On June 23rd, 2020, Redditor tacoskins posted the earliest available version of the picture in the /r/pics[1] subreddit (shown below).

Spread

Minutes later, Redditor[2] Finneagan posted the image in the /r/photoshopbattles subreddit, where the post received more than 43,000 points (95% upvoted) and 830 comments in less than one year (examples below).

Later that year, on September 10th, 2020, YouTuber [3] Freaky Attractions posted the video "There‘s A Cursed Animatronic In The Desert – Chuck E Cheese Creepypasta," which featured the photo. The post received more than 360,000 views in less than one year. A commenter called CEC Florida responded to the video, writing, "I actually own this animatronic today. I paid $6,000 for him. He was in Mt. Olive Landfill in Birmingham."

The following year, on February 23rd, 2021, Twitter [4] user @ddoniolvalcroze tweeted, "Abandoned Chuck E. Cheese animatronic found in a landfill." The tweet received more than 175,000 likes and 30,000 retweets in less than three days (shown below).

Several media outlets covered the image, including Newsweek,[5] AV Club[6] and more.
