Boogie2988's Girlfriend refers to the 20-year-old, redhead girlfriend of YouTuber Boogie2988, also known as Steven Jay Williams, who he announced was living with him and dating him in July 2023. After a video of them at a waterpark was uploaded to YouTube along with a selfie of the pair posted to Twitter, various reactions and memes surfaced about the couple. Many reactions and memes focused on the couple's large age gap because Boogie2988 was 43 and his girlfriend was 20. Other reactions focused on Incel culture, using Boogie2988's relationship status as a way to prove that anyone could have an attractive girlfriend.

Origin

On July 10th, 2023, Boogie2988 posted a selfie to Twitter^[1] with the caption, "Retweet this if you want to meet my girlfriend in a video soon." In the photo, a woman (seemingly his girlfriend) was blocked out by a Super Mario "? box." The tweet gained over 590 likes in one week. On the next day, July 11th, Boogie2988 posted another tweet^[2] that revealed his girlfriend's face, gaining roughly 2,200 likes in six days (shown below, left). He then posted another tweet^[3] on July 11th, which uncovered her face from the original selfie. The tweet received roughly 3,300 likes in six days (shown below, right).

In the caption of the aforementioned tweet, Boogie2988 claimed that his girlfriend was 20 years old. He also made comments about his appearance versus hers, specifically writing:

My one and only tweet about my age

She’s an adult. She’s 20. I am older

But look at me man. I am fat old and ugly as sin

When an adult woman I get along with wants to give it a shot I am gonna do the smart thing and give it a shot

On the same day, July 11th, 2023, Boogie2988 uploaded a YouTube^[4] video called, "My girlfriend moved in." In the vlog-style video, he and his girlfriend went to a water park. Boogie2988 did not reveal her name due to concern over potential doxxing. The video received roughly 70,700 views and 3,400 likes in six days (shown below).

On July 11th, 2023, various Twitter users reacted to Boogie2988's tweets^[2][3] via replies and quote retweets. For instance, on July 11th, Twitter^[5] user @h3h3producitons tweeted, "Congrats on your 20 year old girlfriend, 48 year old Boogie!" gaining roughly 4,600 likes in six days (shown below, left). On July 12th, 2023, Twitter^[6] user @JunoGamingWatch tweeted, "this is so wadirob coded" in reference to professional Super Smash Bros. player WaDiRob and his younger girlfriend, gaining roughly 1,300 likes in five days (shown below, right).

On July 15th, 2023, Boogie2988 posted another selfie with his girlfriend to Twitter,^[7] showing her sitting in his lap with the caption, "Better or is this creepier?" gaining over 550 likes in two days (shown below, left). The tweet gained viral reactions similar to his precursor tweets, such as a QRT shared by Twitter^[8] user @CannotHaveSex on July 16th, 2023, gaining roughly 4,300 likes in one day (shown below, right).

Although many viral reactions to Boogie2988's relationship were negative, others on Twitter^[9][10] and elsewhere^[11] reacted positively to Boogie2988 having a girlfriend. Many of the positive reactions defended Boogie2988 against others who were condemning his relationship due to the age gap.
