Obligatory Gundam thread

So… any Gundam fans here? I don't really have a personal favorite series. Wing first introduced me to it, but I've become a fan of most of the timelines since. I'm also an amateur Gunpla builder, mainly HGs and MGs.

Any similar stories or experiences?

I'm hyped for G-Reco, nice to see Tomino back.

I'll probably be long done with Zeta Gundam and into ZZ Gundam by the time this comes out.

also anyone else ever play any of the Dynasty Warriors Gundam games?

Ann made a thread a couple months back about Gundam, there were several users in it I recall. I'm not a diehard, but I do like the series. I need to catch up though, any suggestions on what to watch and avoid?

I think I remember that thread, anyway

I would not recommend starting in the Universal Century timeline when watching online unless you can find a way to watch MSG either online or using the dvd copies or know enough about UC 0079 and then starting with Zeta

I would say if you want to get more into Gundam and don't want to do the above then just start with almost any alternate universe, personally I would not recommend Mobile Fighter, there are a few other more unusual Gundam series but I can't say anything about them considering I haven't seen them.

I'll give G-Reco a look, since I admire Tomino's writing and sense of irony, but honestly, I kind of think the character and mechanical designs look too much like Eureka 7 for me to take this seriously as "Gundam".

I mean, the main machine kind of looks like a hybrid of the Aile Strike, the ELS-ified 00 Quanta, and the Nirvash, complete with the forward-swept V-antennae.

And yes, I have played the Dynasty Warriors Gundam games. They're fun, but… I think they kind of lack substance. destroying MSs loses meaning when you can effortlessly mow down over 1,000 in the course of a single mission. My favorite Gundam game overall has to be Encounters in Space.

On the other hand, if, against all odds, they ever localized Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost, I'd go and get a PS3 tomorrow.

I know how much a PG usually costs, so damn, that has to hurt. You have my sympathies.

The most complex thing I’ve ever put together so far has to be either my MG Epyon or my MG Wing Proto Zero. I’m tempted to try my hand at a Real Grade, but it kind of seems like an accident waiting to happen, what with all those small parts and decals and what-not.

That said, I’m probably going to try my hand at the MG Hi-v Gundam Ver. Ka when it comes out later this year. That magnificent beast looks like it's worth the risk.

Yeah, sadly North America barely gets any of the Gundam games when compared to Japan, I wish they would have localized MSG 00 for the DS (it reminded me of a simplified versison of ZoE).

I don’t think it’s going to get any better.

Bandai Entertainment has pretty much pulled out of the North American market in general. It’s not just the video games, all their DVD releases have been discontinued, and the only reason they bothered to finish localizing Unicorn was because of contract. There were actually plans to give Turn A Gundam a North American release, but that was scrapped a couple of years ago.

Unless another group like Funimation miraculously picks up the license, it’s pretty likely that Unicorn will be the last Gundam to be localized in the U.S.

Which is a damn shame, because I was still holding out a fool’s hope that ZZ would be released here, so that I could finally plug that hole in my collection.

Speaking of ZZ, anyone know where I could watch online? I was planning on watching it since there were a few subs from Daisuki and Gundaminfo, but they have recently made both Zeta and ZZ private and none of my alts for watching Gundam online have ZZ despite having Gundam 0080 and Victory Gundam.

in my opinion you should watch the original first,
as for series that you should avoid, that would be gundam seed, gundam seed destiny and gundam age

Looks good enough, thanks man.

Also, adding to the list of ones that should be avoided, G Gundam isn't the worst but it may be far too campy when compared to the usual Gundam series.

Well I finished Zeta Gundam, I can see why they tried to make ZZ lighter than the other two Gundam series at the time.

Now to finish Cowboy Bebop and Evangelion before I actually start ZZ Gundam.

I found most Gundam related stuff to be kinda boring as a kid mainly because I didn't see much robot action. Then as a teenager, I tried to get into gundam but I had trouble picking a good series to start with since most of the series I started with, I didn't pass episode one. Now, Im watching Gundam Wing mainly to figure out who Zech Merquise is since in the next Death Battle, he's fighting The White Ranger. As of now, I find Gundam to be….oddly interesting but quite slow-paced. No wonder I didn't get it as a kid.

Instead of actually getting farther in Evangelion or Cowboy bebop today I decided to watch Endless Waltz OVA, it was enjoyable.

Also this is old now but did anyone else hear about what they plan to do for the 40th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam?
