Yet another worst community or fandom thread

going with KYM at the moment too. a whole lot of people would rather post a hundred pictures of their literal who waifu than contribute meme examples or something that’s actually somewhat funny to the site.

I've been trying for months now to help KYM to clean up its act.
But to no avail. A majority of the actual community is so blinded by tits n' clits to see anything beyond it. Also very blatant homophobia, from personal experience.

big if true

Gonna be original here and talk about one I'm certain no one here is aware of.

Speaking as someone who's apart of it, the Godzilla fandom is a double-edged sword. On one hand, the conventions are full of fun people who love expressing their love for the movies through cosplay, art, etc. On the other hand, the more "vocal" online members of the community have the potential to be the most toxic people you'll ever talk to.

You've got the people who fawn over a specific era (Showa, Heisei, and Millenium) and shit on you if you even dare express love for one they dislike, the clickbaiters who report on every bit of information related to the next movie whether it's true or not (for example, mistaking a piece of fanart for concept art) and spreading misinformation throughout the fandom, the Bagan dick-riders who insist he was supposed to appear in Final Wars because a random video claimed he was going to be in it, and the overall juvenile nature makes it kinda embarrassing to be a part of. A lot of this can be attributed to the possibility that a ton of fans are children (because dinosaurs + giant monsters = something kids like) and therefore a lot of arguments are uncivil and unpleasant to read.

Compared to most online communities this seems very small in comparison, but I thought it'd be fun to vent about the shitty part of the fandom here.

tldr; IRL people are pretty cool, online people aren't if you're looking in the right place.

If you wanna get called retarted, autistic, getting yelled at for basic mistakes by a Russian guy then I recommend you play CS:GO comp. One of the worst competitive scenes I've ever seen. Worse than Overwatch with its throwers and being genuinely shitty. Worse than League of Legends with the unbridled hatred for anyone who isn't above Bronze.

I've never seen a site so obsessed with porn and the worst communities

If you think kym is obsessed with porn then you have not been to any actual porn sites.

I personally think the knowyourmeme seems to be a bit too serious most of the time, like discussing politics and serious issues. I find no issue with that, but with the whole "documentation" stigma, users seem to lose their sense of humor and act extremely petty and pompous.

It has never been this bad in my experience, but the more the admins push trump/political "memes" it creates an atmosphere of pure elitist bullshit.

not to say users/mods/staff are actually like this, but the way it has been for the few years it strays away from the original objective of the tone as far as community.

I blame it on the sudden rise of SJW's/Social Turmoil in the US and most other countries.

All and all I am proud to be a member of this site, but we all have room for improvement.

luv u guise

Alright, it's my turn.

The M.U.G.E.N community is probably one of the worst I have ever seen. It's as bad, if not worse, as the usual suspects such as CG: GO and LoL, yet those have the excuse of being based on a competitive video-game. M.U.G.E.N have no such excuses. It's a fighting game engine where everyone can make some of the most ridiculous shit for it. Of course, many fighters are going to have problems, or be unbalanced on purpose. Cue salt and anger from the community.

There is a group of holier-than-thou members who want MUGEN to be cleansed of all sins. In reality, it is just a group of elitists, mainly from other FGC, and they get angry at nearly everything. Like something that they don't like? Enjoy being mocked by some of the discord servers out there? Like AI vs. AI matches and overpowered characters that isn't Rare Akuma? How dare you! This is not how you should use MUGEN, and you're a disgrace to the community. Someone is streaming MUGEN and everyone is happy for once? This is usually not how to showcase MUGEN, and is everything wrong within the community. They are extremely unpleasant, and I highly suspect that they care more about their e-peen than about MUGEN in general.

About the various forums and websites that are about MUGEN, DEAR GOD! They hate each other and it shows. They blacklist each other and accusations of a specific website being toxic happens almost daily. It's like that since MUGEN is born. Half the community is fighting against the other half. This is clearly not healthy at all. They cannot unite themselves to screw in a light bulb. That's how bad they could get.

There is also a lot of kids there. They like anything cartoon or fandom related and they make a lot MS Paint doodle characters. They are often the butt of the joke of the entire community, but I just ignore them as I am not a fan of cringe-related bashing.

Sure, there are a lot of nice projects that was made for MUGEN. Thousands of characters have been made. Some are accurate to their source-game. Some are not. Some are good. Some are bad. Some are overpowered. Some are literal shitposts not to be taken seriously. Using MUGEN by yourself is very fun, but once you dig into the community, you will find a lot of hatred against the most irrelevant things. This is what happens when you unite an FGC with a one based on user-mad stuff, both have been known to have some problems at times, You got a giant shithole of a community.

Honestly, all of them, every fandom/community out there starts out the same an ends up the same.

They always start small with some dedicated people who are just there to share their love for the media, it doesn't matter what their political leanings are, what their sexual identity/preferences are, what they believe in ideologically/religiously/etc, they're just there to enjoy that hobby. But, for better, or in this case worse, they're also open and tolerant to anyone who wants to join. On paper that's great, the more the merrier, problem is a lot of those new people don't hold the same values as the originators, neither their focus on keeping personal identity separate nor their penitence for tolerance or acceptance of other users they may differ from.

So as time goes on, and most/all the original people, for one reason or another, move on, the newer people slowly work their way to the top, and then suddenly they start to uproot everything it previously stood for and start to change it under the guise of being "inclusive and progressive." Now certain ways of thinking (which are always conveniently and specifically what they personally disagree with) are frowned upon or bannable, some users get preferential treatment over others due to their personal viewpoints/various identities, and the experience overall becomes less about the media the fandom's built around, and more the identity of the individuals in it, or at least the ones who the new people in charge have personal common ground with in particular.

I find myself enjoying things a lot more when it's just shared with a small group of people/friends, and it seems like a lot of those older "dedicated" fans I was talking about feel the same, as when many of them left, they did the same, and honestly I think it's better that way.

If you wanna hand wave what I've said and chalk it up to "elitism, intolerance, or one of the many "isms", more power to you, that's just how I see it.

Don't forget to mention the fact that even after 20 years, they still haven't gotten over their irrational hatred for the 1998 film and the monster that was in it.

Seems pretty true to some regard for me.

I've found plenty of fandoms and communities have their own share of corruption, people just generally being dicks and high school like politics. There's also with how trying to control and prevent it from happening can easily end up with getting some similar results as some people getting better treatment and being left off the hook for terrible things, popularity totem or hierarchy and some mods and admins banning people based on their personal preference rather than if someone broke the agreed-upon rules.

Which honestly explains why schisms of them happen a lot other than when the media that they like does something that is quite polarising.

I think an example of the worst problems fandoms and communities can have is the Sonic fandom with how the Sonic franchise from the beginning had loads of different versions of Sonic media with different characterizations, storylines and tones that it is no wondering how it backfired so horribly with the fanbase. This is on top of how different smaller groups within it start having their own petty politics with one another and within themselves due to how they view what Sonic should be as well as other things that you mentioned.
