You know with as much arguing people make about anime and certain topics most of the time people we often see people not actually make a attempt at understanding why certain things are a thing. To illustrate what I mean I'm going to start off with the least controversial and move into controversy rather than starting off with the most controversial for clicks.
CGI is here to stay. A lot of companies have figured out how to do it properly to the point unless you make 3d models your'e not going to notice. I'm going to ruin the illusion here, but what they figured out was that having character models with too many polygon counts and too much shading and such were dead giveaways. I'm going to ruin the illusion here, but a good 80% of anime is cgi. "Excuse me what?" Look at how regardless of what way the characters move the anatomy doesn't fuck up and they don't use long distance anime face. If in a anime whenever the characters are small to simulate being long away the amount of detail on their face is less then yes it is hand drawn.
How to tell if a anime is drawn by hand or done with cgi:
Hand drawn anime:
Something that needs to be addressed is that Japan's economy is more or less in a recession and has a aging population. That is one of the reasons why we're starting to see anime that we're seeing a lot of that are hybrids of multiple genres. The thing that people know but kind of forget is that different demographics aren't completely cut off from each other, they're more like a venn diagram where while some of the people in said demographic only like a certain style of story telling most of the time it drastically overlaps.
For the first point basically what I'm talking about is that that doesn't confine itself to one particular genre or such is doing a lot better now than shows that are one particular genre only and don't step outside of the box. Like Boku no Hero Academia did a fuck ton better than Attack on Titan viewer wise, cause Hero Academia didn't confine itself to one niche and one niche only.
Which brings us to pandering. The thing that a lot of """"anime fans™""""" refuse to admit is that sales of dvds and tv views are no longer in themselves able to justify production. Even big name anime only sell a couple ten thousand sales. "BUT THAT'S ENOUGH TO JUSTIFY MY ANIME". Even a cheap anime costs about $300k a episode. The thing is though a lot of countries are starting to ban anime with too much fanservice so we're seeing less overt fanservice so it's a give and take if you hate fanservice the thing you'll like is that companies are making it less like Highschool of the Dead; the downside is that pg-13 fanservice is probably going to keep flooding. A lot of people try and argue that pg-13 fanservice isn't fanservice, but if you look at the pvc figurines the companies commission it's dead obvious what their intentions are.
LGBT and anime:
The thing that people ignore is that the last poll of Japan found that 7% of the population is lgbt. "Well then why are there so few queer characters?" Easy while if you are in a lesbian relationship in Japan your parents will be disappointed being queer is completely frowned down universally. There's starting to be "trap" jpop stars, but the reason why there's only two queer jpop stars is that it's universally frowned down upon. You can be a gay guy but it's socially unacceptable to be a flamboyant gay guy; you can be a lesbian but it's socially unacceptable to be a butch lesbian, you can be trans but it's socially unacceptable to be "gender queer" or "gender fluid" or any of that.
"That's homophobic"
A secret of the gay community in the west and the USA is that 60% of gay guys think feminine gay guys give the gay community a bad name.
Race and anime:
Japan is 99% ethnically Japanese and almost all of the remaining ethnically asian. The vast majority of Japan have never seen a black person in real life before.
"But it's racist how there's not more minorities in anime"
Since almost all of japan has never seen a black person before all they have to go off of is stuff like rap and such.
Tldr; The future of anime:
Less genre specific anime.
Complete death of anime that rely on dvd sales or tv views and instead rely even further on merchandise.
Hand drawn anime is unheard of.
Almost all anime done in cgi.
PG-13 pandering to not get banned in other countries, but adult only merchandise even more common. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if in the next couple of years, considering that sex dolls have gone from $25k usd to $800 in only five years, them being sold as officially licensed products.
More lgbt in anime, but queer characters still nonexistent.
We probably won't see more hispanics, arabs, blacks or other races in anime but we probably will see them be better written.
