Why Does Netflix Never Have Good Movies?

I have a smart TV that has Netflix already installed on it to use. Today, I turned it on to see if I can watch the movie District 9. (I don't really care if you like it or not. Personally, I like it but that's not what this thread's about) When I searched for it, however, they didn't have it. They had some really terrible movies like Zombie Beavers, Abduction, Stranded, etc., but they didn't have District 9. Come to think of it, they don't have a lot of good movies. Once I tried showing my mates the movie The Thing because they never saw it, and Netflix didn't have that on it either. We ended up having to go the the rental place downtown to get a disc copy. They don't have 12 Years A Slave, The Revenant, or even those terrible Michael Bay Transformer Movies. Yet they have all these shitty direct-to-DVD SyFy channel productions movies like Big Ass Spider or Area 51. Why is it that Netflix doesn't have good movies?

Edit: Online Netflix has District 9 along with the movie The Thing, so why can't the stream version of Netflix have it?

Because getting good movies on your program is fucking expensive. They have to pay royalties for every movie played on there. Why pay for a few good movies and cartoons when you get a bunch of a shitty movie and cartoons?

Netflix does have good movies. Quite a few MCU films are on there, as well as plenty of other good ones. The problem is your searching for specific movies, which isn't really how it works. I mean you also complained they didn't have specific "terrible" movies you wanted to watch. It could be a case of the things on Netflix aren't for you.

Also different regions get different movies and i think some movies are on there for a limited time.

Netflix's business model isn't to offer you the most/newest movie streaming options, it's to offer you what you can't get anywhere else. I'm so serious, look it up, that's why they only charge $8. If they picked up every new release or blockbuster film, you'd be paying a lot more than that.
