It seems in the last couple of years, meme communities (largely ironic, whatever that means anymore) have taken to awkward and/or stoic pictures of people (and non-human characters) staring directly at the camera in a surreal yet domineering way of demanding the user's attention (an effect similar to that which the T-pose and glowing eyes have).
The following examples aren't just random images I've found but the main images of several meme entries that show what I'm talking about (click on them to see the entries).
.
They're often used as the basis of irony-laden image macros and involve other meme templates like screen-reaching hands and a hand with a gun (which still needs an entry).
Doge looking at the screen in a similar way may have been partly responsible for its ironic resurgence.
.
I don't think this needs an entry, but I wanted to point out this phenomenon. I can't say I fully understand what made memers decide to collectively start using these characters facing the screen, but I get it on a visceral level.
