Our Last Line of Defense Will Be Link refers to a series of edits made from the final trailer for the upcoming video game The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In the edits, humorous gameplay clips from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild often showing Link falling and dying in comical ways play after an unnamed character says the line.

Origin

On April 13th, 2023, Nintendo uploaded the third official trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In the trailer, an unnamed character can be heard saying to Princess Zelda, "Our last line of defense will be Link," referring to the protagonist and player character. Following this, the trailer cuts to a series of gameplay clips showing off various features of the title.



On April 14th, YouTuber Arcade Cafe[2] published the first parody, showing a clip of Link riding a comical vehicle from Tears of the Kingdom. The clip gained over 5,200 views (shown below).



Spread

Following the trailer and original edit, numerous other variations were posted to YouTube. On April 22, 2023, YouTube user Blightings[1] uploaded an edit of the trailer, replacing the gameplay segments with various clips from Breath of the Wild involving Link dying or getting hurt. The video gained over 22,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left) On May 3rd, YouTuber Zomrade posted an edit that gained over 62,000 views in two days (shown below, right).
