6 Months? is a New Rockstars Thumbnail reaction image of the 2018 Venom movie captioned, "6 Months?" Gaining virality together with "What was he cooking?" and "Does he know?" thumbnails from New Rockstars' YouTube channel, the image went viral in early 2023, inspiring edits and redraws as an exploitable meme format.

Origin

On October 15th, 2018, the YouTube^[1] channel New Rockstars uploaded a film theory video titled, "Venom Timeline Explained! WHERE WAS RIOT? (6 Month Trip Breakdown)" The video used an image of Venom, portrayed by actor Tom Hardy in the 2018 Venom movie, as a thumbnail (shown below). The video accumulated over 758,000 views and 13,000 likes in five years.

One of the earliest uses of the thumbnail as a meme was uploaded on February 2nd, 2023, by the X^[2] page @VenomDbd, who explained the lore behind the "6 Months" timeline gap in the 2018 Venom movie. The creator detailed that a fan watch party was held on November 27th, 2022, and @LetThrBeApParap suggested using New Rockstars’s thumbnail as a joke when the "6 Months" time skip scene played. The post amassed roughly 216 likes and 2 retweets in 10 months.

Spread

In the following months of 2023, the image saw a gradual spread as a reaction image on X. For example, on August 17th, 2023, X^[3] user @VenomDbd replied to a post about Marvel’s Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania movie being released 6 months ago, using Venom’s "6 Months" thumbnail (shown below). The post amassed 172 likes and 7 retweets in five months.

On December 12th, 2023, X^[4] user @fogtayger posted a Photoshopped image of Venom paired with the caption "I Fucking Love ‘6 Months’". The post (shown below, left) amassed over 404 likes and 3 retweets in a week. On November 27th, 2023, X^[5] user posted a recaptioned version of the thumbnail with the text "I can’t take it anymore," which amassed over 55 likes and 2 retweets in a month.
