Hello all, as you may know pedophiles like to prey on small children and Sex Offenders prey on anyone. They can be anyone or anything imaginable. They can be your next door neighbor, your local congressman or even a police officer. Now what does that have to do with what I'm about to type. Well here's the issue, Pedophiles range from different things such as possessing imagery of children to full on going out of their way to molest children, while Sex Offenders openly molest or rape people. So when they get caught they get put in prison, serve their time and possible seek mental evaluations on what they did; but here's the thing Pedophiles and Sex offenders don't stop. They may say that they won't do it again but they are thinking about it over and over again. Now not to sidetrack from what I'm about to ask but have any of you heard of The Sex offender Shuffle? It's a video that revolves around people acting like sex offenders or Pedophiles and being forced to dance and state their crimes they did.

So here's a question, Do you think that people like those should be forced to do said act as a way for everyone to know their faces and know their crimes? Now most will say its non constitutional and its violating their rights as a citizen but they have to be put out in the public for everyone to see them for their vile acts against their fellow man.

What do yo all think about that idea? Leave a comment on that matter.

…while Sex Offenders openly molest or rape people…

"Sex offender" is a very broad category. It can involve rape and molestation, but, depending on the jurisdiction, it can also include public urination, getting naked on a beach, etc.

…should be forced to do said act as a way for everyone to know their faces and know their crimes?

That video's part of a sketch comedy thing. Sex offenders already have to register their crime and location with state authorities. You can look up your address to see where exactly they live near you (there's eight within 2 miles of my house) and what they were convicted of.

It's kind of pointless to have them do a video--especially since it would have to be updated every time they move--when there's already a highly detailed registry in existence.

What xTSGx said, there are people who have to live with the label of "Sex offender" which most people equate to molestation at the minimum, for nothing more than getting drunk and pissing on the side of the road. It's kind of disgusting really, seeing how that label can pretty much ruin your life. And no matter what you or Dr. House says, people can change. People can reform and learn from past mistakes, former thieves can go clean, gang members clean up their act, drug users get clean, etc. Yet no one extends the same courtesy to reformed sex offenders, is touching a persons butt really that much more heinous than stealing their car, getting their kids addicted to heroin or shooting them in the foot?

I know you are not supposed to sympathize with a criminal but they commit the crime, they go to jail for their crime, they go to therapy to help them remove the urge to do said crime, why are people so hell bent on making sure these people can never forget something they already paid for?

Are you asking me if I think sex offenders should be forced to dance and state their crimes when confronted in public? That's what it seems like you're asking and that sounds a bit crazy tbh. I don't think you can make people wear labels in public no matter what kind of labels they are, we kind of frown upon that kind of thing as a society now.

I don't really see how this will help. This is not a simple topic. When I was on Disqus during the gay marriage fights, pedophelia would crop up once in a blue moon. I studied a bit of the subject on the very off chance the claims had any merit (spoiler alert: they didn't) but I still learned some stuff I didn't expect.

BishopAccountability.org (aka "Documenting the Abuse Crisis in the Roman Catholic Church") released part of a publication (I am unaware of the actual publication, I'm afraid, but it does have citations that one could use to fact-check if they were so inclined) called Typologies of Child Sex Abusers and it details how different groups of people, from the FBI to researchers and so forth, group together sex offenders in different ways based on certain patterns.

One of the most important characteristics that is kept in mind is where an offender lies on the fixated/ regressed spectrum. Fixated offenders are the "classic" offender; they premeditate their crimes, focus on children, and are more likely to get "addicted". Regressed offenders on the other hand are capable of feeling remorse, tend to focus on whoever they can easily overpower, and their behavior can only be traced back as adulthood, rather than adolescence, as is the case of fixated offenders.

Keep in mind, this is a spectrum, not a dichotomy, so they can lie anywhere in the middle of the two ends. And that's just one of the characteristics. There are plenty more, and I think we owe it to the victims of these crimes to take the matter seriously and gain an accurate understanding in order to ensure the best policies that prevent and hopefully treat these behaviors in a just manner. Considering some rapists commit their crimes because a feeling of having no control over their lives, I don't see making them dance would help; if anything, it could just make things worse.

The thing is, Sex Offenders are already required to register (as previously stated in the thread) so having them do some video is pointless.

As for pedophiles who have an attraction to children but are not criminals, I think they should be allowed to keep to themselves. People generally commit crimes because they believe they can get away with it or they don't care about the consequences, not because they think it's essentially the right thing to do or appropriate for all of society. Booing and throwing tomatoes at pedophiles won't suddenly make them like children less.

I'm not really a fan of the whole public sex offender shit since there's a lot of cases where it's either a false claim or a legal fart. Seriously it's a major problem. I even know people personally in my life who are listen as child molesters due to weird circumstances than actual sexual abuse. Seriously guys over 20 – I would NOT hang out with 12-18 year old girls if you can avoid it.

Rape is terrible but lifelong injustice isn't right either. I don't really even see the value in knowing where sex offenders live, I mean it's not like you randomly walk into people's houses. I don't even know any of my neighbors and they're selling heroin, abusing their spouses and children physically, and all sorts of other crazy shit but their histories aren't posted publicly. I think this obsession with rape has to do with cultural views rather than a literal comparison to severity. Think about it – molesting a child often receives much more attention than a child losing their parents to murder. You can't tell me that in most cases the sexual abuse is worse. It's not.
