Now, after all this time I have grown fond of many of you and find the opinions of most of you relevant or at least of my interest so I would like to know your opinion on something (I am going to make this same question in another forum).
What is your opinion on e-sports?
If you ask me I find the whole idea unsettling because I have seen the nest of corruption professional sports became. You know, the amount of corruption in the FIFA world cup for example.
I also feel revolted by the use of sponsors. I have no problem with sports brands providing resources for players and therefore putting their names on the shirt tags and things like that, but once the brand is more notable than the team's colors or symbol then something is wrong. And you can see that in many sports teams nowadays with a brand logo in each shoulder and on both front and back of the shirt obscuring the team logo and sometimes even the player number. I would not like to see that in gaming anymore.
And the worst part is something my friend who is a sports fan hates the most. The lack of fun, love and passion. Once you stop playing because you enjoy it and you only play to win and be rich and famous then there is no point in playing. And that is something you can see more and more in e-sports players. Some Asian dude who plays a MOBA and does not even like the game, does not know the lore, and does not care about all the fun aspects of the game, only winning the championship and earning bucks.
I would rather have no pay for enjoying a game than getting paid for playing a game I don't care about. It also happens in TCGs such as Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh!, and I also hate it there since I play those games, but I believe gaming can still be saved from that "No fun, only victory matters, template based gameplay" mindset that infected TCGs, while TCGs, or at least MTG can't be saved from that (Thank you Star City Games, you corrupted sponsor).
For that reason I hate the concept of e-sports and "professional gamers" and actually feel there is no honor in gaming championships if you don't have fun.
I would like to hear your opinion on that.

This seems to me to be a rerun of the "professional athletes in the Olympics" debate.
It was argued much the same that professional athletes wouldn't be interested in the sport itself, just making a paycheck. But on the other hand limiting the field to amateurs-only meant that the field was limited to rich people only because anyone who had to work for a living would either not have time to git gud or would be playing the sport for money.
Similar to how George Washington was against Congress & the President getting paid (because that would ruin the point of being a "public servant") until it was pointed out that that would limit the highest offices in the land to the wealthy who could afford to take 4 or more years off from their work.
There's some large differences here, e-sports are still very new & there's a lot lower barrier to entry, but there's still the fact that it's a lot easier to git gud at vidya when you're getting paid for it. Other people have to work at their jobs and find money to travel to championships themselves, professional gamers don't have to worry about that.
Same with soccer or any other sport.
By the way, through some detective work , people found that some games like Zombie Rush are filled with bot-filled positive Steam reviews. Valve responded.
We're back to this again.

It's incredibly silly and even the most hardcore gamers know it is given how "MLG" is basically a meme now. I don't think it'll ever break out of the niche it's in and I don't see a reason why it should. Watching LPs are fun because of the LPer's personality and reaction to events. Watching five guys screaming CS:GO callouts to each other while they tryhard really isn't.
It could end up like FIFA or the IOC but I honestly don't see it ever getting big enough to get that kind of corruption. It'll be a novelty like arena football or field hockey is.
I can't really fault the "professional gamers" for doing it, though. Making money doing something you love is pretty much the dream goal everyone is after.

ISIS terrorist murders 50 at gay people, what's to blame?
Islam's problems with extremism and the existence of a group both devoted to & capable of waging global jihad?
A gun control system that allows people to walk into a gun dealership & buy an assault rifle even after they've been repeatedly questioned by the FBI relating to a suicide bomber?
No, it's obviously those awful vidya gaems to blame!
Just remember, "we are not Jack Thompson!"
Holy shit I can't believe I miss the days when it was Jack Thompson we were dealing with. At least back then gaming journalists stood up for gamers and video games in general, now some "journalists" are no better than Thompson. Thompson blamed Halo for the Beltway sniper attacks, now a guy at Polygon is blaming shooters in general for the actions of a religious extremist.

These people pushing their agenda in the wake of a tragedy is not necessarily due to stupidity (no matter how fun or tempting that would be to argue). It's because they're so political that they can't let a controversy go to waste, so they use it to impose their caustic rhetoric that makes no real sense. I don't think they really believe in the ideas about gaming causing problems in the real world, they just want control things and persuade people to get them that power.

They're also idiots, I can figure out a much easier way to get people to agree with "vidya bad" after something like this.
"You know, after what happened in Orlando I'm kind of put off FPS for a while".
Sounds much less like Jack Thompson, and is far easier to swallow. Do stuff like that slowly over the course of months/years and a bunch of people will start coming around to that viewpoint.

Yeah, that's probably also true. His approach is still pretty silly, however. Violence in fictional media is not nearly the same as real-life violence. I'll admit I've seen the video of Budd Dwyer committing suicide on live television, and the effects of him shooting himself are very different from the rather cartoonish-looking violence we see in video games and other media. Bodies react in video games in a much different fashion than from what I saw in that video. Plus, we know one is for real and the other stuff isn't. Context is also pretty important when consuming media since things can be nuanced, but it appears some people don't give a damn about that.
Looks like games journalism is trying to make a powerplay by relating the recent shooting to violent video games. opinion Possibly trying to show that they have sway over the upcoming E3 event. I'm thinking akin to trying to make as much scandal as Janet Jackson's Wardrobe Malfunction, create enough bad press and they'll have to replace the content provider with something more… "wholesome" end opinion
Luckily, our pals at KiA have compiled a list of those that are yelling the loudest with their smoking guns

Whelp the ESA has generated another fact sheet for this year. Enjoy the updated numbers
Also, there's a new narrative (articles) that's being pushed about E3 "Curbing" their language when it comes to shooting games in wake of the Orlando Shooting (which doesn't make sense to me, numbers wise.) It goes a little something like this: Approved language and overall lack of detail in a hyped shooter: "Censorship successful- I mean, politically correct for being sensitive in this hour of sorrow!" Game super violent and hyped for viscera? "This is whats wrong with our culture!"
It's a damned if you do/don't since those promoting the games are subject to the journalist/publisher's opinions.

Well, the ESA basically says WE are the audience, SJWs are not the audience.

I am sure they find enjoyment in their actions. You can see it in their faces when you meet them face to face and in the intentionally condescending tone they use in written form. They do derive pleasure from their actions because they are mostly devoid of joy due to their indoctrination, which means they feel joy mostly by tampering with other individual's joy.
I know that is how they act because douchebags and bullies do the same and I once became a douchebag. I also used to believe in many things SJWs do such as "rape culture" and I know that those who believe they are doing good are bitter because they believe the world is evil, so they find joy in doing whatever they could imagine to stop that evil.
They are bullies who believe they are heroes.

The whole SJW clique reminds me of some of the idiots I went to high school with. They're wrong loudly and often, they never get a clue, and they come across as incredibly smug and insufferable while doing so. I thought I had gotten past that after graduating high school, but apparently not.

That's because they never matured past that point, which even at that time is lower than what's acceptable.
They also have nothing real, so they seek to take everything from anyone that has anything real.

The average person in GamerGate is a gainfully employed 30 year old with a college degree.
Update on E3, now an SJW journo is claiming she got kidnapped by an Uber driver.
TL;DR:
She was in a car with GPS, since the driver had to actually drive her where she wanted to go before kidnapping her.
Upon noticing that the driver wasn't going to stop, she did not call the police for 40 minutes. While being in a car that can be easily found due to GPS.
After 40 minutes, the driver still hadn't locked the doors with the kid-safety function, so she was able to run away.
After managing to escape a kidnapping attempt by a car with GPS, and with the identity of the driver easily available through the company he was working for, she did not call the police, but went on Twitter instead.
Now she's saying she didn't call the cops because she's stressed (and not because they actually investigate this shit), and says she reported the driver to the company but can't say more because they told her not to talk about it for legal reasons (funny how that didn't stop her from talking about it in the first place).
Add in a history of lying to play victim and it's clear what's happening.

_________ Law: If an individual goes to any form of social media to tell of a serious/dangerous event, such as a rape, kidnapping, physical assault, etc., before going to the police, then that event is a complete fabrication and shall be treated as such.
I'm not sure what to call this law. I thought about Quinn, but she's done so much more and so much worse than just that. Sarkeezian, same issue. Wu is a psychotic who deserves no recognition, even if it's for being the inspiration for a law/rule of thumb like this.

No, you cannot.
The first problem with this is your delivery. Simply how it’s presented, forced into the games, is going to do have the total opposite effect of what you want, never mind the message. It is beyond preachy, horribly invasive and completely dishonest. Anyone with a half-functioning brain would be able to see through it the second they see it, and will retaliate because of it.
The second and most important thing is that the only thing more dishonest than the delivery is the message. This dogma you’re preaching has been proven wrong over and over and over again.
You have nothing. Stop trying to take everything from everyone else.
Oh hey, the Knowyourmeme article on Gamergate is the first search result in google now. (granted the wikipedia definition still reigns as the description.)
That said, It's a pretty dry day for new dramatic news (watch me jinx it) directly involving the movement with only stories but not concrete facts to go on. Currently there's rumors that Gamergate supporters were involved in the Guccifer 2.0 attack on the DNC, but no mention of GG itself.
Anita has doubled down, stating her analysis of Hitman is accurate and anyone that tells her otherwise "hasn't played the game"
Comparisons have been sprouting up on Mighty No.9's general lack of content despite funding compared to other crowdfunded games.
And there's general complains about how a bestselling game (witcher 3) from one company shouldn't affect the decisions of another (Bioware).
Everything else appears to be loosely related to videogames.
