Well, this just got incredibly awkward…
Hey, let's not forget about me.
Since we've a fair amount of new posters here, let me once again assert that I'm the resident prince of perversion. I've more fetishes than you can shake your dick at, and the things that'd make you want to gouge out your eyes are quite amusing to me. That is, when they're not outright arousing. I've witnessed the widths and depths of depravity, both beautiful and terrible, and I'd tell stories of such things if they didn't have the propensity to plunge the uninitiated into catatonia.
Writing a clopfic/rapefic/foalcon/second person clopfic/fetish fic is almost a guarantee to get featured. Which is strange, considering how so few Bronies claim to like clop.
Well, I think that might be more due to the fact the fetishists are really starved for content. Consider this: It's hard enough to broach the subject of bog-standard, vanilla heterosexual relations in the missionary position in polite conversation. Get even a bit more experimental than that and you very quickly become the other, someone who has no business showing their face to any respectable folk. Or the other way around, for that matter.
As a result, the whole matter is all hush-hush, under wraps, never sees the light of day. Other than when someone wants to point and have a cheap laugh, of course. Is it any surprise, then, that many people fail to even realize they have a fetish (I'm willing to bet that a good chunk of self-diagnosed asexuals have this problem) let alone find an outlet for it. That's no mean feat, since you basically have to stumble on them, what with them not being allowed to advertise. Not that many would dare to, in the first place.
So when you finally do find that elusive outlet, you'll cling to it like a hungry runt at the mother's teat and heap praise upon it regardless of its actual quality. And the artists involved in the production of the material will have little incentive to improve; after all, you already have an audience that's fiercely loyal and averse to change. Why risk experimenting? 'Tis a sad state of affairs, indeed.
As for the clopfics themselves, I hope I ain't expected to give out recommendations. I've read so many that they've all kinda blurred together, and I'm crap at remembering their titles anyhow. Besides, I'd need to know the inner workings of the kinks folk here have to give good suggestions, and I doubt most of you'd be quite that forthcoming with the information.
I will, however, note that most people here have read very little pornographic material. The exceptions being yours truly, an unapologetic pervert, xTSGx, an avid writer, and markhaox, who is female. Now, before you lynch me for being a sexist pig, let me explain. It's a commonly accepted fact that women usually prefer naughty stories to naughty pictures. It has to do with women generally being attracted to less tangible qualities than men, who generally care disproportionately more about looks. What qualities, you ask? Well, this might sound sexist again, but generally: wealth, success, strength and confidence. This, unfortunately, is deeply rooted in our natural compulsions for what makes a mate desirable, which are still stuck in the prehistoric days where such qualities were good for survival.
That's not universally true, mind you. With the way things are, those who want things differently are no longer brutally eliminated from the competition. And what passes for "successful" tends to fluctuate with time, place and culture anyhow, making female arousal quite the complicated matter. Not to say all men are simpletons drooling over the bewbz, either, you can find plenty of men with quite esoteric tastes. They ain't allowed to express those quite so openly, though, because all that frilly, frou-frou nonsense is unmanly and shit.
But anyway, back to the point at hand. It's quite easy to depict physically attractive people through images, but as I said, women want more than just a pretty face. Unfortunately, since things like confidence and success are rather difficult to depict visually, you generally need a story to go along with it. And since many places still continue the rather backwards practice of making women terrified of and disgusted by sex, they'll usually prefer just the story without any images, save the ones they imagine themselves. And thus, erotic literature is the female equivalent of a porn mag or vid. Now you know why Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey are so popular.
That's not to say that men can't get anything out of written pornography. Provided you're not so creatively bankrupt that you can't imagine things, you can make the events play out in your head, in just the sort of style you prefer. And, if you can do a bit of on-the-fly mental editing, you can even leave out the parts you ain't so hot for. Or add things you are hot for. It's much like being a movie director. 'Course, this is a bit of an acquired taste and requires some effort, so it ain't too popular, especially in this age of instant gratification. Still, if you feel your run-of-the-mill porn ain't cutting it for you, maybe you should try this more contemplative approach to getting yer knickers off.
Another thing that's more of a personal taste of mine is that many stories just have a sort of tenderness and warmth that's damn near impossible to find in more visual styles of porn. Which pisses me off to no end. It's like sex ain't sex if it ain't rough, violent and largely devoid of any emotion more complicated than lust for dat ass. Would it be too much effort for the actors to at least have a few embraces and kisses and whatnot in between (or hell, even during) the porking?
