Do debates work differently in the comments?

I love the debates that go on in the forums, since they seem to reward ideas that are rational rather than purely popular. The comments section usually work the same way, although I've noticed some clear exceptions, especially in anything to do with feminism and the Tumblr image gallery, for images of more-or-less insane "special snowflakes", where overgeneralizations are more frequent, and the ratio of cases of jumping to conclusion versus asking for clarification or making it clear what argument one is arguing against and asking if it is the same argument presented.
I've actually had two cases of this myself in the past few months (which isn't all that bad). The first involved a comment that I believe I unknowingly worded poorly when I tried providing the devil's advocate's perspective to highlight the complexity of the issue. Even though I reclarified my stance more clearly and provided all my sources, I was met with downvotes and no replies (after the inital march of straw men). Heck, even agreeing with some claims that I believed were valid earned me down votes. Eventually, I felt like nobody was listening to what I was actually saying but rather hearing what they wanted to hear, so I got fed up with the whole hedache and deleted my original comment.
Now a similar thing seems to be happening again starting with a reply to this (https://knowyourmeme.com/comments/2746863) comment, though thankfully there is at least some semblance of a debate. And while I can deal with the not exactly polite behavior, I find it vexing that I seem to be getting downvotes while being provided complaints about other parties (such as the media, SJWs, etc) that haven't been demonstrated to be relevant as of yet, rather than replies that involve walking me through my contradictions, glaring flaws in logical thinking, or breaches in debate etiquette, which would actually be useful.
So am I just missing something? Like am I being too proud or stubborn or irrational to notice an objectively illogical or otherwise undesirable pattern or flaw in my reasoning? Am I doing something wrong accidentally? Or do I just need to stop whining and accept things as they are?
Sorry for all the drama and the victim complex; I'm just confused and would like to learn how to avoid this in the future without censoring myself without sufficient justification. And sorry if I'm making the same mistakes in this very post.

Relax, the comments section just sucks if you're looking for reasonable arguments. Ever heard the saying that what people accuse others of most often is what they see in themselves? I believe their love of calling Tumblr an "echo chamber" applies here. Unless I'm missing something, your argument were perfectly logical. Consider the argument won, because when someone's first response to you is "Get out of here" then it seems pretty clear they don't want to hear what you're saying. When they don't want to hear what you're saying, it's because A) they're arrogant jerks, and/or B) they don't have the ability to convince you otherwise. Given you only presented logical arguments, B must be their fault, leaving all likely reasons for saying "get out of here" due to a flaw in themselves.

Okay, thanks. Sorry if it seems like I was fishing for compliments, it's just I occasionally worry that I am unknowingly not being objective as I should, so it's sometimes hard for me to determine if criticism is valid (when it's a simple yes or no rathher than actual words) without a second opinion. Thanks!!

You're welcome. I worry about the same thing sometimes; it seems sometimes like you're speaking what I'm thinking.
