New Rockstars Thumbnail Reaction Images refers to a series of memes taken from the YouTube thumbnails of the media discussion channel New Rockstars. After the What Was He Cooking? thumbnail for their video "THANOS Death Scene in Avengers Endgame: What Was He Cooking? | BQ Bites" with Thanos staring down at his pot went viral, others like Does He Know? and more grew popular on Twitter as reaction images.

Origin

On November 29th, 2020, the YouTube channel New Rockstars posted a video titled "THANOS Death Scene in Avengers Endgame: What Was He Cooking? | BQ Bites."^[1] In the video, the hosts theorize about what Thanos was making to eat in a key scene in Avengers: Endgame. The video gained over 253,000 views in nearly two years (shown below). Hosts Erik and Filup come to the conclusion that Thanos is cooking a stew with a squash-like plant to recover his health after the shock of the Infinity Stones being destroyed.

The video's thumbnail, showing Thanos cooking next to the phrase "WHAT WAS HE COOKING?" in bold yellow letters, later grew into a reaction image on social media (shown below). It was posted to iFunny^[2] on December 1st, 2020.

After the rise of the Thanos cooking template, other New Rockstars thumbnails began to be used as reactions, most notably The Riddler smirking with the caption "DOES HE KNOW?" and Moon Knight with the caption "ALL IN HIS MIND?"

The images are most often used nonsensically or in appropriate situations, for example, the "Does He Know" image might be used at a time when the poster seems to be aware of more than they are letting on. The "What Was He Cooking" image may be used at a time when something doesn't pan out as intended.
