2. Lapis joining the Crystal Gems
3. Pearl and Garnet fusion
4. The Steven properly meeting Ruby and Sapphire episode
5. The connection between Rose and Lion/The gem in Lion's mane

Rose became a part of Steven, but Steven can't seem to access her memories, could Lion be the physical embodiment of Rose's memories? He seems to keep secrets for Rose, or at least important parts of her life (the flag, CDs, Mr. Universe t-shirt) And he doesn't show a lot of emotion (though that might just be because he's a cat.) Maybe Lion's a by-product of Rose preventing Steven from having her memories>

Something I noticed while re-watching "The Return" (because oh my god why haven't you people staged an intervention?!): when Greg is telling Steven about what happened in the Gem War, he says "gems were destroyed, people too."

So I wonder, were these just people who happened to get caught in the crossfire, or were there early humans participating in the war?

This actually might change the image we have of it, which so far has just been gems fighting each other with humans on the sidelines. We know that the gems can train humans into competent fighters – like Pearl did with Connie – and certainly having a bunch of extra foot-soldiers would have given Rose an advantage. It's certainly going to be interesting to see, once we get a clearer picture of what the war was like, who those people who were destroyed were, and why they were involved.

Edit: also, I recently learned that "Maheswaran" is Hindi for "Lord of the Universe," which is neat.

How "smart" were humans 6000 years ago, though? Maybe some did take up arms and others were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Well, In-Universe, alternate history seems to be at play, so nothing is sure; but in real life, 6000 years ago would be around 4000 B. C. Around this time, Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt were becoming full fledged civilizations, but where still very far away from being empires. This is pretty much the point where pre-history ends and history begins.

I wouldn't be surprised if this opens up the posibility of an atlantis style ancient super advenced human civilization, which in a plot thread straight out of history channel, flourished only due to aliens.

So, the first episode's title has been revealed as…

Cry for Help; Reformed. Either that or the episode is titled Cry for Help, and Reformed is just airing after.

That TV Guide listing is for the whole 30 minute block, so yeah "Reformed" is just a rerun they're airing after the new episode.

And yeah, incoming feels.

Edit: also, something recently occurred to me. I have seen people mention that some of the sword fights in "Steven the Sword Fighter" and "Sworn to the Sword" are basically shot-for-shot reproductions of fights in Revolutionary Girl Utena, but for the life of me I haven't been able to find any kind of comparison, and I can't really go through every fight in Utena just to see the ones that match up (well, I can, I just don't want to). Has anyone seen anything that I haven't?

Edit edit: also, I just found an interview with one of the show's storyboarders. Neat stuff.

Last edited Jun 30, 2015 at 06:43PM EDT

That was an interesting Mary Sue article. Somehow, having a storyboard artist that is interested in body horror work on the show is very fitting

that kids’ cartoon about a young boy with many mothers

Well, that's one way of describing the show I guess.

I wasn't aware that there were certain parts of the fandom that bashed on certain writers/stroyboard artists. People are so silly. It's kinda like the brony fandom and the way they relentlessly bashed on every episode that had Merriweather Williams' name tied to it.

And now the same site has revealed the name of the next episode that week.

It's "Keystone Motel."

I have no idea what this might mean.

Also, according to Sugar's AMA, Pearl would be a fan of a song called "Graceful Ghost Rag." So how about we give it a listen? (It's nice.)

Ooooo new episode title?

So the title "Cry for Help" seems pretty self explanatory. Obviously it will pertain to a character being in distress and calling for assistance in the form of a wailing noise. Which character will be making said noise is up for speculation. Lapis would be my first guess as she is under so much stress keeping Malachite together that she may give up and try to contact Steven through his dreams for help. It could also be a character development episode for any one of the crystal gems, as they all seem to have very dark and mysterious origins and we can all wait for the feels train to hit us like a nuclear bomb.

I'm way more interested in the title "Keystone Motel" though. At first I was just as confused about the meaning as Platus was, but with my amazing skills of overthinking things I may have come up with a theory. So, keystone is a term commonly used in architecture when referring to the piece that is at the apex of a stone arch. Its most notable characteristics being that it's considered the most important piece of the arch. the piece locks the rest of the stones in place and the arch basically can't sustain itself without it, but the keystone also bears the least amount of stress compared to the other stones supporting the archway. I feel an analogy could easily be made between a keystone and Steven. Obviously we're getting a lot of "chosen one" vibes coming from Steven, even if we don't know exactly what he is important for yet. But it's also notable that he has the least amount of baggage compared to the other gems, or hell even the other characters period. This has been a big part of Steven's character since pretty much the beginning, and instead of having his innocence and positivity corrupted it could end up being an essential part to resolving the big conflict. So there you go, Steven is the "keystone" referred to in the title.

But what about the "Motel" part of the title? Well, we know motel is short for "motorist hotel" so this might be a clue that Greg is a part of this story (you know, with his van and all that). Possibly the "motel" part of the title could be pretty literal. I imagine maybe Steven and Greg went on a road trip for some father-son bonding and are staying at a motel for the night when the episode takes place. While at the motel, Greg decides to tell Steven another story about Rose. Perhaps it is about how Steven came about? Maybe even taking place during Rose's pregnancy? Or perhaps it could be more focused on Steven and be about when he was a baby. I'm kinda hesitant to believe it's another flashback episode as we just had one with "We Need to Talk" but at the same time this is the only direction my brain wants to take this right now.

So apparently, Monday's episode is Cry for Help., Tuesday's episode is Keystone Motel, Wednesday's episode is Onion Friend, Thursday's episode is Historical Friction, and Friday's episode haven't been revealed.

Lemme just say Graceful Ghost Rag is beautiful. On an unrelated note, how do you all feel about Rose? You think Steven was a planned move to screw Homeworld over?

Come on, guys, I should not have to keep telling you to spoiler everything having to do with new SU content, even things like new titles or episode descriptions. Seriously, there is someone in the thread who has barely gotten past Jail Break, cool your jets.

If I have to keep reminding everyone every time new info comes up I'm going to start giving out warnings and suspensions if necessary.

So to mention something I didn't get to mention in Keeping it Together, does anyone else love how in the beginning of the episode Steven was trying to convince Garnet to unfuse for silly reasons just like when he was trying to get Pearl and Amethyst to fuse into Opal?
"I bet all this folding would get done faster if Ruby and Sapphire were here"

All I wanna do
Is see you turn into
Two little women
Two little women

Steven, you are a precious soul. Too pure for this world.

Beautiful crystal gem, too good for this world, too pure.

Also, if anyone is interested, here is some of the sheet music for "Do it for Her":

Platus wrote:

Oh, so here's a thing I noticed while I was watching the opening theme for the twentieth an unspecified number of times:

Where exactly are they here? We can see the moon in the background, and then the earth on top – they appear to be in some kind of space platform high above the world. The only other time I can remember them being that high up is at the end of "Ocean Gem" when they are on Lapis's water tower, but that's gone now. For a while, I thought they were at the Galaxy Warp, but I re-watched its first appearance (at the start of "Space Race") and it's clearly on Earth.

But even more unsettling is that moon. I mean, look at the shadow – that is not a normal eclipse. It's too irregular, with some sort of L-shaped object obscuring part of it, rather than the smooth curved line you see on its shadow normally. Why would they add that little error?

I mean, at this point I might be paranoid, but I wouldn't put it past the writers to hide some foreshadowing in the new theme. They did, after all, allude to Ruby and Sapphire in the opening bit of the pilot. Clearly, they are not above trickery. And what better way to screw with us than to hide some major thing in one of the first moments of the new theme?

The logo of the laptop has the same shape as the moon's eclipse.

So I finally managed to introduce those friends of mine to the show. We ended up watching Giant Woman, Sworn to the Sword, Garnet's Universe, and On the Run. Results were "I liked it way more than I expected to" and "it's really endearing." I shall call that a success.

Also, I noticed something: when Jasper said that Pearl was "defective," she might have meant it literally. Pearls are supposed to be spherical, but when Pearl poofs, we can clearly see that it's egg-shaped. If you handed it to a jeweler, they might in fact call it "defective" (though probably still valuable considering how big it is). I wonder if that's going to be relevant.

This short popped up on Cartoon Network site a while back. As of now, available in non-Americas on YouTube near you. It looks like one of those trivia thingies some animes, like the latest HxH, have.

I already seen that on the TV Tropes thread, along with some thread simulators

@Platus: I'm not so sure that's entirely true about pearls. Pearls come in quite the variety of natural shapes and colors (in fact, one of the pearls in the image for the wikipedia article looks just like Pearl's gem). I'm not entirely sure what a jeweler would consider "defective" in a pearl but I'm not entirely sure this counts

@Short: That video was incredibly adorable. And it's just another example of SUs huge amount of anime influence. It kinda reminds me of the shorts that were at the end of D.Gray-Man episodes and the Mameshiba shorts.

Soooooo, I have more observations to make! This time from Keeping it Together. So, you know that horrific monstrosity that keeps millions of fans up at night?

Yeah, that one. So I noticed this the first time I watched it but didn't think much of it until now, but do you notice that purple leg off to the left? It looks a lot like Amethyst's leg, doesn't it? It's the same color and has the same boot on it. This makes me wonder if this supports the "multiple gems" theory that there's more than one Amethyst, Pearl, etc. Or it could just be a coincidence. Who knows?

So this conversation just popped into my head:

A: Hey, what if Pearl was secretly a fusion?
B: But she doesn't have a second gem.
A: So then I guess she'd be two birds with one stone!

. . . . I'll see myself out.

Hooray, another theory from me! Anyways, just gonna pop in a spoiler for this one because of how late in Chille Tid this theory is. Granted, I have barely anything to support it, but hey. Just some food for thought and all that.

So anyways, we all know that "you you" scene in the Malachite realm, right? If not, I'll just pop a picture in.

Anyways, look at that buff cheeto rage! But here's where the theory comes in. What if Jasper wasn't actually trying to get to Steven because of the earlier mentioned cheeto rage, but because she was trying to reach out for his help? What if, after they fused, Lapis became the "abusive" one in the fusion, and not Jasper?

The thought of Jasper actually asking for help has popped up in my mind, but she just seemed so mad…
Not spoilering cause it's been two weeks since Chille Tid.

Well guys, we are almost there! I don't know you, but this hiatus wasn't so bad as the last one in my opinon.

One thing that doesn't leave my mind:

Black Pearls are a thing. Just imagine if they actually brought this as a furture character; would it be just a dark version of pearl? Or something more complex?

This begs the question as to why there isn't more Steven Universe / Pirates of the Caribbean crossover art.

“Dark Version of Pearl” instantly made Persona 4’s “I’ll face myself” come on full blast in my mind.

Shadow Pearl: I hate you, Steven. You took away the one thing I loved most in this whole world. Rose sacrificed herself, and we may never see her again. Just so something like you could take her place.

Pearl: N-No…That isn’t what I think! I’d never say something so evil! You don’t know anything about me or rose!

Shadow Pearl: But I do. I am You! I’m everything you’re too much of a coward to say out loud!

Pearl: That isn’t true! You are nothing like me!

Shadow Pearl: ‘Evil Laugh’ Come now. There’s no reason to lie. Rose meant the world to me. And Steven’s nothing like her. He’s the reason rose is gone, and I hate him for it!

Pearl: Stop It Now! You’re Not Me!!!

Shadow Pearl: That’s right. I’m me now. And the first thing I’m going to do is get rose back!

Cue Shadow Transformation

Shadow Pearl: I am the Shadow…The True Self! I’ll poof that half-human freak out of this world! Then rose is sure to come back!

Ya know, I've been curious about Sugilite. Other fusions like Garnet and Stevonnie have both of their fused things's personalities intact and able to communicate with each other, so why does Sugilite have her own personality and go on rampages?

Maybe Amethyst took over, but not like the whole Malachite thing where they're struggling the entire time. Garnet was probably sitting back, letting Amethyst do her own thing.

Maybe there was some point sugilite was mantianed for a very long time, and because of that created its own personality.

Maybe its forshadowing for what's gonna happen to Malachite.

I always assumed it's because they'd been fused for too long. Garnet, for the most part, has her own personality distinct from Ruby's and Sapphire's, and the only time we've seen them interact through their fusion is immediately after she split up in 'Keeping it Together'.

I think the Gems might have an easier time with fusing their personalities(as Opal, Sugilite, and Garnet seem to keep it together) but Steven and Connie might have trouble because they'd never fused before.
