The copypasta is missing several punctuation marks. First of all, two asterisks at the beginning: *holds up spork*, a caret at the end: me bein random again ^_^, and two carets in the middle: ppl like me ^_^. This has happened because Textile, markdown, or other formatting standards on various websites have stripped these marks from the text and interpreted them as format marks. The formatting has then been stripped on subsequent copypastes and has been passed down through the generations. It's absolutely rife on reddit and it hurts my soul to see it getting worse every day. The true original copypasta, which can still just about be spotted in google image searches (here is an example: https://2static1.fjcdn.com/comments/Blank+_2e71416fe514ce39b2bfaba2a05cd9a6.jpg) is almost never posted anymore. KYM is in part to blame for this problem! The article has persisted with these errors for years, but I have never gotten around to pointing them out. Now I fear it's almost too late.
