful, but who was Kiki?

No, you're fine. But there is an argument that is a little antagonistic.

Kiki was a girl who was diagnosed with brain cancer, but her family didn't want her to have a lot of the harsh treatments that normally come with cancer (i.e., chemotherapy, radiation.) Tara got wind of this and used her sway with the brony community and her other followers to garner support for Kiki's alternative treatment. It included keeping her Twitter followers aware of Kiki's condition and improvements on the treatment and doing auctions of signed paraphernalia.

The fundraising page is here.

The argument is that the treatments weren't best practices. Of course, their insurance wouldn't pay for it, so Kiki's family had to fundraise for her.

I talked to a couple of people who were hesitant to give money to a procedure with anecdotal support only. I remember giving a few dollars a long while back, but with my public health background, I do recognize why people wouldn't give money to treatments that don't have scientific evidence supporting it as much as other treatments.

In any case, it's sad to see a child die. I hope that she got some relief from her treatments and that she passed with some level of peace.

Now I would pay to see that.

Looks like Lauren went on another internet adventure, this time stopping by Ponychan and answering a bunch of questions.
Here's a write-up!
Quite a few interesting tidbits in there both about in-universe ideas and general production.
One of the more fun ones was Lauren's unused plans for another culture: Viking Caribou!
And since it was mentioned on the internet, it wasn't long before the inevitable occured:

I don't know how they would have been worked in, but Viking Caribou just sound hilarious.

<div class=spoiler title="More EqG fun">

It took me a couple passes to realize what happened here:

But that's a pretty inventive little bit of animation!
Charging your opponent only to teleport at the last moment in order to use your cloak as an attack?
Shimmer's got some moves!

No, not those moves!
Bad out-of-context screenshots!
Bad!
You'll turn Sunset into the new Trixie if you keep that up!
Speaking of…

She's been spotted!

(I have a feeling that Trixie probably won't be playing a direct role in events, but it's nice to see her included. Though actually, Snips and Snails were in that first trailer… Maybe she will come into play…)

"Whoa, look at them! Why are they walking so weird?"

You decide who's saying that.
(Hint: Both)
I loved this part.
Adorkable Twi can't figure out how her legs are supposed to work.
Scenes like this will really go a long way toward making a shaky concept like EqG much more palatable.

What?

I'm Thinking…

Equestria Girls being such a cause for freak out is kinda distracting us from everyone's previous freak out about Twilicorn. Its almost as if we've forgotten Twilight is a Princess now.

…Which could be the Studio's or Hasbro's Plan… Or Not…

And then when things proceed to not fall apart… They run Season four and everyone will have forgotten about Equestria Girls and their out freaking out over it and will be having a freak out over the coming season.

…Huh…

There is a simple reason why Sunset Shimmer is better at figthing Twilight than her oter opponents thus far: in merchandise of Sunset Shimmer, it said she used to be a student of Princess Celestia. Therefore, at the very least, you can say Sunset Shimmer is of a similar power to Twilight when the Elements aren't involved, and has been taught by the same Alicorn.

My guess as to Sunset Shimmer's motivation? similar to Nightmare Moon. She probably lost her position as Celestia's student not long before Celestia took on Twilight, and blames Twilight. At the end of the movie, she is redeemed by the Elements of Harmony, like Nightmare Moon was.

What I'm noticing is that people seem a HELL of a lot happier about all this now…
I remember someone saying something like "people had these issues with the main series at first and we all know how that turned out, they'll probably end up loving this too.", I'm starting to think they were right…

Though, the possibility of this film not being horrible brings up a question – how much do you think Hasbro plans to milk this if it turns out not to suck? Spinoff series, maybe? (It would have to be in order to compete with Monster High.) And if there is a spinoff, how long do you think its continuity would stay sealed off from the main show?

A hint, in case you don't get the reference immediately.

My guess is similar, although I don't think Celestia spent much time teaching Twilight how to fight (Twilight living in a peaceful land all up until the return of Nightmare Moon, Celestia never giving her any indication that Nightmare Moon was returning, or that Discord ever existed or Sombra or Diamond Tiara- …)

Twilight was probably trained to use her powers in a way that could be used as a princess. Most of her battle tactics involve friendship, harmony, and being clever less than raw power or offensive spells.

My thinking is that Sunset Shimmer may have had the same raw ability that has been shown in Twilight throughout the show, but she could have also had one, unique magical ability and a lot of smarts to go with it. For example, her cutie mark is about the equivalent of her name and Twilight's name. Like Celestia, perhaps she was able to move the sun over the horizon, and that's what got Celestia's attention. Of course, you can't have a filly running about doing your job (that's how people get usurped,) so you take her under your wing and see if she has the heart and mind to rule.

From there, she was probably seen by Yoda or Luna to be hiding a great evil, and so she wasn't taught in the manner that she wanted to and she bolted/Celestia kicked her out for doing something heinous (i.e., being tardy with a friendship report.)

But unlike Twilight, she didn't have friends to help her out when Celestia got angry (yes, I know it was because Twilight caused chaos in Lesson Zero immediately after Discord's chaos) cuz they wuz all jelly of her swag.

They wuz so jelly…

But I'll headcanon that. It's a sound theory.

It's hard to say. This had been in the works way early in 2012, if I remember correctly, so if there were plans for a spinoff series, it would be:

  1. A long way away. Hasbro would probably want to know that this was successful (probably after it airs on The Hub in the fall,) and then you'd have to give the people creating it time to put together episodes for it. We may not see it until 2015.
    • And if you had the same people working on it, then it would take away time from FiM. So my guess is that they would remain separate in this case, because FiM would be scratched. I don't think Hasbro will want to take away its main source of toy sales in My Little Pony, because My Little Pony is still iconic. There will always be Pony toys, even if there isn't always a show. But I don't think they want to nix the show in order to sell more EgG paraphernalia.
  2. Made by a different staff (and still probably a long way away.)
    • I don't think the universes would ever blend, because that doesn't seem to make sense in terms of merchandising. You're trying to appeal to two different demographics, so if you have two shows catering to those two demographics, it doesn't seem to make sense in the eyes of Hasbro (who probably still see cartoons as being for a specific demographic) to ever mix them up.
    • Now if you had a different staff doing an EqG spinoff while FiM was still on its own path, lightning would have to strike twice for it to have the popularity/success of FiM.

If there's a spinoff, then I'll wager that we won't see it until late 2014, and it will never cross the line so that it affects the FiM continuity. (I won't say that Twilight won't re-enter the human world ever again if just to hype up a spinoff, but I don't think that would be a part of a Season episode either.)

Last edited Jun 08, 2013 at 12:08PM EDT

@EqG Spinoff:

I don't think they'll make one. I honestly think this is a one-time movie thing, and I'm not even considering it canon. Like Verbs said, if the same people from FiM made it, it would take too much time. And if it were made by different people, it would probably suck because they don't know how to handle it.

Also, I'm pretty sure Meghan already said it was non-canon. Anybody got proof of that?

Bonus Pony:

@ Verbsie
Is that our cue to make Sunset Motherbucking Shimmer stories?

Twilight has just been crowned princess, and the fact is spread around Canterlot and Ponyville quickly. One pony in particular hears this, and smiles deviously. She places something on her head, treks to the castle, knocks on the door, and waits for Twilight. Twilight opens the door, and gapes in shock at what she sees. Guess who's standing there, as Queen of Equestria, wearing a crown ten times as valuable as Twilight's? SUNSET… MOTHERBUCKING… SHIMMER. That's who!

Did I do it right?

@ EQG
I honestly would love to converse about Equestria Girls with you gents (and ladies), but I really don't wish to spoil the plot, ending, or anything vital to the movie. With that being said, I would like to point out something…

Who wants to take bets on whether Sunset Shimmer is going to join the main cast?

For some inexplicable reason… I find myself wanting to say… Its a highly probable outcome. If only because the latent OCD in us, and those who prefer Unicorns will be screaming about how empty it feels without a second Unicorn.

However… If one defines the Mane 6 by the whole "Elements of Harmony" thing… Then there's kinda going to need to be a sort of… Thing to happen… Which is going to be annoying… Which may require an Entire Sunset Shimmer Arc for the opening that gets her ready to be… Good.

And thinking of that… I place the odds Something like this:

Sunset Joins Main Cast: 40%

Sunset doesn't Join Main Cast: 35%

Sunset gets her own Element somehow: 25%

Now… Onto Things that may or may not be Spoilers

In any case, I have the distinct feeling on how the aftermath of the battle with her goes like… More or less…

Unlike Trixie who wanted revenge on Twilight, who's "Redemption" led to her apologizing for her actions…

Since Shimmer's main motivation seems to be a sincere belief in her own worth and she wants a chance to prove that. Sunset is probably going to start questioning her own sense of self worth after all this. And she's going to be very depressed from all this.

Basically… Ever seen a Narcisist's facade get crushed? If they spend so much time trying to prove they are the best… If they are beaten so much as once… They sort of get the Blue Screen of Death.

…Well… Narcissism is technically a defense mechanism to keep one from feeling worthless after all… And crushing a defense mechanism hurts. so its to be expected. And she'll suddenly seem pretty harmless when its scientifically proven that the world does not revolve around her.

…She'll… For want of a better word… See no more reason for her to exist. Since she only places value on her being the best… She'll place no value on herself at all… Seeing herself as fit to be destroyed or fade away.

After that… Since broken pride isn't enough reason to want revenge (unless she's humiliated by others after this) So her viable plots are narrowed down to A) Find a new path, seeking meaning in life B) Learn how to feel value in herself through the Teachings of the Mane 6.

I don't know how to wrap this all up…But I guess that about covers it.

Lunar, she's not joining the cast. Based on the information leaked, she just won't be joining the cast. Not until late proverbial season 6. Why

Her punishment for the devastation she causes in the movie is community service. By the time she is done, the portal to Equestria will be closed and will not open for the next 30 months (based on an info drop Celestia made prior to Twilight's jump)

I have a feeling that Equestria Girls is going to be like most of the Pokemon movies to me. It's gonna be "meh". Not great but not incredibly bad either. That is, if Celestia doesn't force Twilight to stay in Humana (my filler name for human!Equestria). If that happens, especially after the whole plot being about how important the Elements are, then my jimmies will suffer a catastrophic containment breach, which will result in several extremely pissed off rants and possibly a fanfic where Celestia dies horribly.

Oh…

…Damn…

Sounds a bit harsh though… It essentially means She's been Banished from Equestria for like… three years…

um, assuming that there is at least some knowlede of Equestria in the other world, thne Sunset Shimmer being sentanced to community service doesn't nessecarily need to stop her from returning to Equestria. How? By sentancing her to do community service on Equestria. (for example, working at the Ponyville library? Twilight could probably do with someone to watch the place while she does her Princess stuff…)

Long time no see everyone, I think that it is time for me to host a stream.

Welcome to the /kym/ Stream, where we sometimes play poni videos.

On second thought, I think most of us are still busy with exams and other work related activates before the summer holidays so I think the stream will be suspended on my end until further notice. In the meantime I will be participating on this thread again and discuss the release of Equestria Girls.
