"Bad Romance", the 2009 song by the ostensibly inimitable Lady Gaga, was covered by the the University of Oregon a capella male voice choir in spring 2010 and quickly became viral, the juxtaposition of the male college students' highly competent a capella rendition of the popular song, their quirky but sophisticated choreography and the catchy tune of the original making for a Youtube hit.
In fact, the choir (known as "On the Rocks") had been making videos of their a capella renditions of pop songs for some time before "Bad Romance", and had got in on the act of an earlier YouTube meme, the Rickroll, performing live action a capella Rickrolls in the New York subway and other unlikely locations.
Since its original début in April 2010, "On the Rocks" have performed the song a number of times, and a recording of it is available on iTunes. A more recent, and more polished version of the recording than the original amateur video of the amphitheatre performance, has been released, but, arguably, it lacks the charm of the original (and, oddly for an a cappella group, appears to have an instrumental track).
