FaZe Clan is a collection of eSports competitors and and gamers who compete in games such as Call of Duty, Overwatch, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and more. A collection of YouTubers are also part of the clan and have a large following on the site, where they do skits and work to extend the brand of FaZe, though they do not compete in gaming. Members of the clan identify themselves by placing "FaZe" before their gamer handle.

History

On May 30th, 2010, the YouTube channel FaZe Clan uploaded its first video, gaining over 204,000 views (shown below). Initially, the channel uploaded montages of themselves playing Call of Duty and performing trick shots. The channel was started by users FaZe Housecat, FaZe ClipZ and FaZe Resistance.



The team first competed at the 2012 Winter Major League Gaming Championship playing Call of Duty, finishing in 5th place. In the following years, the group began producing different, more entertainment-focused types of videos and added several more members, including FaZe Banks, FaZe Apex, FaZe Blaziken, FaZe Rug, FaZe Adapt, FaZe Censor, and FaZe Rain. These YouTubers do not compete as part of the clan, but create YouTube content for the purpose of entertaining fans and bringing in revenue (examples shown below).



The most popular member of the FaZe clan is FaZe Rug, who has over 7 million subscribers.[2] Most of the others have between 3 and 5 million subscribers. The FaZe Clan channel has 4.7 million subscribers.[3]

FaZe Banks has over 4.2 million subscribers. He dates Alissa Violet, who is the former ex-girlfriend of Jake Paul.



FaZe Censor has over 2.5 million subscribers and is the boyfriend of Yanet Garcia, notable for being an extremely attractive weather forecaster in Mexico.



The FaZe Clan channel has 4.7 million subscribers.[3]

Faze Banks Barley House Bar Brawl

Faze Banks Barley House Bar Brawl refers to a violent altercation in which YouTubers Ricky “Faze” Banks and Alissa Violet clashed with staff at the Barley House bar in Cleveland, Ohio. After the incident, Banks and Violet accused the bar staff of physically and sexually assaulting them prior to the bar refuting their claims with security camera footage. On November 26th, 2017, Banks tweeted "Some guy just hit Alissa. Watch my Snapchat, please help. Shortly after, Banks tweeted a Snapchat video in which he points at the Barley House bar and claims he was "choked" and that some "guy tried to grab my girlfriend's ass" (shown below).




FaZe Tfue Twitch Ban

In mid-May 2018, Fortnite streamer FaZe Tfue referred to another player as a "coon" during a livestream (shown below). Following the stream, Tfue was given a 30-day ban for using what was interpreted as a racial slur.

On May 17th, Tfue uploaded a video in which he addressed the suspension, claiming the word was not used in a racial context but as a shortened form of "raccoon" in reference to the mask worn by the player's skin (shown below).



The following day, Redditor zasde2 submitted a post about the suspension to /r/LivestreamFail,[4] where it gathered upwards of 2,400 points (94% upvoted) and 1,000 comments within 72 hours. Also on May 18th, Twitter user @Lirik posted a tweet criticizing Twitch for the ban along with a picture of The Coon from South Park (shown below, left). On May 19th, Tfue tweeted that his suspension had been reduced to one week (shown below, right).

On May 20th, Redditor SkrrOnMee posted a clip of an Australian streamer saying the n-word on stream, noting that Twitch took no action against the streamer.[5]
