Well, you should easily start with the first part of course. The first part, Phantom Blood, started somewhere in the late 80s. Personally, I never read the early parts of the manga (specifically 1 and 2); instead I watched the first season of the anime.

Is this the answer you're looking for?

I specifically meant the anime. Do I need to watch the 1993 series, followed by the 2000 series and then the 2012 series? And as far as Phantom Blood is concerned, should I watch the anime movie before starting the tv series or is it more of a spinoff. And finally, where does the Stardust Crusader series fit in? I tried figuring this out myself but its very difficult to do when also trying to avoid spoilers.

Oh, sorry that I misinterpreted what you meant. The 1993 and 2000 series are actually an OVA regarding the third part, Stardust Crusaders. The 1993 episodes cover the later half of part 3, and the 2000 episodes covering the first half: the two make up a single OVA series. It should be noted that the OVA has no actual relation to the current anime. The same goes for the movie, and is, from what I hear, relatively short (I haven't watched the movie, you're better off asking someone else on that).

The current anime that started in 2012 and has been going on since so far has three seasons, the first season with part 1, then to part 2. The second and current season follow part 3. If you really want to start from the beginning, just start with the first season of the current anime.

TL;DR: Start with the 2012 anime, and just keep going from there. You don't have to watch the old OVA (1993 and 2000 series) or the movie (which I guess is kind of a spin off).

Did that cover everything, or are you still kinda confused?

Alright, that should be enough to get me started. Thanks for helping me out!

Yup Iggy takes a while for most to warm up to, hell even the other crusaders say that about him, but as things go on he develops a pretty interesting personality. Of course not everyone likes the same things so maybe he might not suit your interest, but give it some time.

looks like Lisa and Crimea got it but for future reference I'll do a quick summary of the series for anyone else who wants to get into it.

The manga started in 1987 and has 8 parts to date. There have been 2 OVA series and a movie which were adaptations of the manga unrelated to the current anime series. The movie covers part one but doesn't follow the manga very well and leaves out some characters, Even Speedwagon! It received almost universally poor reception and was never released on video. The 1993 OVA series covers the second half of part 3, after they arrive in Egypt. It's fast paced and leaves out a lot of the battles and changes details, and expects you to know the backstory. The 2001 OVA series was made by the same studio as the 1993 one and serves as a backstory for it. It covers the first half of part 3, and just like the other OVA it leaves out a lot and changes a few things.

The Anime that started in 2012 is an unrelated adaptation of the manga that so far has covered parts 1 – 3, and will probably feature the other parts too. Season 1 covers parts 1 and 2, while season 2 and 3 cover the first and second half of part 3.

TL:DR – The OVAs were attempts to adapt the manga and weren't very accurate, the 2012 anime follows the manga closely and is unrelated to the OVAs.

I caught up!!

tbh the last two episodes were 3000x more entertaining than the whole SC arc, but I guess that's understandable. I remain not a super fan of the dog, but slightly more sympathetic. I am developing a crush on Jotaro.

What day of the week does this air/did I make it in time for the finale?

@lisalombs

If you're caught up, then the finale's this Friday. After that, consider moving on to the manga, with Part 4 (my favorite part so far).

Yes gentlemen. it is indeed Friday. The final Friday as a matter of fact… so lets get ready for the grand finale of Stardust Crusaders.

Lets keep our eyes peel for any possible future part cameos because, while not yet officially announced, the likelihood of another part seems pretty high.

So hyped

Jotaro VA sounds like a Speedwagon tier bro! A person who i would invite for a beer anytime.
And damn, Dio's VA sound like he is still in character. These pity questions not amuse him.

Btw thanks for the pics ShiJo!

Stardust Crusaders, much fun like Gurren Lagann.
90000000000/10, would watch it again and again and again and again and again and again and-

I'm honestly curious how the other Parts are, 'cause of Stardust Crusaders being awesome and stuff. I'm REALLY curious, about how good they are.

Well, the next part is considered a favorite by many, including the author himself. If you're really interested in how the other parts are, I'd suggest you proceed with the manga. Many have their favorite parts, and certainly no part gets too trivial. Just don't expect every subsequent part after Part 3 to be like Part 3.

TL;DR Read the manga, your mileage may vary.

Holy shit, everything about this episode. Especially road roller.

Reading about behind the scenes of Stardust Crusaders makes me happy for the voice actors. They had so much fun together.

Well guys, that was a majestic adaptation, I'd say it's even better than the original manga, after all these years we had all these iconic scenes animated!

Anyways, I bring somewhat good news, someone asked the official JoJo anime twitter : "Please! Tell me there will be a Part 4 anime! Even if it's a lie!" (Well, something like that)
And the anime twitter answered: "I'm not going to lie, everyone at the staff want a part 4 anime too, so any game or package, please support us even if it's just a bit!"
I realize the translations aren't exact so I'll leave a link just in case, but that's pretty much what it said

Congrats Lisa that's quite the impressive binge watch. That's about 73 episodes in a week or two? At any rate the final is indeed this Friday so sit back and enjoy the ROAD ROLLER DA.

shhhhhhhhh for some reason everybody here thinks I'm not a weeb so I'm trying to roll with it as long as I can.

That finale felt like it was over in five minutes. Can't say anything about my fav scenes from the manga being great, but I think I will start reading at Part 4 since everyone says it's so good.

I feel like I understand a lot of the internet 100x better having now watched this series.

Watch out for the infamous badly translated Part 4 scans. Although they do have some level of charm due to their infamy for example:

Still if you enjoy watching the anime vs reading the manga, give it 2 weeks before you do as they will likely announce a part 4 adaptation by then. If not, enjoy the most fabulous Jojo Josuke(the first one not the second one who has the same name, but is from a later part).

2 question for all of you:

Which part was the most bizarre and what was the saddest scene in entirety of JoJo?

imo Stone Ocean and Avdol and Iggy's death. That scene got me hard

@Tupolev

So far, the most bizarre part would probably be part 6, at least with how far I've read, though to my knowledge, parts 7 and 8 are plenty bizarre. As for the saddest scene, at the moment it'd probably be the aftermath of the Vanilla Ice fight, especially with the way the anime handled it. Again, I'm sure if I was fully caught up, I'd maybe identify something from the later parts.

Bizarre? It HAS to be part 6, it's almost impossible to top stands like Limp Bizkit (Invisible Zombies!) Weather Report, Marilyn Manson and Bohemian Rhapsody, JoJolion is close just for the whole beetlemania stuff

Saddest scene? This is a hard one, but I'd say is part 7 when

Gyro dies and his ghost appears, but what kills me is the aftermath, while Johnny is on the ship, looks at the steel ball and says "Let's go home" overall part 7 has tons of sad moments for me, also special mention to Kakyoin's death in the anime which was very well done and really sad

Has ther been rumors floating regarding the part 4 adaptation?

There have been rumors, like the directors / producers / I forget who visiting the town Morioh is based off of, and the fact that they'd be fucking idiots if they didn't adapt it. As it stands, nothing is confirmed, but it's safe to say there's a good chance of it happening.

I heard they said something like "Sorry guys, it's just a vacation" when asked about that.
They have also stated (at a separate point) that they want to make an adaptation, but whether or not they will depends on how viable it is profit-wise (which they're basing on Blu-ray/DVD and merchandise sales)

Just finished watching the anime. I have to say, Startdust Crusaders was probably my least favorite part, mostly because it's almost like they completely forgot about hamon as soon as stands were introduced. And speaking of stands, I really felt like they were added completely out of the blue. I at least expected some kind of hand-wave explanation on how they were related to hamon or something like that but there was nothing. I also found it kinda strange how in the very first episode they mention how if your breathing is cut off then your stand fades, but then completely forgot about that as well. There were several points where characters would be cut off from breathing yet their stand would be perfectly functioning. But anyway, that's all pretty nit-picky stuff. I still enjoyed SC a lot, I just didn't like it as much as parts 1 and 2 (because Joseph is best Jojo).

I suppose I'll start reading the manga now, since it goes so much farther than the anime and will really just be more amazingness.

Well, the whole stand being related to hamon thing didn't really exist until an off-hand remark in a weird side-chapter in part 7, it was just its own seperate thing, and the whole thing with your breathing being cut off may just indirectly mean that it requires your focus, and it's pretty hard to focus when someone's choking the life out of you, though I'm sure if you're desperate enough you can keep it out anyway.
Joseph is indeed best Jojo.

I always though Stands were a great addition, for me, Hamon was perfected with Joseph, can't get any better than that, Stands do progressively get more and more creative uses as the series progresses (i.e. Crazy Diamond, Sticky Fingers and Stone Free)

Araki couldn't use Hamon anymore (or rather, wasn't allowed to) so he developed Stands.

Wait, why wasn't he allowed to use hamon anymore? And if that's the case then why are there a couple scenes in SC where Joseph uses hamon?

To my knowledge, it wasn't that Araki couldn't use hamon anymore, but rather he couldn't do a whole lot with it anymore. I guess he got stumped trying to write more fights with hamon, and instead came up with the concept of stands as a result. Personally, I kinda wish Araki did more with hamon (maybe combine the concepts of hamon and stands more), but stands are what ultimately led JoJo into popularity, and stand battles do certainly become more interesting after Stardust Crusaders.

Holy fucking shit, I just came back to this, it's actually happening

The ending has to be Pink Floyd! Any song will do! My money is on "Shine on you Crazy Diamond"
