Bottom Butte, was terrible. There wasn't anything funny in it, the jokes (if there were any) didn't make me laugh, things just happened and characters just did things without any context, it felt rushed. No one had any personality other than slightly stupid and selfish. Everything in that pilot just happened. I seriously could go on about how bad this was. I can't see any kids liking it either, it's just boring.
But Apple and Onion, that was genuinely funny. Maybe I am biased because I think Richard Ayoade is great (also what is it with these pilots getting IT Crowd actors, the first one was Matt Berry as the Butt Witch last year). But yeah, the characters were likeable and some of the humour was simple but funny. It was actually the opposite to Bottom Butte, it had direction. There were explanations that wasn't just exposition. I want to see more.
Yeah Apple and Onion's my favorite of the two as well. Bottom Butte feels like Minty Lewis was trying to capture some of the weirdness aspect of Regular Show but doesn't quite have all the positive qualities of her fellow writers.
I will say though I'm noticing a trend lately with "food as main characters." Disney XD has this show on there called "Pickle and Peanut" and IIRC Nickelodeon also has a show with a talking Banana as a main character.
Bottom Butte could be good if Lewis were to bring on some of her fellow Regular Show writers to help out, but Apple and Onion's already got some of the positive aspects from Gendi's work on Gumball (namely likable characters and making a weird concept interesting).
The pink goat one was fucking awful
The apple and onion one was actually pretty charming and funny.
First one sucked.
Second one was good.
Yeah Apple and Onion is going to win in a landslide.
I don't really watch Cartoon Network, but Apple and Onion was really charming. I will definately keep an eye out for it in the future.
Both were pretty ehh overall, and felt really "been there, seen that". The only things I liked were apple and onion's voices, its not often you get english/british accents for the main characters of an american cartoon, and some of the character designs in bottom's butte were ok. Other than that, I wouldn't really care if they both get dropped.
Apple and Oinon by far, the holdup scene made me laugh
am i the only one who found really funny how sociopathic and empathy lacking the characters from Bottom Butte were for a few of the jokes? like the idea of someone causing a pandemic and then becoming a doctor just to cash in on sick people's insurance satisfies my dark humor bone.
if they made the characters disregard consequence for short term personal gain, or just look into what tragedy they can cash in, throw some dumbed down venture bros characterization and plot progression and we could get a really good and more out there ed edd & eddy.
that is if they don't get too edgy
I liked "Apple and Onion" a lot more, but I don't think it would make for a very exciting show. Both pilots are sorta like Regular Show too and I think there's enough "dudebro" cartoons already.

I agree, at least I could appreciate the sheer sociopathy of Bottom's Butte
Generally however, these pilots are a HUGE step-down from what we got in 2014 and 2015

Yeah but compare them to say, Bender from Futurama, Bender is very sociopathic and there was even an episode where he got empathy. I think it's mainly the ignorance and stupidity of Butte's characters. They don't feel like they are trying to one up everyone else for personal gain, they just don't understand what they are doing is wrong. Unlike characters like Bender, Bender is funny because you know it's completely for personal gain and he actively wants people to suffer.
Neither of these cartoons are for me tbh
I'm just kinda sick of all these situational comedies in cartoons. I'm not saying they're bad but I'm just itching for something else
I wish CN would get a cool sci-fi or fantasy cartoon already

But Cartoon Network hates action cartoons. Didn't the cancellation of three DC action cartoons for a subpar comedy prove that? Sym-bionc Titan? Thundercats Reboot?
On topic…Yeah I think of the two, Apple and Onion is better. I have to echo Spider-Byte's comments on Bottom's Brutes being just events with no rhyme or reason that could be summed up to anything but everyone being idiots. At least Apple and Onion has potential and an actual premise.

There was Twelve Forever last year, and Back to Backspace a year before that
