A Great Chaos Album Cover Edits refers to a series of edits, including AI-generated imagery, of people and characters in the style of the cover art for Ken Carson's 2023 album A Great Chaos. The edits depict people in characters against a white noise backdrop, with their face and body obscured by shadow while their jewelry, usually diamond grills and necklace, visible against the shadow. An AI image of Donald Trump in this style achieved particular popularity online.

Origin

On October 6th, 2023, American rapper Ken Carson reveled the official cover art for his then-upcoming upcoming album A Great Chaos (shown below).^[1] The art depicts a low-quality close-up of Ken Carson against a white noise backdrop, with Carson's face and body obscured by shadow and only his jewelry being visible. The cover art was designed by Nick Spiders.^[2]

On April 4th, 2024, Instagram^[3] account spongebob posted an image of cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants edited in the style of the cover art. The post (shown below) garnered over 9,100 likes on Instagram in seven months.

Spread

On April 30th, 2024, Instagram^[4] user orbssyai made a collection post of AI-generated images of various people and characters in the style of the album. The post included nine AI images, including A Greater Chaos versions of Venom, Yoda, Mickey Mouse and LeBron James (shown below). The latter image saw further spread online through reposts in the following weeks: for example, on May 26th, 2024, X^[5] user @KmaFr_ posted a presumably fake screenshot of LeBron James' deleted post of the image.

On July 9th and 14th, orbssyai made two more similar Instagram^[6][7] posts of AI-generated images. Notably, the July 9th post, which received over 181,000 likes in four months, included images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump in the style of the A Great Chaos cover (former image shown below).

On July 10th, 2024, X^[8] user @unseenopium posted the two images, captioning the post, "A Great Debate". The post (shown below) received over 1,600 reposts and 22,000 likes in four months.

On November 5th, FaZe Clan founder FaZe Banks used the image an X^[9] post in which he endorsed Donald Trump for the 2024 United States Presidential election and which received over 15,000 reposts and 168,000 likes in three days. Following the post, the image saw a surge in popularity on X, being used in various caption memes.
