Have an idea for a user you think might make a good mod? Talk about it here!

Here's how this works: User A will suggest user B, preferably linking to their profile for others to see easily, with reasons behind it. (If User A suggested themselves, we will not take it seriously.) If several people like that suggestion, user B will be added to a list. If user B is suggested, but there was a good amount of disagreement over it, they will not be added to the list. Once a few users have a fair consensus, saying they might make a good mod, a mod will post the list and ask if these are the users they want us to take a look at. If people overall like the list, we mods will take a look at the users on it.

Note that you don't have to meet all these requirements, but that these are simply parts that increase your odds and will make it easier to get noticed. Likewise, don't try to compare yourself to experienced mods as this might demotivate yourself; their quality is the result of experience and they started out just like you.

  • Doesn't break the rules often, if at all. If a user has no major offenses recently, then they'll normally be fine. Responding to a spambot doesn't ruin your chances at modship, for example. Heavy offenses can be forgiven, given that some time has passed since that offense.
  • Is nice. Now, this isn't a requirement per say (see: HolyCrapItsBob), but it's definitely a plus.
  • Is active in their field. This means that, whatever area they're best suited to be a mod in, they aren't sporadic in their activity. A month break for finals wouldn't be bad, but leaving the site every three months for a month isn't very good.
  • Active in discussions about the specific area and brings up ideas for improvement when possible.
  • Has an intuitive understanding of boundaries and rules.

Entry:
- A fair amount of editorships and edits, depending on the quality of the seperate edits (possibly Sr. Researcher level (30 editorships or 300 edits), but less if you just add a lot of info at once).
- Doesn't suck at entries, knows textile and KYM's writing style well enough to not need too much help on an entry.
- Quality above quantity.

Media:
- Preferably minimum Media Chauffeur (500 media edits).
- Regularly asks for images to be moved to a better gallery. For your own odds, it's better to post your move and remove suggestions in the public threads so that all mods have a good view of your effort.
- Good tagging, good sourcing,
- Active in various galleries instead of a small few.

Forum:
- Posts in the Maintain board and try to help people with their problems, offering sensible suggestions, stuff like that.
- Able to demonstrate a capacity for conversing and debating on various topics in a way that shows you can judge situations fairly and impartially. (Outside of Riff-Raff.)
- Having a knack for defusing tense situations, having the ability to deal with derailings and lockings.

I should note that as of right now, forum mods are in low demand. The most likely way for someone to get forum mod is if a current active forum mod became inactive, so we'd want someone to cover their timeslot. This doesn't mean that you can't/shouldn't suggest anyone for it, though.

On the flip side, good media mods are currently in high demand. Make of that what you will.

I guess I will do the honors for the first suggestion.

I would suggest Doeoeod to be a media mod as he has done a tremendously great job in cleaning up the video sections of this site.

Doeoeod has been asked if he would be a mod several times before and doesn't want to be one.

I think I'll move this thread to General, as this is more of a general thing despite it being used to "suggest" mods (also Mod review thread being in General).

Oh. That's a shame. He would have been a great media mod if he wanted to be one.

Big thanks to Prof for making a thread about users who might make a good mod, and not just people who are immediately ready for modship. We all know there are users who are one or two steps away from being the next heavy lifters on KYM (not to imply that anyone other than RM lifts).

Like I said in the other thread , I think Kotor has the makings of a helpful and productive media moderator if he would just do something that isn't Fire Emblem. He manages a large volume of tagging, uploading, and sourcing, and has a good sense of our organization and tagging procedures, as well as how to improve them. We could all learn from his character-source tagging system.

Eglamore would also be a damn fine media moderator in terms of the quality of his work, if we could only get him to do a bit more. The never-ending need for competent media handlers is at odds with how productive a user needs to be before we deem them "mod worthy", and I'd say he's almost there.

All mock-hate aside, Lopunny does a metric buttload of image cleaning and media handling. His titles speak for themselves I guess, he's been a gift to both our image galleries and the "user above you" threads because apparently that's all he does.

Crimeariver seems to have a good head on his shoulders when it comes to media, and has recently picked up the pace in terms of image cleaning, tagging, and sourcing (I'm assuming his long break was for exams). It'd be nice to have someone more focused on the RWBY gallery since it seems to be falling apart in places, and pushing our policy on gore.

GhettoRobin seems to be a new face around the media cleaning threads, but has been hauling ass in terms of image cleaning. He also seems to pay close attention to the reaction images gallery, which we've identified as needing a whole lot of help. I guess if you're warning people via wall post for their image posts and cleaning galleries, you're already doing what a media moderator should do.

Also check this guy's edits he seems to be fucking everywhere I dunno man. Oh, and obligatory why haven't we modded taryn yet

I agree with Eglamore being given modship. His media work really impresses me.
As for Lopunny, she's really only active in the Pokemon gallery, which is against the list of conditions for modship. Better give her a Pokemon badge, I guess.
Commander Corson is a horrible candidate. He's responsible for a lot of improperly placed images, bad tags, reposts, etc.

Yea, that's the main issue for me for a while. I focus way too much on Pokemon stuff. I am doing what I can to rectify that issue.

A couple of us were discussing this in the IRC the other day; why not let Kotor and Lopunny moderate their respective galleries. Would it be possible to give them the ability to move/remove images without any of the other mod abilities? Because if so they would be able to effectively manage those two galleries which would take a huge load off the other media mods as well as the image cleaning thread.

The job of a media mod isn't just removing images/yelling at horny teens. They're expected to discuss and make decisions for the KYM gallery as a whole, which most of the time doesn't apply to only one gallery. It's all or nothing when it comes to modship.

Recently a couple of active forum mods either got a lot less active or straight up quit. While the forum is still well covered on the area of mods, you could say the position opened up.

But this is an optional one. So far we didn't really have a big consensus on who could be a forum mod, so we're asking you [the forum] for help. Who could be worth considering for forum mod?

After doing a hasty search before going back to work, I say TripleA9000 would be a safe bet. His only follower is EpycWyn, but he's got a hefty amount of forum posts (as to where these posts go, I don't know), and he seems pretty eloquent. Profile shows he loves the site and the site loves him back.

I second the Crimerariver nomination for forum mod, since he's been on the forums, comments, irc, and my wall (and presumably the walls of other people as well), plus he seems to have a cool head most of the time. Tillster also seems like a good canidate. I want to name like 20 more users, but that's what comes to mind atm.
To be honest, I'm not quite certain what qualities you are looking for, specifically. Maybe you could make a list like this?

Mandatory qualities
• At least somewhat active on KYM
• Hasn't declared they don't want to be a mod

Important qualities
• Writes well enough so that grammatical/ spelling errors don't impede comprehension.
• Doesn't exist on the site for the sole purpose of a single agenda.
• Cool-headed
• Knows how to post links and images and videos and help with all the "noob stuff"

Useful qualities
• Visits other parts of the site, and not just the forum.
• Has a good reputation on the site.
• Not one to provoke, but willing to stand their ground when appropriate.
• A good mediator; tries to consider several viewpoints

Qualities that don't hurt
• Familiarity with some of the fancier textile mechanics
• Being around long enough to establish a reputation

(Disclaimer: this list is by no means accurate or complete. I just did my best guess to provide a rough draft of the list of qualities so that I would know who to recommend.)

The three forum mod suggestions (Crimeariver, TillsterRulz, and TripleA9000) have and currently are being debated. Thanks for your suggestions, and if anyone has any more feel free to say them.

I can't quite put my finger on why exactly so I apologize if I'm doing this wrong but I just really like the idea of Tupolev being a forum mod. He seems to care about the well being of the site enough and is an all around pretty cool guy.

There are almost certainly too many forum moderators, but it seems as if we work together well-enough despite that, and so that you have a moderator nearby at any time who can use their mod powers if needed.

At least in the forum, it's probably more of an "honor" than an expectation of responsibility. But there's always work to find in media and entries.

I agree, seeing as how a lot of forum mods are barely active on the forums, hmmm.

As I stated (effectively, apparently) in the council, if people are finding work to do in the forumsl, then there's a need for forum mods.

I guess it could be summed up under this statement: Is there a place where forum mods should do their job, but aren't, either because someone else got to it first, or they didn't find it? If so, then there's a need for forum mods.

However, even if this condition isn't met, that doesn't mean there's no benefit to mentioning someone. We keep tabs on users who look promising even if they aren't quite there yet, or there isn't a need for them. If someone stands out in forum usage, being helpful and trustworthy, then we might wait until we need a forum mod to pick them up. We can't do that unless we notice them in the first place, of course.
