I'll admit, I was very nervous about the idea of selling at first. But after I heard that Brad, Don, Olivia, and James would continue on with the site, all my worries were put to rest. I think that KYM being part of the Cheezburger network will be great for all.
I could not possibly agree more. The new memeteam rocks, and the site is in good hands :)
Wow, you guys merged with ICHC for a deal in the seven figures? Great. This now means that even scientists can be sell outs.

You're the coolest newfag I've ever met. Oh wait, you're not a newfag.

Only Newfags call others Newfags.

You've been here for 11 months. I've been here for 2 years.

And we have a winner.

I refer you to KYM's post on the subject of the various Fag suffixes.

Only Newfags Say Newfag
As shown in 4chan screenshots, it is evident that those who are the most likely to call others newfags are typically newfags themselves. This idea is further supported by the following Urban Dictionary entry:
A term used by newfags.
Only newfags say “newfag”.

I didn't know about Cheezburger until a few days ago. I actually went on their site and thought "Wow, this is like Know Your Meme. Meh." And I never went back.
I am slightly skeptical. I don't like the idea of sucking up to our new leaders. Their members probably hated us until this happened. I don't want this site to become commercialized either.
Please tell me that submissions to KYM will never end up with a icanhascheezeburger or a MemeBase or any other logo tag stuck on the bottom. I hate when they do that. I've found things I created with their tag on it. I don't care if anyone knows I made something or if anyone else takes it an builds off it and makes their own, I just hate seeing something I made with the MemeBase logo or 9GAG logo stuck to the bottom. Memes belong to no one and to everyone. When the websites I mentioned tag them, it is like they are suddenly the owners of graphics that someone else made. I really pisses me off and icanhascheezeburger and their group are the worst offenders.

I hate that, I agree.

Memes are public property, socialist style.
And they're treating this like capitalism.

I have to say that the KYM/Cheezburger merger can have good potential. Cheezburger fans can learn a lot from the KYM research and KYM can have huge lulz from the Cheezburger meme-related collections.
Meh, honestly, I just think we'll have to wait to see if this is good or bad. I think merging with a more popular site would be pretty good for our popularity, but look at the bright side: At least we didn't merge with 4chan or ED.
Wait… KYM is moveing to Seattle? Will they still be giveing internships?
Because now you are close to where I live now, and Im not passing up the internship deal.

Personally, I'm not working for Cheezburger, even though I live in Seattle again.

Hey Natsuru, KYM staff is not moving to Seattle. But since KYM is Cheezburger, we may open the internship to be in Seattle and/or NY. Stay tuned!
Meh.
I don't give a shit either way.
I'm more here for the community than the memes.
Does this mean KYM will continue to produce KYM episodes?

We're looking for a way to do that, and make sure we can do it for the long-term… not just produce a few episodes and quit.

Umm, who will be doing the episodes from now on?
No. No. That's not true. That's impossible!

The current staff will be involved, but we're also contemplating some of the alumni as well.

You mean like Mike and Patrick?
Guize. I've made a thread of all my answers and will answer questions here: https://knowyourmeme.com/forums/general/topics/9062-im-ben-ceo-of-cheezburger-feel-free-to-ask-me-questions

Look at me, I put my job in jeopardy over toilet paper. (I hope the majority of people who read this post missed that thread, and think I'm joking.)

I'm still not convinced it's a meme hub.
If it hasn't changed since the get-go, our basic definition of a meme hub is a website where a good number of memes are created. From what I've observed so far, Cheezburger doesn't create memes, it documents pre-exisiting ones, two very different things. Any memes that have appeared on the site were already pretty popular elsewhere. I'm just saying that if we go down this path, it seems like documenting the likes of Encyclopedia Dramatica, BuzzFeed, Uncyclopedia, and many other sites where memes constantly appear in will start sounding like a conventional idea.
But, that's just my humble opinion on the matter. The final decision still rests on the Entry Moderator's/Staff Member's shoulders.
I think this has been a longstanding and far from resolved issue within the database, and sine I don't think anyone responded to my ideas about the nature of memes I posted elsewhere, maybe I should start a new thread instead of bringing it up here, but…
I think the database shoule house more than just memes, and we've only scratched the surface. Things that should probably be documented to some extent:
1. Entities that largely serve to propagate existing memes: ICHC, Autotune the News, memegenerator, etc.
2. Entities that frequently create new memetic content: 4chan, YouTube, Japanese culture, etc.
3. Entities in the media that are not memes in themselves, but are the source of multiple memetic constructs: Pulp Fiction, Spongebob Squarepants, Arnold Schwarzenegger, etc.
There are probably many other things that I haven't thought of here that may be useful in understanding and documenting memes.
