I love how the new episode reflects that we shoudnt expect flawless characters in a great story. That the best characters can be some of the most flawed one (which does remind me of the catcher in thr rye, a favourite of mine) I feel that this episode is taking a jab at the fans who are upset at Pearl for her past actions. I guess my theory that the writers hate Pearl has been debunked :3 hahaha.

There's no doubt its a homage to utena. I just hope nobodies calling it anything beyond a homage.

Anyhow. I'm going to make a point based on no information of future episodes and such. So no spoilers need be worried about here. This is pure speculative yarn-spinning.

I've been noticing a pretty big surge, at least fan wise, for pearl "going psycho" on peridot and shattering her gem. I guess cause its an easy scenario to write for the whole "gone too far over the edge" type scene.

One thing I don't like though, is how much it makes everything one sided, in order to I guess drive home the moral nail of what fandom-dark-pearl has done. I like the idea of pearl and peridot going at it 1 on 1, but honestly? I think that encounter would end in peridot winning.

Reason being is that we've seen some evidence that there's more to peridot then we've been shown. Her ability to neutralize Amethyst whips, to run up the walls without a problem, and of course surviving a very heavy object falling on top of her undamaged, a feat not even Sugilite walked away from, hints that peridot is a lot stronger then we think. So why hasn't she wiped the floor with the crystal clods by now?

Simple. She can't win against all of them at once, and she knows it. The crystal gems always travel together whenever they deal with her, and she knows that against all 3, or even all 2, she'd be outmatched. But we have never seen her in a situation, where it was a 1 on 1 fight. It's why she asks steven first if the others are with him, beyond a simple funny line. I think that she could take on Amathyst or Pearl if Garnet or Steven weren't around to stop her, and the other one wasn't around to help out.

The thought that Peridot is a capable fighter, but a coward who'd only fight if she knew she could win, is one I think could have potential in the future. Her fighting Pearl and beating Pearl could also be something of a turning point to drive home the fact that the Gems need to fight together, or they'll lose. The crystal gems can handle a lot, but them on their own and by themselves can't stand nearly as much a chance.

Plus I'm gettin kind sick of Pearl the Death-Non-Eater.

Honestly, i'm more sick of people calling Pearl a salty bitch. So i'll take yandere Pearl anyday.

Newest episode where everything is okay. For once. Just gotta wait for the last bomb. And God knows it's going to smack me hard in the feels, then curb stomp my heart. Unless it ends on a light note then:

You know, with how angry the fandom is getting at Pearl right now it's almost as if everyone just forgot Amethyst was in the same boat for a while. Remember when Amethyst hate was trendy? Good times. You see, guys, the writers don't just hate on one character and shit of them all the time. They hate all their characters equally

I don't think Peridot Is strong, but what you said made me think that if Peridot where to face 1 vs. 1 against Pearl in the current situation, she might win, but not due to be stronger, but due to pearl being unfocused and making mistakes due to all the emotional weight she carries, leading to Peridot outwitting and defeating her.

Samekichi Kiseki wrote:

The Amethyst hate was strongest just after "Maximum Capacity" when Amethyst formed into Rose to torment Greg. It was a pretty fucked up moment, and a lot of people took it as their chance to hate on Amethyst as hard as they could.

I think that her emotional weight is lighter after Historical Friction.

That was a pretty good episode. Pearl and Garnet finally made up, we got to see Steven using his shield more (Though he seemed exhausted after "3 shields in one day!") and the big line-drop "I'm just a Pearl…" confirms that she is indeed only one out of MANY pearls, and that she can't really do anything without recieving orders from someone, but it was nice to see Peridot's "weapon" being a megaman-type blaster.

Also, Steven being useful in missions gives me life.

I like how this episode had Peridot(dorrito head) in it and it pretty much developed more around Pearl and Garnet's character. I really there's a follow up to the this episode, don't you agree?

Also I kinda want a Peridot gif flying away with Dr. Claws dubbed over it. Haha.

"DIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIE!!!"

In this episode Pearl was desperate to regain Garnet's trust, and it negatively affected her performance and decisions. In the end at least they were are to make up, with positive words of encouragement from Garnet.

Peridot was still being her entertaining self, wearing enough plot-armor to last two encounters while being outnumbered. It was also revealed that her weapon is a handcannon, something you'd see in Megaman.

It would also appear that Steven's shield has limited uses for now.

So here is the conclusion to the S-Bomb 3. It looks like the headcanons of Pearl being part of mass-produced servant caste, and Peridot being Peri-palegic are all but confirmed.

Peridot redemption never ever.

Well, glad everything turned out fine between Pearl and Garnet.

Peridot confirmed to be able to detach limbs, could be interesting in the future.

Peridot also seems eager/willing to destroy the gems, but not Steven (flicking him and whatnot). Maybe because she knows he's different and wants to study him?

Pearl [going to call her unit 375 from here on because it might get confusing otherwise] specifically said "A pearl" so that pretty much confirms that there are multiples of the gems, or at least Pearls. (But everyone already is saying that.)

I read somewhere that pearls can represent loyalty, which definitely seems to be the case with [unit 375] and partially explains her fascination with Rose and to an extent, Steven.

Since pearls can be artificially made here, why not on Homeworld? They could be made in a different process to actual gems, and perhaps have no mind of their own, just follow the orders of whoever they're meant to be loyal to.

"Defective Pearl" could refer to a Pearl, like the ones on Earth, that aren't formed properly (i.e. the ones that have minds of their own and/or are the wrong shape; bumpy, non-iridescent or oval-shaped, instead of round, like [unit 375])

So now we know that Peridot's limbs are detachable and robotic, and that her weapon is the first non-melee one we've so far seen, and unlike the other gems this one was not summoned from the gem but made from her fingers. It might not actually be her innate weapon at all.

It's easy to overlook just how weird Peridot is, physically, compared to the other gems we've seen.

I am starting to wonder if Peridot's body is a prosthetic – as in, whether she has been mostly disassembled and given new limbs to maximize her technical usefulness. It would play into Homeworld's general disregard for the bodily integrity of their subjects (see: "Keeping it Together") and makes Peridot something like a super-extreme version of Pearl, a version where even her body can be molded to better suit the needs of her masters.

One quirk of this would be that it would give Peridot an avenue towards redemption. First of all, if she is of a similar social place as pearls, then her detachment from her masters might send her into a Pearl-like panic spiral. She may have to learn to think for herself, and that would lead to some weird character development.

What I really want to see, though, is what would happen if Peridot got poofed, and what she would look like when she came back. If my hunch is correct, if she poofed, she would leave all of her prosthetics behind, and would re-form with a fully gem body like what she had prior to the treatment. Perhaps she would even have to have her limbs amputated again in order to regain her robotic parts?

For all we know, Peridot could be as much a victim of Homeworld as she is a perpetrator herself.

You said "…and to an extent, Steven"
Are you one of those types that believe Pearl only sees Steven as Rose, or only loves him as an extension of Rose?
God that episode was so perfect! Action! Comedy! Drama! It has everything! it quickly switches gears withouth damaging the other parts (very often adding comedy too quickly can cheapen the drama). It's unusual for a Steven Universe episode to be so fast paced, but everything here was so perfect! I could make an etire list of everything that I liked about this episode, but it would be too long. But I guess that the most important part is not only Pearl and Garnet making up, but also Pearl finally recognizing her flaws, how she is so dependant on others, and receiving those important word of encouragement from Garnet. I think that Pearl's character hitted her rock bottom during "Cry for Help" and now, after all this, it's finally time for her to go uphill.

In a more funny note, When Peridot blowed the roof and was preparing to escape, she for some reason reminded me of Dr. Willy. Man Peridot it's like a walking (flying?) Megaman reference.

@Black Graphic T: So, you were right, Peridot is in fact stronger than we thought, it's just that she is an absolute coward.

@Matau, Toa of Air: This is wild guessing, but maybe she is afraid her weapons won't work on Steven? (like the disruptor)

P. D: Do you think the next time we seee Peridot she is going to be hopping on a leg?

Zaccharine wrote:

I meant that she doesn't seem as fascinated with Steven as she does Rose. She loves Steven for being Steven, but isn't obsessed with him in the same way she is/was with Rose. (Romantic/Loyal vs Mother/Friend)

Peridot started out as this cold, super-scary alien whose very presence endangered Earth. Then, when Steven went and talked to her, the danger levels went even higher. When she came with the hand-ship, she was max danger, until Jasper out-stepped her. Ever since Jasper, she got outdone by the Cluster and the 6,000 year old gems who made it, and in the last episode, she went full James-Bond/Saturday-Morning-Cartoon Villain. I now hope she doesn't make any more appearances unless she's going ba ck to hide under Yellow Diamond's skirts, or if she's going to get interrogated by the Crystal Gems. I realize this is exactly what Rebecca Sugar wants me to think. Sure.

I want Malachite to come out of the ocean. Wouldn't it be convenient if Malachite came out of the ocean right as Yellow Diamond paid the Earth a visit?

I'm gonna have to say i'm somewhat disapointed with the finale. I'm not gonna go into full detail right now since i cant really do it at this moment but i felt that the writers were creating too much build up only to let it fall down at the last episode, and since Friend Ship is only 11 minutes, the finale imo felt really rushed. I'm not saying the episode was bad, i just feel that it was too short as a conclusion.

Who said anything about this being the "Finale". The thing about these steven bombs is they're not finale episodes. They're just episodes in the middle of the season, that are put into bundles and aired in a row.

Technically, we still got Super Watermelon Island and Gem Drill before the finale Barn Mates. And that's assuming Barn Mates is even the final episode and not just the limit of what we know.

Season 1 was 49 episodes. This season will only be at 21 once Barn Mates airs.

I mean the finale of the arc. I know the season is not over yet but overall, stevenbomb 3 did not really meet my expectations.

You have to consider that there are like 100 more episodes they can do.

I realize my previous post is a bit confuding because i want to keep it spoiler free and that im typing with my cellphone on a shitty internet connection. So i'll keep it short.

My disapointment is at Stevenbomb 3. I know that there are gonna be more episodes after this and i know CN has renewed the series for a third season.

So here's something I was wondering: has anyone heard of there being any backlash to Steven Universe by the pearl-clutching "concerned parents" crowd? Because I'd be legitimately surprised if having multiple canon gay couples in your kids show could go by without pissing off at least some of them. Or has the show managed to get away with being this good without triggering any of the usual nonsense?

So I just realized that the whole birthting video scene from Onion friend is actually a very clever brick joke. If you rmember, back in Onion trade, there's a scene where Steven runs to Greg and says "I lost something… something precious" and Greg responds "(Gasp) Your innocence?" Now, in that episode, what steven lost (the cowboy guy) was stolen by Onion, and the episode focused on Onion. Now, fast forward to Onion friend and… Steven did lost his innocence (not all of it, but he cannot unsee that). In a episode about Onion. That has a very similar name. I don't know if it's intentional, but if that's the case, it's very clever.

I have honestly heard nothing that big about any sort of backlash towards the show. If it is happening, it's not hitting the major news circuits or even scum-filled clickbait sites like gawker, buzzfeed, salon or vox.

So far, all is quite on the beach city front.

That's what I've been seeing. I mean, that petition that was linked only has 41 signatures right now – which is kind of pathetic.

This is a good thing: it means that TV writers will know they can get away with having LGBT characters with little backlash, and so we'll continue seeing them.

But it just feels . . . eerie, very much a "quiet, too quiet" situation. I so thoroughly expected there to be a shitstorm that not seeing one makes me feel as though it's still happening, but out of sight.

Yeah, with the crazy conservatives that America has, it's strange no one has raised a little moral crusade against the show. Still, Better not look this gift horse in the mouth. No one has raised any major objections, so that's a good thing.

By the way, you guys should check Havesomemoore's tumblr. I was wondering why he hadn't posted a comic about "friend ship" and now the answer is up: It's because he was busy making it 5 pages long.

At the moment, gay marriage has just been legalized nationwide, so either the concerned conservative mommies are too busy fighting on that front, or they are too depressed from suffering that "defeat", that they really don't care if two alien girls make out. (Since, of course, only like one of the humans in that show is actually homosexual.)

And as far as the overall tone of the media is concerned, they have been gradually phasing out any outrage-bait based on traditional conservative morality, and instead, they are now focused on using progressive morality to milk outrage from the public.

For those of you that remember that I posted on this thread earlier, saying that I started watching Steven Universe, I'm now at Episode 35. And…after "Mirror Gem", I'm now completely hooked onto the show. So thank you, SU fans on KYM, because your love over this show is what got me curious to see it!

So nice to see the fandom continue to grow in numbers.

Speaking of which, I just got one of my friends into SU last night. We only watched like the first 4 episodes, but she seemed to really enjoy it and I think she will likely continue watching on her own. I have had "Let Me Drive My Van (Into Your Heart)" stuck in my head all day. It's a blessing and a curse.

@Platus: Seeing how of all the children's networks out there, CN seems to give the least amount of shits about what soccer moms have to say, I would imagine even if there are people complaining then CN would probably not pay them much attention.

So, Friend Ship was a pretty frikin good episode, but I actually don't have much speculation for it. I'm getting kinda sick of the people trying to redeem Peridot, though. Can't a villain just be a villain?

I am severely disappointed by the lack of Connie in this bomb, by the way. Shame on you, writers. I also wished Malachite made another appearance or was even mentioned (especially with how dissatisfied I personally was with the ending of Chille Tid) but I guess this was just a very Peridot-focused arc. Hopefully she is not gone for too much longer. Do we have dates for when the next episodes are airing? I don't think my heart can take waiting for another bomb.

If you have Photoshop CS6 then it should be easy.

  • Just download the YT vid as mp4
  • start up Photoshop
  • go to the windows tab
  • bring out your timeline
  • Then go to the files tab
  • Import>Video Frames to Layers
  • Select a range and drag the little arrows. You might want to limit it to every 2 layers to make the file small
  • You could tweak up the speed in the timeline you opened
  • Once you're done head to files tab again
  • Save For Web
  • Tweak it some more if you wish. Tumblr won't play gifs larger than 1MB

If my instruction summary is messed up maybe this site explains it better.

btw I only noticed now they made the blade pink in that vid nice
