Looks like Nintendo might have accidentally leaked one of their own games again, this time a remaster of Metroid: Samus Returns for the Switch

If you go to this page on Nintendo's official website for a Super Metroid themed skin for the Switch you'll notice something very interesting. In one of the photos of the skin on a Switch you'll see a Metroid game playing on the system, but rather than show something like Metroid 1 or Super Metroid, two games on the Nintendo Switch Online service, they instead show a shot from the intro to Metroid: Samus Returns, the 3DS remake of Metroid 2 that came out in mid 2017.

This discovery was actually first made by YouTuber PapaGenos and right now no one is 100% certain if this is another case of Nintendo accidentally leaking an upcoming announcement like what happened with Kirby Fighters 2, or if an intern who was in charge of making a photo mock up grabbed a screenshot from the wrong game, but people were quick to notice the screenshot of Samus Returns looks noticeably much higher resolution than the 3DS original.

One likely scenario is Nintendo is probably planning on announcing a Switch remaster of Samus Returns for an early 2021 release, and this could also be a sign that Nintendo could potentially bring over other 3DS remasters to Switch given the system has no backwards compatibility (if Nintendo does a "Zelda Collection" for the 35th anniversary of Zelda I'm hoping they include both the original N64 versions and remastered 3DS versions of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask).

Samus Returns is a fantastic game, and the last 3DS game i got so seeing it remaster on a more popular console is fine by me. I really enjoyed what that game had to offer, and was really hoping to hear some news from the studio in regards to doing a Metriod Fusion remake which they teased at the end of SR. Oh well, maybe the second wave of interest that will be generated from this port might get the ball rolling again towards getting that Fusion remake. One can dream.

I'll believe a new Metroid Switch game when I actually see it. Shinesparkers basically debunked this.
