Hi guys, i'm a new user and wanted to know if KYM explicitly condemns or bans users who post racist comments.
If that is true, i'd like to know if the following response, made by AugustDay, qualifies as NC (Not Cool):
https://knowyourmeme.com/comments/3438348
He has posted a generalizing statement, specifically the quote in caps lock and dark font, and apparently also posts a mockery against a specific user that seems to be related to the previous quote.

In theory, yes, but in practice people like this can post whatever shit they want and get off scot free because comment moderation is so lax. This is a problem that's been around for quite a while with little being done about it.
There's actually nothing wrong with having an idea. So no, racism and xenophobia are not banned.
What is banned is advocating actual violence though, so there's that.
Racism? I don't see a single mention of race in that comment, except for a sarcastic quip at the end. And "xenophobia" is one of vaguest terms ever devised. What he did specifically mention was the religion/ideology of Islam, and what he believes it has inspired people to do.
I'm obviously not in charge of interpreting the rules, but I've never seen anyone punished for stating such an opinion, be it about Islam, Christianity, Hinduism or whatever. You are of course allowed to believe that he is stupid and/or despicable for thinking the way he does, and telling him as much with language at least as harsh.

lmao generalizing isn't against the rules, literally everyone in the site comments would be banned. He didn't even say it in an derogatory way. Same re: sarcastic responses.
We have /pol/ memes like Sheeeit and Dindu Nuffin entries. So no, racism in general is not banned.

You do realize the official rules explicitly ban "content that is unwarrantedly racist, sexist and homophobic or transphobic in nature," right? Racism and xenophobia are totally banned here.
Not to mention that users have gotten away with advocating actual violence in the past, but I digress.

This is AugustDay, the same guy who sympathizes with neo-Nazi groups and sincerely believes Jews are in completely in control of governments and large corporations. Of course he's fucking racist. Unless you think he disagrees with "the religion/ideology" of Judaism?

And what exactly is considered unwarranted racism? If I were to allow racism, does that suddenly mean your concerns have no meaning? Who exactly gets to make that call?

If you're not reporting it, that's not really our problem. Sounds like you don't really care that they're there to begin with.

Bold claim. Any proof he's actually broken the rules?
I respect people who moderate the site. However:
I'm not one to point fingers, but KYM should require some more concrete definition on what it considers "bigotry". Either that, or dissolve the "no bigotry" rule completely. Just a thought.
A bigot could just as well post hollow racist memes and try to justify them, but that attempted justification doesn't make him any less racist.
AugustDay seems to have written that phrase in a way that could, in a way, threaten his legitimacy as an account if the "no bigotry" rule is valid. He hasn't stated which kind of islam is the one to "bring nothing but pain and savagery", he just said "islam". That could just well be generalizing and/or an example of prejudice. And even if he hasn't directly stated that "all muslims should be killed", his degradation of the religion seems to be just as qualifiable to being considered "unwarranted".
And what exactly is considered unwarranted racism? If I were to allow racism, does that suddenly mean your concerns have no meaning? Who exactly gets to make that call?
Look at it this way: if unwarranted racism is banned, then what racism is warranted on this site?
The way I interpret it is that "warranted" racism is only what is needed to document racism-related topics, such as Echoes and Dindu Nuffin, and nothing beyond that. I apply the same standard to racism as is applied to gore and pornography – only what is absolutely needed for documentation. If someone posted hardcore porn in the comments without warrant, they'd get a warning or a suspension, and the same thing should apply to racism.

I had assumed you were aware of it and were deliberately not taking action, but with the level of shit that gets posted I honestly can't blame you for inadvertently missing some of it.
That's my bad, I suppose, so I'll give you that one.

Depends on how you interpret the rules. I'm not sure if he's ever outright advocated violence, but he's made racist posts that I personally would argue are banworthy, or at least worth a suspension. Some select posts:
"Until Islam and its practicioners are removed from western nations, we will all bear witness the ever-increasing violence and aggression of a hostile culture gunning for our throats. There are two directions this situation can go: either Islam is removed, or it takes over. " (image it was on was deleted, but you can see the comment in his activity)
"expecting anything less than a bloodbath when those third-worlders bring their savagery with them"
@Simeon
I'd agree, honestly.
@Snickerway
"Unwarranted" is classified as trying to incite violence here. Admins don't want opinions censored, but they also don't want users telling others to kill people and what not.
Be sure to report any that you see.
Also, nothing there that AugustDay has said has actually been against the rules. If he was insulting an actual user or asking that users get violent, then we would have a problem.

I'll respectfully disagree with the admins on this one, but this does at least clear up what the official stance on the matter is. This thread's question is settled.
I'll be on the lookout for any calls for violence; I've seen far too many of them around already.
If you're reporting a user, you PM a mod.
Xenophobia, being an opinion, is not banned by the rules. Same with racism. The rules dictate how you are allowed to express it. Obvious instances of racism (ethnic slurs, etc.) are, but I don't see any of that in the comment. Islam is a religion, not an ethnic group, so you can no more be racist toward a Muslim than you can toward a Christian.
Let me put it plain and simple for any stupid people in this thread:
Racism is an opinion. You can be racist, spout your opinion, and be done.
Bigotry is an opinion. You can be a bigot, spout your opinion, and be done.
Xenophobia is even an opinion. You can be a Xenophobe, spout your opinion, and be done.
All of these things can be done in the absence of being an asshole by harassing other users or encouraging violence or similar things. And as it turns out you don't need racism, bigotry or xenophobia to go and be an asshole by harassing others or encouraging violence. And there are those who are very anti-racist and all that who harass others and are breaking the rules
The problem isn't the opinion, it's how you act about your opinion.
Don't be a harassing bumhole just because you have an opinion. That's really all it is. and if you're going to be a bumhole be like me and take those suspensions with pride, BITCH
That comment is rather tame. I don't see anything wrong with it.
