The thirst trap trend first emerged in late 2025 and spread into mid-2026 as social media users posted their own versions, usually dancing or twerking, though some subverted the trend by actually showing how to kick a ball correctly. The Kick A Ball Trend primarily spread on TikTok and Instagram Reels and has since spread internationally.

The How To Kick A Soccer Ball Trend first appeared online in November 2025, with the earliest known example being posted to TikTok.

On November 24th, 2025, Nepali American TikToker^[1] only3ms shared the first known instance of the trend under the text caption, "how to kick a soccer ball properly," positing the video as a genuine tutorial and then strutting instead of showing how to kick a ball. The post received over 138,400 views, 20,900 likes and 200 comments in nine months.

Others began recreating the trend over the following days in late November 2025, such as TikTok^[2] user kayy_millzz, who was one of the earliest to add twerking to the prank.

On November 29th, 2026, TikToker^[2] kayy_millzz posted a version with the caption, "how to kick a soccer ball," spinning and twerking with her hands on her head and one leg in the air, garnering over 53,200 likes and 100 comments in roughly nine months.

Over the following months, the Kick A Ball Trend continued spreading across TikTok, appearing on additional platforms like Instagram as it went viral heading into 2026.

For example, on December 1st, 2025, TikToker^[3] jamesdnpng shared their video performing the trend in their house, garnering over 2.9 million likes and 14,800 comments in roughly eight months.

On December 7th, Instagram^[4] user madtekkerz posted a version subverting the trend and actually showing how to kick a soccer ball, shooting it into a goal. The video received over 45,000 likes and 410 comments in eight months.

The trend also spread internationally as it garnered further virality throughout late 2025 and early 2026. For instance, on December 15th, Korean Instagram^[5] user joyyourtype shared a video participating in the trend, garnering over 210 likes in eight months.

On May 12th, TikTok^[8] user squishyymama shared a version with them twerking right at the beginning, garnering roughly 16,300 likes and 90 comments in three months.
