Andrew Cuomo's Nipple Piercings refers to an image macro of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo speaking during a press conference at the Javits Center in March 2020. The image went viral on Reddit and Twitter after many noticed protrusions around his right nipple under his white shirt speculating that it was a nipple piercing. Many used the hashtag #NippleGate when discussing the photos.

Origin

On March 27th, 2020, Redditor StormPuppies posted a screenshot of Cuomo at the press conference with the caption, "Is it just me or is Cuomo's nipple totally pierced?" to r/Funny^[1] which received over 3,100 points (94% upvoted) in three days (shown below). Redditor SnipeyMcSnipe commented with a link to a Flickr^[2] album from the event with clearer pictures.

On March 30th, 2020, Twitter user @alexjs85^[3] tweeted, "Andrew Cuomo looked disgusting--nipple piercings protruding--in his white shirt before Emergency Room Physicians. Very very disrespectful" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 4,800 likes and 520 retweets in a day. That same day, Facebook^[4] user So Let's Talk About posted the screenshot of Cuomo with the caption, "Governor Nipple Piercing says we in lockdown for another two weeks. How y'all doing? Much like Cuomo's tit jewelry, I haven't quite wrapped my head around what's happening" (shown below, right). The post accumulated over 150 reacts in a day.

On March 31st, many Twitter users began to use the hashtag #NippleGate when discussing the possible piercing. Twitter user @MarkDice^[5] tweeted, "Please tell me Fredo’s brother the Governor of New York doesn’t have his nipples pierced. #NippleGate" (shown below). The tweet gained over 5,400 likes and 1,600 retweets that day. Paper Mag^[6] and Heavy^[7] published articles on the possible pierced nipples.
