If you're trying to access the site normally and encounter a 408 error, the site is either trying to handle too many requests, or is currently down and cannot handle any at all. This can mean one of many things:
- Very unlikely KYM is being flooded with requests from a DDoS or similar attack.
- Unlikely An automatic bot or server is requesting a huge volume of data from KYM, and somehow hasn't been IP-baned yet. These usually don't work, even for statistics collection, so most people stopped bothering years ago.
- Likely The site is experiencing a heavy load of activity, either from some mass upload, or just a large volume of users. This usually passes quickly.
- Most likely KYM is momentarily down, and not handling requests. This occurs pretty much at random, and nobody really gets any warning before it happens. It passes with time, just sit and wait it out.
If you're having persistent 408 errors on KYM, there are online services like Is It Down Right Now? to check if the issue is with the website or your connection. The IRC is an even better alternative, and is most users' go-to place for checking KYM's uptime. Your last resort would be sending a private message over to James, as he can usually fill you in on any issues preventing access to KYM.
