Addison (Tears of the Kingdom)

Addison is an NPC in 2023's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Throughout Hyrule, players will find Addison attempting to hold up a sign advertising Hudson Construction featuring the company's president, referred to as President Hudson. Players can complete minor physics puzzles to help the sign stand up without Addison holding it. The ubiquity of the character made him an early fan favorite in the days following the game's release.

Origin

In Tears of the Kingdom, released May 12th, 2023, players will frequently encounter Addison, a Hudson Construction employee who adores the company's president, President Hudson. Addison will be holding up signs for Hudson but needs Link to place supports under the sign so it doesn't topple over when he lets go.

Spread

In the first few days since the game's release, Addison became a quick fan favorite, as many people encountered him multiple times within their first few hours of playing. Tech Radar^[1] published an article calling Addison the "best thing" about Tears of the Kingdom, with writer Julian Benson saying, "In a kingdom where an ancient evil is slowly poisoning the world, I’m happy to take a five-minute break to use my priceless magical gauntlet to help an idiot put up a sign."

On social media, users shared jokes, appreciation and tricks for helping Addison. On May 12th, 2023, the day of release, Redditor Againstmead posted a "prison" they'd built for Addison, gaining 40 points in three days on /r/tearsofthekingdom.^[2] On the 13th, user geecron posted a joke about Addison's "support" for President Hudson,^[3] gaining over 110 points in two days (shown below, right).
