So we are making it so logged in users are getting served the old UI. There maybe some issues with this as we investigate a cookie validation issue, but we are looking to make the new UI completely optional as long as you have a KYM account.
Hmm, you know, DeviantArt once told me that their new, horrible UI was optional, too. Then they stabbed me in the back and forced it on everyone. Now I barely use DeviantArt anymore. Please, please, please don't make that same mistake. If you really insist on rolling out the new UI, at the very least keep the classic UI around indefinitely, and make it available for everyone, not just logged in members.
I made a userscript that forces the old UI and it seems to work for now…

I hope they don't just brush us off as a bunch of "haters" or "whiners".
We aren't speaking up here just to be contrarian. We like this site enough to speak up about it and want to see it do well. We think that those both with and without accounts are going to dislike the new UI. I can't find anyone here that is defending these changes other than staff.
Doesn't that mean anything to you all? Can you honestly tell us?

It is working fine for me as well, although it makes the loading time noticeably longer, as the new UI loads first. Here's hoping the staff sorts this out by its own soon.
change it back, morons

I wanna see if it can work on mobile as I mostly use Safari
Also, I've already spoken about the new UI design and I have noticed one Major problem. HOW DO YOU FAVORITE AN ENTRY? Like seriously, I don't know where the button for it went…

You don't, apparently.
Of course when I asked, no one answered, but you're a mod, so people are supposed to listen to you.

I made a bookmarklet version for mobile users or people who don't want to install userscripts. This site gives instructions on how to add bookmarklets to Safari mobile.
Create a bookmarklet using the code below and run it whenever you see the new layout.
javascript:var%20cookies=document.cookie.split(%22;%20%22).map(function(a){var%20b=a.indexOf(%22=%22);return{name:a.substr(0,b),value:decodeURIComponent(a.substr(b+1))}}),fp=cookies.filter(function(a){return%22x_disabled_refresh_prod%22===a.name})[0];fp===void%200%26%26(document.cookie=%22x_disabled_refresh_prod=just_a_cookie;path=/%22,window.stop%26%26window.stop(),location.reload());
So, is every new article going to have the new format now? The old one still works for the homepage and trending tab.

I'm wondering if they left it out or forgot it.
So I'm not a web designer or anything like that, but I tried comparing the page source for the same page with both UIs, on Trying Kombucha for the First Time.
When I searched for "Favorite this entry," I was able to find the code for that for the old UI, but there's nothing like that in the new one, "favorite" doesn't show up at all. On the other hand, both versions have code for the bit at the top of the page that shows you how many comments there are.
Also, if any desktop users are logged in but getting the new theme, Deluxxxe17 says to clear cookies for the site then log back in.

So it IS a deliberate choice. Well that's stupid.
This is Eclipse all over again, once again I'll state my opinion that the guy who invented minimalism should be shot in the back of the head.

Funny you're saying that because apparently Adam went for the ususal "X thing bad",dismissing all type of criticism.
-Images trying to call them out for this decision didn't work.
-Mods are powerless.
-Our words don't matter,no matter how constructive they are.
I forgive this website for so many idiotic things, like the lack of an edit button, the glitches, the upvote/comment cooldown, the spam and even a good chunk of the community slowly going insane.
But if I can't even use the website properly with even the most basic aspects, how do you expect people to stick around?
It feels like a process of self destruction, it's ridiculous.
So, putting aside whether or not you're ignoring our complaints on the matter, I'm assuming you guys are more or less finished on the UI overhaul? In that case, do you think you could start working on the problems I've been complaining about since November?
How the hell can this be called an efficient use of space?
Just like Last.fm, it uses the hierarchical model to look pretty but it comes at the cost of functionality.
However, as you see, it displays only 5 videos when it could display 16 if all thumbnails were in equal size.
See how well can the content of the site be compressed?
Another example how you can have more content using less space.
But of course, this advice is likely to get ignored, just like with Deviantart.
And rather than to be conservative and implement changes slowly, they do the sudden user interface change. And no, the gradual introduction of the newer interface contrasting the old one doesn't count.
WTF, why get rid of top comments on the new UI but keep the comment rating system?
There's no point in having a like/dislike system on comments if you are just going to show the first page of comments.
Also, there is no way to go back to a previous page of comments, you can only load the next page, and it isn't an infinite page either.
Is the kym staff trying to phase out comments?

I'm trying to Hanlon's Razor this whole thing, but it's really hard.
Is there an option to revert to the old layout? I don't like this new one on pages
The fact that the new layout has fewer features just makes it objectively worse. I would at least tolerate the new layout if it still had the same features. Does the new layout even have any additional features to make it worth it?

Yea I noticed that as well. for a supposed new and upgraded version it sure seems like a hell of a downgrade.
- removed favorites/ top comments
- the like/dislike button is hard to tell when i liked something (I am very forgetful)
- still no edit button
- The UI itself makes everything basically take up a screen wasting space on a desktop.
And so on. Like seriously I know the mods didnt have anything to do with this but who in the staff OK'd this mess and not even a good beta test with it first.

Not for the users, but I'm sure the lack of comments is making the ad providers very happy.
Do we start the seizing KYM.com for ourselves now or start a great exodus to kill the site forever?
Hypothetically, if I were to want to get myself banned when they finally force the new UI everywhere, should I post loli guro or scat on the staff's user pages? Hypothetically speaking, of course.
Please add a switch to the old/new style! It's very required.

Hypothetically, I'd want to make it a singular image. Also hypothetically, I'd hypothetically do it on Adam's page since he's, hypothetically, a fucking tool.
You hypothetically could just try and find a hypothetical image combining all of them. Just hypothetically saying.

You can start using a non-advertiser friendly pfp, like mine.

I logged in just to express my frustration with the new website look. Fuck modern web design.
I'm not even surprised the new UI is still there. Nor am I angry at staff lying to us twice here. At this point, I expect both. What would surprise me is admins actually listening to their users. It's something you'd think should be common sense, yet it seems so exceedingly rare these days.
I have to admit though, it does confuse me a little that a lot of admins and web devs seem to be disconnected from the internet. You'd think that they'd avoid enforcing a "redesign," considering how often the userbase is dissatisfied with it when it happens and dwindle when they've had enough of it.
Calling the new UI a "redesign" is a massive insult to the designer of the previous one. It almost feels like it's parodying all the other major websites that have done the same thing. This is not a redesign, this is a downgrade. As others have already pointed out, a lot of functions have been removed in favor of more empty space. It's genuinely hard to read and navigate. It takes much longer to load. So whoever designed this UI should consider going back to learning the basics of web development, and whoever let this take the old design's place should never be an administrator of any website ever again.
At least the gallery is intact for now, but it seems like it's a matter of time before it adopts the downgrade as well. As I've said before, if the new UI stays, I'll leave. And I encourage others to do the same. This is a trend that no one should support.
So the devs are working on the cookies fix that is preventing some of you from getting the old version of the site while logged in. I'm hoping it's fixed in the next 24 hours or so, but until then you can manually delete your KYM cookies to have it fixed. There is a little icon to the left of the site address that you can select to find your knowyourmeme.com cookies and remove them.
We may end up having to mass logout everyone to get this fix through without people having to delete their cookies, but I'm seeing if there's another option first.
Deleting cookies is a very temporary fix. I've tried it twice now and both times it switched back to the new UI after a short while.

Same device? I haven't been able to replicate that but I'll relay it. Regardless, hopefully we will have this cookie issue resolved quickly so you won't have to worry about removing them manually.
Same device, yes. Windows 10 desktop, using Firefox.
I stayed logged out to at least try the new layout for awhile and I hate it. I can't stand to look at it for longer then a few minutes, I don't want to read any articles or bother looking at the comments it's so goddamn ugly. Hell it straight up doesn't display some of the comments for no reason when I do go to find them. I'll add onto others in saying that if this is to stay I'm out, it makes browsing this site worse and that's pretty much all I do with how long I've been lurking.
I'm aware this isn't really constructive criticism, just more complaining but christ almighty this is a terrible replacement for something that works fine already.
I'm logged in and I still see the new layout here and there.
The new one doesn't even update the comment section like it supposed to.
I can't stand this shit, I wanted to add the meme "are you tired of being nice?" to favorites because I had an idea for a drawing of that meme, the new interface opened, not only is pretty damn ugly, but I could not find the button to add to favorites.
And now I read this and realized that I been wasting 10 minutes of my life looking for something that is not even there.
Btw, after 10 minutes looking at the new interface, it still looks awful and is extremely awkward to navigate through it, I don't know who designed it but, if you are reading this, I'm sorry man but is just not good, sorry.
Lord DIO wrote:

I think they have deployed a fix for this now. If you're still seeing the new layout while logged in, refresh the page and it should revert to the old layout immediately.
Ok, great, now that the UI isn't being thrown randomly everywhere, could you guys post a test article just for it to be publicly demonstrated so that people can make suggestions or observe without it disrupting the rest of the site experience?
Honestly, I was willing to give the new UI some leeway at first…
But it makes gallery viewing a mess on mobile and I can't find the comments section on a given meme that well. Please keep these in mind when you talk to your web designers.

Historically speaking, vandalizing entries with porn and gore gets you banned faster and achieves some lasting notoriety with the userbase.
I guess this thread really was just to ignore us harder, amazing to see not even a single concern/complaint being addressed, let alone fixed.
(No, letting logged in users choose the old layout is not a fix, you're just kicking the problem down the road.)
