Origin

On December 22nd, 2015, the @WSHHFANS^[1] Twitter feed tweeted the edited emoji with the caption "When you on that level of mad when you turn crazy and start laughing 😂" (shown below). Within two years, the tweet received more than 7,700 likes and 4,600 retweets.

Spread

On March 19th, 2016, a version of the image edited with dentist Gino DiGiannantonio’s hair was submitted to a thread on 4chan's /fa/ (fashion) board (shown below, left). On October 29th, Twitter user @kittischnitti^[2] tweeted a warped variation of the emoji (shown below, right).

On September 10th, Redditor Apperyan_ submitted the warped emoji image representing a 1-year-old's reaction to their parent playing peekaboo to /r/me_irl^[4] (shown below, left). Meanwhile, Redditor Fionmcbridge posted the image depicting a 40-year-old mother reacting to a minion meme (shown below, right). Within 24 hours, the post gained over 15,500 points (92% upvoted) and 110 comments on /r/dankmemes.^[3] In the coming days, several posts about the warped variation of the emoji were submitted to /r/MemeEconomy.^[5][6][7]
