About
Avísenme is a viral video of Mexican news anchor Marcos Martinez Soriano who did not notice the open microphones in a live broadcast during which he criticized his fellow coworkers. After the staff told him the show was already "live," the journalist complained saying in Spanish "Avisenme," which translates to "let me know" in English. The video went viral in 2015 and resurfaced in 2020 as an image macro meme and viral TikTok audio over the following years.
Origin
On July 15th, 2015, Marco Martínez Soriano[1] (anchor of the Territorio RCG newscast) took advantage of a commercial break to express his opinion about his colleagues. The TV anchor was unaware that the program had already returned its broadcast and only after the staff told him he was live on-air he mumbled "avísenme" ("let me know" in English). The moment was rapidly shared on YouTube by user victordelbosque6252[2] the same day it aired on television, receiving over 1.7 million views and 8,300 likes in eight years (seen below).
Spread
Avísenme became a prominent image macro meme in the following years as people on social media used to indicate a situation they didn't notice. For instance, the Facebook meme page Memes UAEH[3] shared the TV anchor image with captions about things to do while on vacation time, only to get told it's already over. Posted on October 23rd, 2017, the meme received 541 likes and 62 shares in six years. (seen below)
Years later, the audio of the viral video was then uploaded on TikTok, becoming a prevalent trend in 2019 and the early 2020s. For example, TikToker @jona_orozco[4] pretended to be the news anchor (seen below, left) on April 17th, 2020, garnering over 102,500 plays and 9,100 likes in three years. On July 25th, 2022, TikToker @detodoconisidro[5] posted a video showing the ad Marco Martínez Soriano did mocking the viral meme. The post (seen below, right) received over 12,200 plays and 726 likes in a year.
