As much of a weeb as I am, I guess I should've watched Bebop ages ago but I've been avoiding it for years because I caught a few episodes on adult swim and thought that it didn't live up to the hype. I like it (the 1998 series) but I don't love it like the die-hard fans do. I was actually disappointed that I didn't love it more.

The main problem I have is that the vast majority of episodes are a "bounty of the week". It's like 6 episodes of plot and 20 episodes of filler. Like I wanted to see alot more of Spike, Julia, and Vicious's backstory. I mean, Vicious is built up as this enormous threat, but then he barely has any screentime. Julia even less so. And while I don't have to have eveything spelled out for me, I wanted to see more of Faye's flashbacks as well. Who are her parents? Who were her friends? Who put her in suspended animation? Also, Lin and Shin are never given a backstory or real motivations.

And then there's that ending. So Julia is abruptly killed off just after we barely got to know her and Spike is ambiguously killed off. The end. Felt pretty anticlimatic to me. I mean, I understand why people regard it as a classic, the music and animation alone is gorgeous. And I still want to watch the 2001 movie, but its hard to come by.

Now, let's talk about the Netflix version. I only watched the first episode and I'm not sure if I have the patience to watch the rest. It wasn't the absolute dumpster fire that it could've been but the character designs translate as weird cosplay in live action and I couldn't take Vicious's actor seriously at all.

Also, just heard it got cancelled. See you, space cowboy.
