Unpopular Movies You Like

because apparently me liking Last Jedi means I have bad movie taste so now I'm reflecting on all the other movies I like

I'm not talking about critically panned, because I view critical reviews in a different ball park compared to audience or general opinion after a movie has been out for a while and one has formed. Basically, the general public views X movie as Bad, butyouI like X movie.

I actually really like the Friday the 13th 2009 remake. I was legitimately surprised when I found out how loathed it was, because I thought it did a good job of keeping things from the original franchise, as well as changing and adding new things. Granted, the cannon-fodder characters are weak, maybe besides Supernatural actor guy, but honestly, I would call you a liar if you said you do care about the characters in a Friday the 13th movie. Also some top notch kills in this.

I'll also throw in Jennifer's Body (RT says audiences gave it a 34% ouch). The tonal shifts can be pretty bad, and the dialogue can be really corny as well, but I do like the characters, some of the humor does land, and the idea that the monstrous killer is a cheerleader was a cool idea and sexy man eating Megan Fox

oh boi
lets start with
Resident Evil and Resident Evil Apocalypse
both my fav Resident Evil movies

and
the Michael Bay Horror remakes of The Hitcher and Texas Chainssaw Massacre
Both movies probally cant be compared to the originals but als stand alone movies they work.

The first Resident Evil movie was pretty awesome. The laser room scene was great.

I always had a soft spot for the Star wars prequels, especially part 3 Revenge of the Sith for expanding the lore. Also Ewan McGregor as Obi wan and Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor are my favourite characters out of Star Wars hands down.

I tend to actually enjoy Spike Lee's films a bit, though he's not exactly universally hated or anything. aside from some Preachy & Poorly Written Scenes[though the anti-capitalist message I think is a bit more subtle & well done and the scenes where the heist is going on itself, I'm more so talking about the scenes with the kid playing 'generic evil violence game!!!' with the whole scene itself looking like it came out of some early 2000s CNN or Fox New's anchors dream about games instead of actually researching video games & the one with the muslim bank teller] I think 'Inside Man' is up there with one of the best heist films of all time, Dalton Russel[played by Clive Owen]'s whole plan leaves you in fucking awe, the characters aside from him are also just as witty as him and the plot twist[which I won't give away] I'd say is well done.

another film I'd say is the angry birds movie, which is alright and even though I don't have the fucking hateboner for everything vaguely islam related as I did when I first joined the site, I do think it's a decently done film even if I don't really care about it's source material, has good anti-imperialism/anti-islam symbolism if you really believe in the whole 'interpretations' people got about the film, Gnoggin's video on the matter should probably explain it.

Heaven's Gate (1980)

There is nothing wrong at all with this film. It's criticised due to how short of an attention-span the viewer bashing it has (since its length was frequently mentioned in place of actual critique). I've seen the 3 hour and 40 minute cut of it and holy shit, it's great. I may enjoy Spaghetti Westerns more than those poor attempts at historically accurate portrayals. But this feels authentic and doesn't glorify the era like the usual toss you find in the genre.

Kung Pow (2001)

The dumbest parody I've found so far in all the right ways. Memorable scenes, quotes and jokes. The cow fight was shit though, they should've cut or reduced it since the novelty disappears very quickly.

Astro Boy (2009)

It didn't deserve the hate it got. The movie itself isn't top quality, but it's not lazy shit like The Minions Movie or Sing either. Probably the one movie I wish had a sequel so it can have a shot at redeeming itself.

Plughead Rewired: Circuitry Man II (1994)

It's a beautiful mess. Had it not been so obscure it would be regarded as The Room before The Room existed.

Water World

I never really saw the Mad Max films until Fury Road, but I did see water world a few times when I was younger because my mom liked it a bit. It has some of the same aesthetics as the later Mad Max films but set on the ocean.

The Lost World Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III

Jurassic Park and Jurassic World are well liked, but personally, between seeing Jurassic Wold a second time and seeing The Lost World and/or Jurassic Park III again, I would go with the later. As a film Jurassic Wold is better of the sequels. sure, but I really like looking at the older effects in the other two, and the dinosaurs are on screen quite a bit more than in Jurassic Park (which arguably helps to make Jurassic Park better as a film but still).
