About

Barbeque Bacon Burger, also written BBQ Bacon Burger or Barbecue Bacon Burger, refers to a man saying "barbeque bacon burger and a large order of fries and an orange soda with no ice" (among other fast-food orders) in an audio clip from the 2009 video game Left 4 Dead 2 where the character Coach says the line regarding what he wants from "Burger Tank." In late 2009, a YouTube video was created using the audio and started subsequent voiceovers and lip dubs online. In early 2022, a sped-up version of the audio became an original sound on TikTok associated with an interactive emoji filter and challenge.

Origin

On November 17th, 2009, the video game Left 4 Dead 2[1] was released by Valve Corp. for Windows and Xbox 360. Within a cutscene of the game, the character Coach[2] is prompted by the idea of Burger Tank[3] (a fictional fast-food restaurant in the game) to say, "I could go for a BBQ bacon burger, and a large order of fries, and an orange soda with no ice, and a piece of hot apple pie." On April 19th, 2020, the entire audio was uploaded to YouTube by the channel Rapunzel, where over the course of two years, it received roughly 130,100 views (shown below).

Spread

On November 27th, 2009, YouTuber sliferjam posted an animated skit that involved the Coach going through the Burger Tank drive-thru, resulting in an absurd viral video that's the first known use of the audio. Over the course of 13 years, the video received roughly 682,300 views and 4,200 likes (shown below). Additionally, the video falls under the Cheeseburger Apocolypse subculture that was notable on YouTube at that time.

That will be 50 billion dollars. Please pull up at the window.
Burger Tank to the rescue, alright! Hell yeah!

On August 2nd, 2018, YouTuber SodaMazing used the audio in a viral video, showing the SpongeBob character Bubble Bass giving his order to Squidward in the season one episode "Pickles." Over the course of three and a half years, the video received roughly 130,300 views (shown below, left). Additionally, SodaMazing posted the video to Twitter,[4] where it earned roughly 7,500 likes. On March 30th, 2021, YouTuber LaughinStalk posted a Barbeque Bacon Burger video featuring Coach, earning roughly 13,000 views in one year (shown below, right).

On March 4th, 2022, TikToker[5] bhofuu posted a video of a tall, headless man walking, using a sped-up and repeated version of Coach's barbeque bacon burger audio. Over the course of two months, the video received roughly 3.1 million plays and 226,500 likes (shown below, left). Many TikTokers started using the audio for their own shitpost videos, for instance, on April 5th, 2022, TikToker[6] randomiserv1 posted a video that received roughly 2.7 million plays and 470,000 likes in one month (shown below, right).

On April 17th, 2022, TikToker[7] fylertunke posted a video that used the barbeque bacon burger audio as well as the TikTok filter/game TapTap Emoji 2[8] which generated three, random emojis similar to slot machines in casinos. The goal of the video was to get the barbeque, bacon and burger emojis all in one try. Over the course of four weeks, the video received roughly 5.5 million plays and 739,000 likes (shown below, left).

Multiple TikTokers picked up on the trend going into April 2022. This inspired the creator of the TapTap Emoji 2 filter, .janmahavan, to create a version that included only the barbeque, bacon and burger emojis. TikTokers started using this filter towards the end of April. For instance, on April 24th, 2022, TikToker[9] 2kingy1 posted a video in which he actually got the three emojis in a row, earning roughly 5.4 million plays and 662,500 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
