Trying Kombucha for the First Time, also known as Kombucha Girl and Woman Drinking Kombucha, is a reaction video in which TikTok user @brittanyt445 (Brittany Tomlinson) takes a sip of kombucha before having a mixed reaction to the taste of the fermented beverage, appearing to flip-flop between disgust and appreciation.

Origin

On August 6th, 2019, TikTok[1] user @brittanyt445 uploaded a video with the description "Me trying Kombucha for the first time" (shown below). In the video, she smells a can of kombucha and declares "it smells like a public restroom" before taking a sip, then appears to go back and forth on whether it tastes pleasant or foul (shown below).

On August 9th, 2019, Twitter user @PopstarDave[2] reuploaded the video, along with the message "When I tasted cum for the first time" (shown below). Within four days, the tweet gathered upwards of 27.5 million views, 148,000 likes and 34,000 retweets.



On August 11th, Twitter user @DemetriusHarmon posted the video with the caption "the first time i stole from self checkout," gaining over one million views, 81,000 likes and 13,000 retweets within 48 hours (shown below).



On August 12th, Ebaum's World[4] published an article about the video titled "The Tik Tok Reaction Meme You've Been Looking For." The following day, Mashable[3] published an article titled "This woman's face journey after trying kombucha is your newest reaction meme," which highlighted various tweets using the original TikTok as a reaction video.
