I don't have high hopes for it, but who knows, maybe they'll alter the story and cast enough to get all the crap out of it that plagued the source material.
Never really cared for SAO, but hopefully it doesn't bomb
Never been a fan of Sword Art Online but I've heard it's very mixed because of it's overuse of cliche's considering it comes from a novel and not an actual manga. Personally I would stay away from the show but the people who love the show can enjoy it.
I'm wondering on if it's a full on adaptation or if it's different from the anime.
The real Black Swordman wins again!
Who knows, it might be interesting… If they rewrite the whole show and discard the source material.
I would've prefered Berserk to be adapted tho

I wonder if people are going to complain about white washing in this one as well.
they can change alot of the original story, which would mean they are using it out of name only. I also wonder who this show is for since many anime fans only care about anime and I don't know how big is the SAO fandom. All is left is to see how it turns out.
either way even though i am not an SAO fan I would be better off waiting for this
(although i think it wont turn out as good.)
or just read this
(which turn out to be better than the original story.)
or just wait for new SAO abridge
Does Sao have a sizable fanbase. Cause I usually see a lot of hate for the show, so I find it odd that it's getting a live action adaptation.
Ugh…..
Just…….ugh

Its like a michael bay movie. Everyone that's usually capable of critique hates it.
Eh, though would be interesting to see their take on a new medium.

This is opens the door for better anime to be adapted if this glets popular. And if the adaptions of the better anime get popular…?
Could this lead to anime becoming more mainstream? I mean, even just a little?

I actually wouldn't be surprised if it is significantly different from the source material; I mean the original contains a fair bit of what would be seen as "problematic elements" by certain crowds. It is essentially a harem series after all; people just don't always realise that because the MC gets quite married early on. And are they really going to adapt stuff like the "glop" scene, lol?
SAO was written by a 15 year old and many find its quality to be dubious, which is why I call it "the Eragon of the East" (similar situation there).
It could be better than the original, since I guess there's so much room for improvement. However I am distinctly opposed to the idea of "Americanising" anything, so it would be better to do something that already feels western, such as Berserk or hell, even something multi-national like Muv-Luv.
I don't know anything about SAO but this just screams nope to me.

I'm an ex-watcher of this Animu, and my reaction to this?
Boy, oh boy. Please, for the love of god, I want this adaptation to score around 1% to 10% in the rotten tomatoes.

Well there is a JoJo live action movie based on Stardust Crusaders coming out soon.
>mfw you're not kidding
While I won't mind if this bombs horribly, I so hope it turns out to be good. Mostly because it might make a GoT-esque adaptation of Fire Emblem: Geneology of the Holy War seem more plausible to Nintendo/investors.
Best case scenario is that it gets rewritten enough to actually live up to its premise. Worst case scenario is that it becomes even more popular for all the same stupid reasons as the anime. Most realistic scenario is that only a small subset of SAO's existing fandom watches it, and it struggles to justify its original episode order, much less get renewed. Or it has one mediocre first season and survives to have one or more cringey sequel seasons (…wait a minute…).
Any one of these outcomes, I would be more than happy with! I sense great flamewars and dank memes in our future.

Of all anime they could adapt into a live action tv show has to be the Twilight of the anime.
The more I think about it though…
The more I'm starting to see why they chose SAO. It has a good concept, with mainstream appeal, and a pre-established fanbase full of middle schoolers who don't know any better. As long as the quality is at least the same shit level as the original, it has a chance to really take off. Plus I don't think the action is QUITE as over the top as other anime, so it should transition better into live action.
@Sixth Guy: I'm fairly certain that Rotten Tomato doesn't cover live action shows.
I don't care about the live action adaptation might turned out to be surprisingly good or even worse than the source material. All I care about is will it turned up to be pretty chuunibyou.
