Newsweek has published an inflammatory clickbait article stating how the POW/MIA flag is racist simply because of how it was created during the Vietnam war. Here's a link. Now I'm an avid supporter of military men and women who serve their countries and I find any comment on how POW/MIAs should not be recognized to be exceptionally distasteful. I know if my dad, a veteran of the Iraq war, had gone missing during then it would've devastated me so I could never wish that on another. That's my bias on the matter, so am I wrong in saying this is just an inflammatory newspiece made for clicks or does the author have any semblance of a point?

On another episode of "people got offended on the internet"…
Honestly I don't even really get the connection between this and racism. I mean, sure, it was made in the Vietnam war, but so was a ton of other shit – is that also racist? The flag has nothing to do about race and has no direct history attached to it other than "lol vietnam".
Typical clickbait bullshit. Sigh, it's more depressing to me to see how much many journalism sites have decayed into pure whiny pretentious garbage. Whatever happened to this thing called "the news"?
>Newsweek
Yep, a website dedicated towards clickbait for money. But a bigger offender would be HuffingtonPost. They do not reward authors if they do not get a certain amount of views in the allotted time they post their article. So obviously they will use hot words and hot phrases to rile the people up and click.
This is why we use something like DoNotLink for not rewarding websites for clickbait shit.
I'll say this, when the fucking Facebook comments on your article are calling you out on your bullshit, you've fucked up.
Seriously the reasoning to how it is "racist" is so backwards and convoluted that it boarders on troll logic. But troll logic is played for laughs, this is demeaning, insulting, and pretentious in ain't every sentiance. Quite a feat honestly. Seriously, it's shit like this that proves that Liberal media is just as seceptable to the nonsense applied to Fox News.
Because it's black?

No. It's not that childishly stupid.
But the "reason" still is stupid, unfounded, and vague at that.
From what I can understand the flag is "racist" because of the following reasons:
1. We dared to ask for POWs back (which is at the END of a war silly)
2. The Viet-kong weren't oppressing any other peoples and they were only using methods that they learned from WESTERN imperialists.
3. South Vietnam prisoners were treated similarly.
4. We "exaggerated" the number of POWs by including soldiers whose bodies were never recovered or were simply "missing".
I can't get direct quotes from the article because Newsweek is money grubbing and I've surpassed my "5 free articles for this month". But trust me, the "reasoning" isn't that more coherent than my summary. Don't get it? Join the party.

Rick Perlstein is a horrible human being who insults everyone else by calling himself an author or a scholar. He references himself as a source in using this twisted logic, and white knights the Viet Cong, who themselves committed invasions of other nations, installation of puppet governments, and genocides.
I regret reading this trash, even using the software to make sure newsweek did not get money from me doing so.
I read the article expecting at least some connection to racism. Maybe some bitterness by former POWs toward the "dinks" or something. I read about an old hippie declaring how evil Nixon was, about how kind and benevolent the North Vietnamese were to POWs, and how evil the Pentagon was.
But I didn't see a word about racism. Literally. The word "racism" doesn't even show up in the article. Newsweek just dropped down my rankings a lot. Even if it was an opinion piece.
